Abortion is no easy matter for the average man, but for one person to decide what is best regarding the matter is blatantly wrong. The issue over whether abortion is right or wrong has spanned for several years. Some people are against the idea of killing life, some do not believe there is life to be killed, and some could care very less. However, the group of people that tend to believe that abortion is wrong, fight against all of the pro-choice or pro-abortion laws that take hold in our current society. More specifically, a retired Catholic archbishop by the name of Daniel Kucera, explains in his article, Abortion Harms American Society, that the mind sets and the ways society handles abortion is slowly destroying the morality of America. Considering that his view could hold true for many of todays people, it is ultimately wrong to say abortion is evil since it might harm the moral fabric of society. Of course, the author must have had a reason for writing his essay concerning abortion. Kucera starts right off the bat calling abortion a sad fact, but his essay addresses an even more alarming issue, that abortion is degrading the morality of society. He feels that partly because of the way abortion is handled, people are losing their sense of responsibility and that individualism is being abused. Using this as his core argument he goes over several points in which this issue is displayed such as societys reliance on government or the desire to find an easy way out of everyday issues. For instance, Kucera emphasizes how individualism at its extreme can be a severe liability. He addresses the fact that individualism can often be mixed up with self-centeredness

which ends up creating a blurry line. This self-centeredness can make people consider what is at stake when having a child, such as their career or leisure time. In a sense, Kucera feels that decisions of abortion stems from this self-centeredness because a good percentage of abortions are done out of convenience and not rape or incest. Kucera also raises the issue of the decreasing sense of responsibility. He believes that abortion is symbol of this decreasing sense of responsibility because people feel as if they can do what they want with their sex lives. Overall, Kucera has the idea that people will have a reckless sex life and just simply resort to the option of abortion so they can take the easy way out and disregard any sense of responsibility. Another strong point Daniel Kucera discusses is the view that abortion makes the value of life worse. Kuceras essay describes how the reasons behind abortion result in the decreased value of life in society by noting how some families will not bring a child into a life because their financial standing may not give the child a great life thus comparing his life to material success. Then there is the argument of what is to be considered human life and that deciding the qualifications for life is detrimental to life and societys future. Overall, Daniel Kucera does make valid points concerning on how abortion affects the morality of todays society. His view that the self-centeredness brought about by individualism causes abortions for the wrong reasons holds true for only a group of people. However, just because some people decide to have an abortion out of convenience does not mean that every single human out there will do it for the same reason meaning abortion cannot be condemned on this fact alone. Then he brings up the decreasing sense of responsibility, which once again only holds true for some people. Lastly, he describes that abortion devalues life which happens to be more of an opinion than fact. To say that people are devaluing life just because they resort to

abortion or because people argue over what is considered life is completely ignoring why all of these problems come up in the first place. It is as if Kucera believes people are consciously devaluing life on purpose even when so many people fear death. Essentially, Kuceras points only strike specific situations and ideals but do not look at the whole picture. To be honest, abortion does not hurt society in least bit. Many people will fight over the issue of what is considered life and if they really have the right to just cut it down. Well, they should have the power to cut away what they bring into the world if it cant think for itself. An embryo cannot think for itself, it cannot help society in anyway in its form, and thus should not be considered life. Then there are the several reasons why people would resort to abortions which unless they are completely disgusting should be fine and not do anything to societys morality. Now some people may not be willing to think about the life that could be given birth when they are preoccupied with their own lives. It is completely acceptable for a person to choose to go through an abortion if the couple does not feel as if they are ready to start thinking about another life. That may seem harsh, but in todays status of life where the majorities are struggling, millions more would struggle if they were forced to live with a child they did not wish to have. So yes, it should be okay for a person to abort if they worried about their own life in the future because the world is simply too harsh to carelessly bring a child into. If that comes off as self-centeredness and harmful to the moral fabric, the world would be much more chaotic than it is now. Then there is the issue of responsibility. To express abortion as a way to relieve responsibility is not totally untrue. However, saying that it is so harmful to the moral fabric of society is exaggerating. People should not have to take responsibility if an accident happens or if

they are extremely incapable of handling a baby. It is not as if people want to give birth to a child they do not want, it just happens that a pregnancy occurs for some of these people. In reality, the situation is what really matters. Just because a couple can take care of a baby doesnt mean they have to, they did not live their whole lives for another being that doesnt even exist, they lived it for themselves. Lastly, there is the problem of whether life is being degraded by abortion. In most cases, life is not being insulted at all because it is up to the persons belief on whether an embryo is life or not. If they dont consider an embryo a life, then the only problem is the fact that the people who believe an embryo is life are unhappy. However, these people have no right to shove their views on to other people. As long as people do not contradict their own beliefs when it comes to abortions and as long as they dont fool around with the qualification of what is life, there is no degradation to the value of life. Overall, all the disagreements over how abortion is handled in America is hilariously serious. The fact that a huge mass of Americas population get into an argument about a problem that is really only between a mother and her own body, really brings to light just how everyone in interfering in a very personal situation. People may have their views, some may have extremely strong views, but that is no reason to have to impose their views on other people. Abortion may not be as entirely simple as it should be, but it should not be a problem America has to deal with anymore.
