UNIVERSITY OF PORT ELIZABETH DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

GENERAL: 1. 2. 3. Duration of lecture periods: Undergraduate 75 min; Honours 1 h. Duration of practical sessions: 3 h. General requirement for Duly Performed (DP) certificate: Two tests per module must be written and where applicable, the practical component of a module must be satisfactorily completed.

LINKED MODULES: For assessment purposes, the undergraduate modules offered by the Department are classified as linked modules. Such modules are linked through their relevant main module code. The pass mark for modules in the Department is 50%. However, linked modules may be passed passed on link even though a mark of less than 50% is obtained, provided that the aggregate mark for the relevant main module (calculated as a weighted average of the linked module marks) is at least 50%, and provided that at least a sub-minimum mark of 40% is achieved for the linked modules. A fail result achieved in a linked module will be amended to pass on link if the above conditions are met.
