Assumptions: 1. The module consists of a coursework worth 50% and an exam worth 50% of the total module mark. 2. The coursework consists of attendance (5% weighting for each of the two terms: Term1 & Term2), a test worth 15%, and the rest of the course mark weighting goes to an assignment submitted once per academic year. 3. The grading criteria adopted is the following: more than 80: A; 70-80: B; 60-70: C; 50-60: D; 40- 50: E; below 40: F. Required: 1. On an excel sheet, show the descriptive statistics of the aggregate module mark and draw a histogram summarising the whole data. You are required to show use of relative and absolute references when calculating cell values. (15 marks) 2. Discuss the correlation between the coursework mark and the exam mark, showing relevant evidence via an appropriate graph and the coefficient correlation value. Remember that writing a lengthy text in Excel requires wrapping the cells you are writing in. (15 marks) 3. Assign a grade for each of the marks given, and show the probability of selecting a student at random: (20 marks)
a. b. c.

his/her module grade will be:

A;

B or C;

D and F

P (Male AND getting C grade for the whole module) P (Female OR getting B grade for the whole module)

4. The marks provided are a sample of the marks of all students enrolled on this module. The module leader claims that the average mark of all students is 55%, with a standard deviation of 5. Test at the 5% and 1% significance level, if the module leaders claim is supported by the sample evidence. Explain the difference between the two confidence intervals. All work out should be available on an Excel sheet. (20 marks) 5. Using the Employee data table below, calculate the following probabilities, using the Excel sheet: (20 marks)

(A) Calculate the following probabilities of a person selected at random: P(X >30,000) P(Female AND 20,000 -30,000) P(Male OR 40,000 - 50,000) P(50,000 - 60,000Female) (B) Probability that a person is selected at random and his/her age will be: less than 36 more than 40 between 45 and 50 Up to how many years of experience do 25% of employees have? (C) Probability that a person is selected at random and he/she will have: more than 3 years of experience less than 5 years of experience between four and seven years of experience five years of experience
