Personnel: We held oral interviews Thursday and Friday at City Hall for the vacant police officer position. A total of 11 candidates interviewed. The background process will now begin with the top 3. The remaining candidates will remain on the official hiring register for the next year. A special thanks to Ann Kolodge, the Advisory Board Members, Sgt. Benko and Detective Holman for their assistance with this process. One of the administrative secretaries was out of the office this week due to illness. As of this time, we dont know how long she may be out. Staff continues with department evaluations. As a reminder, I will out of the office next week while on vacation. Detectives: Armed robbery update: Detectives are following up on a few leads that developed this week; the investigation continues. On Thursday night, detectives arrested an adult male for 2nd Degree Sale of a Controlled Substance. He is currently being held in the Carlton County Jail on related charges. Patrol: On Wednesday officers responded to a 4 car vehicle crash at the intersection of Hwy 33 and the frontage Rd. Despite the damage to
On Thursday, officers were called to the WalMart Store for an individual trying to pay for merchandise with a counterfeit bill. Officers interview the suspect and found an additional 8 bills thought to be counterfeit. The investigation continues. Officers continue to work with other City staff with code enforcement related calls for service. Miscellaneous: DSC notified us that the new emergency notification siren will arrive next week. Arrangements have been made with staff. We continue to work on providing the requested information for the comprehensive law enforcement study. We are now in the process of contacting and facilitating the recommended interviews. The members from Upper Midwest will be in town on Monday August 19th to begin meeting with Police Department staff; interviews will continue on Tuesday with Council and members of the community. City Street Department staff started the installation of the new solar powered digital speed sign. You will find it near the intersection of 14th Street and Tall Pine Lane. It is the second of three signs that are to be installed as part of a three year capital project. The Department may look to add
