have learned the history of the Bible from the time of Adam and Eve to this day. And singing the holy songs is one thing that made me feel happy. The songs such as 'I'm So Happy', 'Love, Love, Love', are songs that I like best. But 5 days passed so quickly. It is too
short a time for us to learn the Bible.

and are still thinking of us and praying
for us and the work we are doing for the

Many of you are probably wondering why you haven't received a newsletter in the past few months. Well, it's not be cause you were dropped from our mailing

Friday night I teach two English classes to help recruit students for the Bible class on Sunday night. I am hoping to have better success with our teaching in this way.

1. Bible Class Students

I have been told by other missionaries that teaching EngUsh and Bible together is not the best way to do it. As soon as the English is discontinued, then everyone (including those who have become Chris tians) will never be seen again. Since we are so new, yet, I am not sure just which
is best, so we are going to try this for a while. We are hoping by doing this, that on Sunday night we will just get those
students who are interested in the Bible

MMuie!
Howdy, y'all! We have just finished the
Lunar New Year season. This is about

the biggest and longest holiday. It lasts anywhere from three days to about 30 days. Most banks and businesses are

closed three days.

As for little grocery shops, markets and such, they are usually closed 3-5 days. You have to buy enough food to last out these days. Kinda have to watch how much you eat, too. Heh, heh! ! You'll eat your self out of food! ! Schools are out
for 30 days or more.

Red paper with gold characters

are

placed over the doors and on the sides of all good Toatists and Buddhists homes.
These door signs are varied because of the different types of people. A business man might put "May there be a lot of merchandise may finances be abun
dant" on his door. Someone else might

If an elderly person has passed away
within the last three years, red paper cannot be used. If a woman has died, yel

low paper is used. If a man had died, green paper is used. These inscriptions might be seen, "With your whole heart remember the things past," "Remember

your parents in your heart like a white

cloud continually floating up". The Chinese are family conscious. You can see this in the door-labels "Thriftimes is the best way to establish a family" or

"Living together as a family can be a special heaven-sent joy". The custom of family worship comes from too-much fa mily conscious. To love and care for your
loved ones is God-ordained, but when the

family comes before the worship of God

it becomes idolatry.

The last night of the official season, you can see children, all shapes and sizes, walking together, holding a small brother or sister by the hand. In the other hand
there will be a stick with a lantern of

some shape, with a lighted candle in it. This night is called 'The Lantern Festival'. Now, many different things are to hap pen on this night. Some girls will pull up onion plants in hopes of getting a good
husband. Some time a girl casts divining blocks and walks in the direction they fall. She waits eagerly for the first word some one speaks and then rushes to a fortune teller to see if it is a lucky word. If it is, she'll be married in this year.

Originally, the lanterns were lit to help light the dark night so people could see

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

May the God of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, keep you safe as He has

Many wonderful things have happened

of our students have become Christians.

How we praise God for His wonderful mercy and you because of your faith and
prayers.

FYom July 11 to 16 we had camp at

Gold Mountain Beach. I was not able to

go this year, but I understand they had a great camp. We had about 40 students this year. There were no public decisions, but many of the students said they had learned much that was helpful to them.

Philip Liu was our all-around handy man, errand boy, and principal (the kids had to be dis ciplined once in a while and Philip is well-respected in this area). The kids all had a great time, Jane, who taught the 10-13 year olds, said that all of her stu dents expressed a desire to become Chris tians some day. The main problem is that their parents will not let them. Please pray for these young people that they will
not lose this desire and some day will have the opportunity to accept Jesus. On August 12-14 I took a trip to the

On August 14 the Reggie Thomas Evangelistic Team arrived in Taipei to hold a one week meeting in Shih Lin. The meeting started on Sunday and went thru Thursday, with 11 decisions 5 baptisms
and 6 rededications. Since they didn't have to leave for Japan until Saturday morn

ing, we asked them to come to our Eng lish Bible Class on Friday night. We cir culated the word among our students and
we had a record attendance of 28 that

night. The singing of the Rostevit Twins, Patty Briggs, Tony and Reggie Thomas was wonderful. The young people are still

talking about them. Reggie's preaching was simple and down to earth concerning
