The Cloud is Suddenly Everywhere What is Cloud Computing? An analogy: think of electricity services You simply plug into a vast electrical grid managed by experts to get a low cost, reliable power supply available to you with much greater efficiency than you could generate on your own. Power is a utility service available to you on-demand and you pay only for what you use.

What is Cloud Computing? Cloud Computing is also a utility service - giving you access to technology resources managed by experts and available on-demand. You simply access these services over the internet, with no up-front costs and you pay only for the resources you use.

Attributes of Cloud Computing No capital expenditure Pay as you go and pay only for what you use True elastic capacity; Scale up and down Improves time to market You get to focus your engineering resources on what differentiates you vs. managing the undifferentiated infrastructure resources

Cloud Terminology: Paas Platform as a Service facilitates deployment of applications without cost and complexity. SaaS Software as a Service eliminates the need to install and run the application on customers own computer. IaaS Infrastructure as a Service evolution of virtual private server offerings. Evolution of Computing with Network: Network Computing: Client/Server, separation of functionalities Cluster Computing: Tightly coupled computing resources (CPU, Storage, Data, etc Usually connected within a LAN), managed as a single resource. Grid Computing: Resource sharing across several domains. Global Resource sharing Utility Computing: Dont buy computers, lease computing Cloud Computing: Service and data are in the cloud, accessible with any device connected to the cloud with a browser. Ex: salesforce, google, amazon What is Cloud Computing? It is a network which uses virtualisation technologies to computing applications and data to be flexibly provided from a pool of hardware resources. With this there is no longer point-to-point connection between the user and the computing infrastructure. Data and applications are not held on one PC or one Server or one network; they are held on a disparate conglomeration of computing services.

Deployment Modes: Private cloud: The infra for implementing the cloud is controlled completely by enterprise.

Public Cloud: In this external organizations provide the infrastructure and management required to implement the cloud. Hybrid Cloud: Both public and private clouds into a unified solution. Components: Client: A cloud client consist of computer hardware and/or computer software which relies on the cloud for application delivery. Service: A cloud service such as web service is a software system designed to support interoperable machine to machine interaction over a network. Application: A cloud application purchases the cloud in software architecture often eliminating the need to install and run the application on customers own computer. Platform: A cloud platform such as platform as service, the delivery of a computing platform and fix solution stack as service, facilitates deployment of application. Storage: Cloud Storage involves the delivery of data storage as a service including database as service. Infrastructure: It is the delivery of computer infrastructure typically a platform virtualization environment as service.
