Highlights / Important Developments

Total value of trading at the Commodity Exchanges during the fortnight was Rs. 1, 50,709.60 crores.
The value of trade from 2nd April, 2007 to 14th April, 2007 for the financial year 2007-08 was
Rs. 1, 50,709.60 crores.

The Commission has appointed Shri D.K. Mukhopadhyay and Shri Parikshit Kumar Agrawal as
Independent Directors on the Board of National Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd., Ahmedabad
from 5th April, 2007 up to 31/03/2009.

The figures for 2.4.2007 given in parenthesis in each row in column no 5 to 12. The total volume and value
of trade during the fortnight is given in column 13 and 14 respectively.

Review of Commodities Trade

Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd., Mumbai
During the period from 02.04.2007 to 13.04.2007, 32 commodities were traded at the Exchange. Out of these,
Copper, Gold and Silver had the highest volumes of trade.
Copper
30th April 2007, 29th June 2007 and 31st August 2007 contracts were traded at the Exchange during the
fortnight. The near month contracts (i.e. 30th April 2007) were quoted at its highest at Rs.343.15 per Kg. on 12.04.2007
and at its lowest at Rs.299.65 per Kg. on 02.04.2007 during the fortnight. During the fortnight the total value of trade
was Rs.22970.627Cr. The net open position in the near month contract was at its highest at 11409 MT on 12.04.2007.
Gold
5th April 2007, 5th June 2007, 4th August 2007 and 5th October 2007 contracts were traded at the Exchange
during the fortnight. The near month contract (i.e. 5th June 2007) were quoted at its highest at Rs.9598.00/- per 10 gm
on 10.04.2007 and at its lowest at Rs.9425.00/- on 02.04.2007 during the fortnight. During the fortnight the total value
of traded in all varieties was Rs.18893.287Cr. The net open position in the near month contract was at its highest at
8366 Kg on 13.04.2007.
Silver
5th May 2007, 5th July 2007 and 5th September 2007 contracts were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight.
The near month contract (i.e. 5th May 2007) were quoted at its highest at Rs.20039.00/- per Kg. on 11.04.2007 and at its
lowest at Rs.19130.00/- on 02.04.2007 during the fortnight. During the fortnight the total value of traded in all varieties
was Rs.17419.009Cr. The net open position in the near month contract was at its highest at 351090 Kg. on 12.04.2007.

During the period from 02.04.2007 to 14.04.2007, 30 commodities were traded at the Exchange. Out of these,
Pepper, Jeera, and Chana had the highest volumes of trade.
Pepper
20th April 2007 to 19th October 2007 contracts were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near
month contracts (i.e. 20th April 2006) were quoted at its highest at Rs.16274.00/-per 100 Kg on 12.04.2007 and at its
lowest at Rs.13745.00/- on 03.04.2007 during the fortnight. During the fortnight the total value of trade was
Rs.11667.604Cr. The net open position in the near month contract was at its highest at 5568 MT on 02.04.2007.
Jeera
20th April 2007 to 20th July 2007 contracts were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near month
contracts (i.e. 20th April 2006) were quoted at its highest at Rs.13948.90/-per 100Kg on 13.04.2007 and at its lowest at
Rs.12729.90/- on 04.04.2007 during the fortnight. During the fortnight the total value of trade was Rs.7840.342Cr. The
net open position in the near month contract was at its highest at 12183 MT on 02.04.2007.
Chana
20th April 2007 to 20th September 2007 contracts were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near
month contracts (i.e. 20th April 2007) were quoted at its highest at Rs.2475.00/- per 100 Kg on 05.04.2007 and at its
lowest at Rs.2342.00/- at 03.04.2007 during the fortnight. During the fortnight the total value of trade was
Rs.7313.300Cr. The net open position in the near month contract was at its highest at 34430 MT on 03.04.2007.

During the fortnight ended on 14.4.2007, 9 commodities were traded at the Exchange, out of these, Pepper,
Rubber and Lead had the highest Volumes of trade.
Pepper
April 2007 to September 2007 contracts in Pepper were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near
month contracts (i.e. April 2007) was quoted at its highest at Rs. 15635/- per 100 Kg on 12.4.2007 and lowest at
Rs.13150/- on 4.4.2007. The total value of the contracts traded during the said period was valued Rs.1604.12 Crores.
The net open position in the near month contract was at its highest at 359 MT on 12.4.2007.
Rubber
April 2007 to July 2007 contracts in Rubber were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near month
contracts price (i.e. April 2007) was quoted at its highest at Rs. 9500/- per 100 kg 7.4.2007 and lowest at Rs.8975/- on
14.4.2007. The total value of the contracts traded during the said period was valued at Rs. 176.34/- Crores. The net
open position in the near month contract was highest at 4591 MT on 2.4.2007.
Lead
April 2007 to June 2007 contracts in Lead were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near month
contracts (i.e. April 2007) was quoted at its highest at Rs. 89/- per 1 kg on 9.4.2007 and lowest at Rs.81/- on 2.4.2007.
The total value of the contracts traded during the said period was valued at Rs. 96.46/- Crores. The net open position in
the near month contract was Nil.

Bikaner Commodity Exchange Ltd.

Gaurseed
During the fortnight Gaurseed May 2007contract was traded. The near month contract i.e. May 07 was quoted
at its highest on 14.4.2007 (at Rs. 405.00 per 20 Kg) and lowest on 3.4.2007 (at Rs. 387.00). During the period, the
total value of Gaurseed traded was Rs.23.05 crores. The net open position in the near month contract was highest on
11.4.2007(250Tonnes).
Mustardseed
In Mustard seed there was no trading during the fortnight.
Bombay Commodity Exchange Ltd; Mumbai
During the fortnight castor seed, the near month contract i.e. June 07 at its highest price on 12.4. 2007 at Rs
2235.00 per 100 Kg. and lowest price on 2.4.2007 at Rs. 2123.00. During the period the total value of Castor seed for
the June 07 delivery traded was Rs 1.02 crores. The net open position in the near month contract was nil.
RBD Palmolien
No trading in RBD Palmolien was reported during the fortnight.
First Commodity Exchange Ltd., Kochi
Coconut Oil
April 2007 to July 2007 Coconut Oil hedge contracts were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near
month contract i.e. April 2007 was quoted at its highest on 12.4.2007 (Rs 4750 /-per 100 kg.) and its lowest on 5.4.2007
(Rs. 4475/- per 100 kg.) During the fortnight the total value of trade was Rs. 8.65 corers. The net open position in the
April2007contract was at its highest on 3.4.2007 (202 Tonnes).
The Bullion Association Ltd., Jaipur
The Exchange has not shown any interest in trade in Mustard seed.

Pepper MG1
April 2007 to September 2007 hedge contracts were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near
month contract i.e. April 2007 was quoted at its highest on 12.4.2007 (Rs. 15950 /- per 100 kg.) and its lowest on
2.4.2007 (Rs. 13700/-per 100 kg.) During the fortnight the total value of trade was Rs. 2.67 corers. The net open
position in the April 2007 contract was nil during the fortnight.
E-Sugar India Ltd., Mumbai
Sugar-M
May 2007 Sugar-M hedge contract was traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. There was no trading from
