Kline Papers MS 165

Wright State University Department of Special Collections and Archives

Processed by: Kathleen L. Spray August 1987

Introduction The Peter B. Kline Papers were accessioned by Wright State University Archives and Special Collections in 1986. Aeronautical engineer Peter B. Kline collected the papers and books and magazines pertaining to aviation. His large collection of books is also held by the Wright State Archives. Kline specialized in materials about the WWI era and military aircraft, in general, but his collection covers a wide range of aviation subjects. The time span covered by the collection is 1822 to 1986, but the bulk if the materials are concentrated from 1917 to 1986. Contained in over 46 Hollinger boxes, three of which are oversize, the collection fills 20 linear feet. There are no restrictions on the use of these materials. However, due to the many copyrighted items in the collection, consideration of copyrights is the responsibility of the user.

Series Description The Kline Papers are divided into seven series, as follows: Series I: Aircraft Identification Subseries 1 Aircraft by Manufacturer Subseries 2 Racers and Air Races Subseries 3 War Planes and Aerial Warfare Subseries 4 U.S. Aircraft Identifications (mostly military) Subseries 5 Multinational Aircraft (mostly military) Subseries 6 Scrapbooks (includes photographs) Series II: Aircraft Construction (Full size and models) Subseries 1 Large Drawings and Blueprints of Aircraft Subseries 2 Aircraft Components and Accessories/General Pilots Manuals/ Theory of Aerodynamics Subseries 3 Aircraft Colors and Insignia Subseries 4 Scale Models Series III: Aviation History Subseries 1 General Aviation History Subseries 2 Museums, Air Shows, and Aviation Collections Subseries 3 Aviation Book Sellers and Book Reviews Subseries 4 Aviation Organizations and Magazines/ Old Aviation Magazines Subseries 5 Military Squadron, Unit, and Base Histories Subseries 6 People in Aviation Subseries 7 Aviation Stories, Poetry, Cartoons, and Movies Subseries 8 Aeronautical Charts Series IV: Personal Papers Series V: Photographs Subseries 1 Photographic prints (includes some negatives) Subseries 2 Movies and Color slides Series VI: Aviation Art (to be processed) Series VII: File Cards (to be processed) Oversize Material Loc 7, Folder 3
