Sigel, Richard Cormio, Jeff Goldsmith Absent: Jawad Benazzi, Elisabeth Krautscheid Guest: Emily Ann Celano, Harvard student 1) Review of minutes from previous meeting on 11/8/10 Motion to Pass (Fred Laskey) Seconded (Rich Cormio) Motion Passes 2) Discussion of Medford Holiday Event and committees future involvement Event Planners offered MEC a table to participate next year. Consensus was made that we should and would like to be involved. Ideas: Hand out energy efficient light bulbs or low-flow water devices, perhaps sell LED holiday lights at cost? Discussion of LED light decorations and ability to convert more decorations to LED (costs ~$1/bulb) Any such projects should be coordinated through Bill Mahoney at the Voke. *To be discussed and organized at later meetings 3) Discussion of Medford Climate Action Plan (CAP) We need to decide if this document is an internal or external document. The current documented is designed for use within the government, it is not designed as something to be distributed to residents. We are leaning towards an internal document, but this is not decided. Section I - Introduction: Assessing the bulk of introduction and whether the focus should be on causes and affects of global climate change, past legislation on the subject (both nationally and locally), and/or what the MECs involvement should be. - After discussion, the committee agreed that before any final assessment of 2001 CAP the MEC should create a mission statement that shows the direction and priorities of our committee. This mission statement will be the added to the agenda for our next meeting. Sections II-VII: Many topics were discussed. Most related to addressing the statement in 2001 CAP, Municipal Emissions Reduction Target = 20% below 1998 emission levels, as well as addressing statement, Community Emissions Reduction Target = 10% below 1998 emission levels. - Focus will be on gaining an accurate measure of the citys 2010 emission levels in order to judge what has been accomplished and what has not. Also, conduct a re-evaluation of how past emission level figures were gathered and what would be the appropriate unit of measurement. Special consideration of how construction of new schools has effected emissions and creating ideas on how to assess and increase at home energy efficiency. Distribution of documents relating to energy usage will be made available upon request. 4) Discussion of activities of other municipal energy groups. Focus on collaboration with a focus on spearheading events throughout the year. Also, make it a point to become familiar with similar groups in other Massachusetts cities. 5) Disposition and maintenance of past and future web pages relating to the MEC It was agreed that proper use of internet material is important for organization, education, community access, and networking. Ideas will be discussed at future meetings after the completion of the committee mission statement. 6) Review action items - Brett will research and circulate mission statements from other groups for review

- Alicia will contact Kim Lundgren to get more information about how the 1998 emissions levels in the Climate Action Plan were generated. - Rich will draft a letter to the Community Development Office recommending that they design the new garage so that electric charging stations can be easily added in the future. - Alicia will get passwords for the old website The next meeting is MOVED to Monday, January 10, 2011 at 6PM
