t gives us immense pleasure to inform that we achieved our target of touching 36 cities and around 30,000 investors through BOS 2010. The show achieved great success because of its concept, brands' support, team effort and its overwhelming acceptance in each city .

According to you, what are the major achievements for BOS 2010? Which region has produced the best result for the show?
BOS 2010 has brought a major change in the investors' mindset by educating them about the various formats of franchising. The show has achieved great acceptance in the industry with a confidence to deliver best opportunities available in the market. The unique concept of organising oneday show in different cities in one week was a challenge, but on the other hand, it was an opportunity to explore different options available in a particular state. usiness Opportunities Show (BOS), an initiative of Franchise India Holdings Limited (FIHL), has successfully completed its journey in 36 cities and touched more than one lakh prospective entrepreneurs from different parts of the country . BOS was initiated in March 2010, with an objective to create a knowledge platform for the investors and provide them an opportunity to reach out to various business options. BOS is a show that conducts conferences, exhibitions, one-to-one meetings and discussions, providing a direction towards the unidentified business potential available in B & C class cities. It is a show meant for the regions where the brand-reach is still developing and an ambition of entrepreneurship is sensed. BOS is a platform created by Franchise India and Indian

Franchise Association to fulfill the needs of today's investor. The show has made a remarkable impact on the lives of the aspirants and brands that have successfully opened their franchisees within these cities. BOS has received immense popularity among the visitors and companies during its eight-month journey and now it is looking forward to expand its reach in the untouched regions in 2011. The show has got major acceptance in media, and has been covered in almost all leading publications and channels, highlighting the achievements of the show in different cities. The efforts put in by BOS in bringing together brands from all over India and placing them under one roof have made the event a great success in the regions where such opportunities were never explored.

STRENGTHS OF BOS

Concept: BOS is a unique concept introduced for the smaller cities in various states of India. At survey level, BOS first identifies three to four potential cities in a particular state and these cities become the venue for the show. A week long show presents enormous business opportunities from various brands over a privately held round table with each brand. The show encompasses seminars, one-to- one meetings, site visits and discussions where investors get chance to gain knowledge on small business growth and its benefits. One-to-One Meetings: BOS provides a one-to-one interaction opportunity to the franchisors and franchisees, which allows them to discuss and understand the business plan of each other. This session is the greatest strength of the show where the investors get to know about the business opportunities a brand is offering and franchisors can explore the potential investors for their deals.

BOS 2010 created a base for the budding opportunities to reach the right investor and further moving a step ahead next year we would try to channelize the route of franchising by organizing various knowledge platforms every month.

For us every city responded well and the show has live up to our expectations. Majorly , the growth was seen in northern cities where the brands acceptance is more and people are more open to try different business options. week was a major challenge, where involving the brands participation in different cities was a key task to achieve. The concept, research behind every city , strategic campaign and team work were the absolute strength of the show.

How much contribution has been made by BOS in building up the small business sector in B & C level cities?
BOS has created its own value in these cities by what it delivered. We tried creating a knowledge path for the visitors to be more accustomed to small business sector. BOS not only reached out to the untouched cities but also educated people about the SME sector and provided a series of opportunities from various brands existing in the industry .

What all new strategies will be implemented for the new series in 2011?
BOS in its new series will have many more to rejoice for the franchisors and business investors; more activities, more features, more attractions and a new face altogether. We will be using the same concept and presentation but with value additions. We are trying to include different platforms like expertise seminars, elaborated brand participations, pre-fixed meetings and exhaustive marketing campaigns.

Brand Recognition: BOS has established the brand recognition in cities where their visibility was nil earlier, and created a space for the brand in those markets.

Share the experience of 36 cities highlighting the most responsive cities?


Thirty-six cities and 30,000 investors was a good start for us but the expectation level has also grown high. Within these thirty-six cities, we tried covering the major cities from every zone where we have got mixed response from different phases; so, it would be difficult to highlight some as almost every city presented a new opportunity for us to grow and come back again.

What were the difficulties and strengths of the show?


Organising a concept of multi city show covering four to five cities back to back in a

Potential and serious enquiries have always been a major inflow during the show and help each brand to appoint prospective franchisees in the city.

Is your business franchisable?


Almost every business can be franchised and can enjoy its presence everywhere. But still there are certain basic characteristics that must be met by the business organisations to take on the franchise route.

CREDIBILITY: Your business has to be credible. Credible in the sense that you should have an experienced management, your company must hold a good track record and a proven business philosophy . Acclamation from your customers or the local press is also necessary to move ahead in franchising. UNIQUENESS:For expanding a business through franchising, you should come up with something refreshing and unique. There are already numbers of players in the market, so you have to be careful in using the USP of your business to gain competitive

advantage. Your business should be marketable as a business opportunity . TEACHABLE: Yes!! Your business philosophy should be teachable. It means you should be able to make your franchisees learn the same tactics and techniques in a limited period of time to operate successful business. It is possible only if you have well documented operating procedures. PROFITABLE: It is the most important aspect of a franchise business. If your business cannot generate 15- 20 per cent return on investment after deducing the monthly overheads and royalties, then it will be difficult to keep your franchisees with you on a long term relations. If your business meets the above criteria, then you can expand through franchising. Before finalising your decision of taking a franchise route, it is very important to develop a sound business plan. This plan must incorporate the vital issues like the tactics to speed up growth, financial analysis in terms of franchise fees and royalty , territorial development, training and support services. Importantly , make sure that you can invest enough time and inclination to support your franchisees. The list does not get over here. Once you are done with the business plan, your next important concern

is the franchise agreement. You have to prepare a legal document, which includes the whole data regarding the franchise business, viz., the franchise fees, royalty , monthly overheads, training and support, exclusive rights given to the territorial franchisee, return on investment, break-even period, property details, franchise term, its renewing ability and so on. The decisions made regarding these complex issues will ultimately dictate your success as a franchisor. So, if you also have a business which is doing perfectly well for quite a long time, and now you also think of expanding its reach across India, then franchising is the perfect option for you. It is like finding a way to expand and maintain the set standards of your business simultaneously . Franchising is the most suitable way to continue to gain brand recognition and market dominance. To summarise, you can say that a business that has the potential to be sold as a franchise opportunity usually have the characteristics of an established business, having unique selling preposition, easily replicable, and the promise of an adequate return on the investment. If your business has all these characteristics then do not waste time, go ahead and cover the nation.
