New sponsors as winter training gets underway

It is that time again; the 2012/13 season is now on the radar and the club is proud to announce the support of new sponsors. Barfoot and Thompson Te Atatu and Vernon Carriers have both made generous contributions to the upcoming season. The sponsorship will allow the senior club to have an extended pre-season as well as new playing and training kit. The sponsorship has ensured pre-season has commenced, with the wider Premier / Reserve squads assembling on the 25th of July. The club has made the decision to move senior winter training to the new Suburbs New Lynn indoor nets. While Suburbs will forever be our local rivals, the facility offers the boys a fresh start and plenty of space for both individual and group training. Chris Reid, committee member and Premier Reserve coach, is genuinely excited about what this new sponsorship could mean for the club. It's going to allow us to bring a sense of professionalism and pride to the field which wouldn't have been possible without the support of Barfoot & Thompson and Vernon Carriers.

Bing grabs club record, trophy

The work of a wicket-keeper often goes unnoticed. They have a job to do every delivery and there really is no place to hide. Last season, Michael Bing made sure his efforts would not be forgotten. Michael had an outstanding 2011/12 season with the gloves. He took 50 catches a new club record - to surpass the old mark of 41 previously held by both Chris Fenner and Stephen Pearson. It is quite an achievement, made all the more impressive by the fact that it was Michaels first season as the clubs Premier keeper. He was later awarded the ACA trophy for dismissals by a wicket-keeper 50 catches / 3 stumpings. It is understood that this is a first for the club. Having written his name into club history last season, Michael will be hoping for another productive season.

Two new coaches appointed

Another change for the season ahead is the appointment of new Head Coach, Nazeem Smith. Nazeem comes with an impressive rsum. Having had success nationally, back in South Africa, and internationally, he will know how to get the best out of the players. He holds South African Elite Level Three coaching certificates in rugby, athletics and cricket.

Nazeem believes in the importance of the three Ds Discipline, Dedication and Determination. He also places emphasis on maintaining a high level of fitness, skill and ability.
With an emphasis on the mental side of the game, both Premier and Premier Reserve sides will be hoping to push for their respective two-day championships. The Premier Reserves will also have their own coach for the first time in a few years. After relegation last season, Chris Reid has been given the task of getting the side back into the Top 8. Last season Chris coached a relatively young Senior A team to a two-day championship and will be hoping for similar success with the Reserves. Best of luck to both Nazeem and Chris. The club would also like to thank Randall Todd for the many years of service he has given to the club, particularly the Premier Squad. His contribution to the club cannot be measured and we hope to see him down at the ground this summer.

Kitchen named in preliminary T20 squad

Anaru Kitchen, Waitakere City batsman, has been named in New Zealands preliminary 30-man squad for the World Twenty20 Championships in Sri Lanka. A squad of 15 is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The tournament runs from the 18th of September to the 7th of October with New Zealand playing Pakistan and Bangladesh in the early stages. It could be a busy time for Anaru with the 2012 edition of the Champions League also starting on the 9th of October in South Africa. The Auckland Aces will, in all likelihood, need to win two qualifying games to progress to the main draw. The club wishes Anaru the best for selection.
