Year of Faith
What will you do with your treasure?
Vanity, the first reading insists, all things are vanity! But your life doesnt have to be! If, however, you actually were interested in wasting your life, then all you would have to do is commit today that you will only live, serve, work, strive, struggle and achieve for yourself and yourself alone. But why cheat yourself and the world around you by living such a self-indulgent, self-centered, and selfish life? You were made for so much more!

Scripture Readings
18th Sunday in Ordinary Time Eccl 1:2; 2:21-23 Col 3:1-5, 9-11 Lk 12:13-21 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time Wis 18:6-9 Heb 11:1-2,8-19 or 11:1-2, 8-12 Lk 12:32-48 or 12:35-40

Know this: After God, you, yourself, are the greatest gift in your possession! But a gift is only a gift when it is given away. Did you notice Pope Francis last week? When he arrived in Brazil for World Youth Day, he announced at the outset that he did NOT have silver and gold to bring for them. What he did have to give was the saving message and love of Jesus Christ AND himself! And 3 million people decided to meet him at the beach to receive what he had to offer when he showed up there! Your life is a gift which means it was always meant to be generously shared with others! Your faith is also a gift. Share them both! When you give the gift of yourself to others you imitate your Maker! God is not stingy! As his followers, neither must we be! At every Mass we hear the words of Jesus:Take this all of you this is my body given up for YOU! Hes not joking; its for real! There is an old Negro spiritual often sung at funerals but we would do well to live by the spirit of this song BEFORE we die:If I can help somebody as I pass along; if I can cheer somebody with a word or song; if I can show somebody how theyre traveling wrong then my living will not be in vain. If I can do my duty as a good man ought; if I can bring back beauty to a world up wrought; if I can spread loves message as the Master taught, then my living shall not be in vain! Share the treasure of your life today! Father Patrick A Smith 2013
