Q1. After initial reluctance, 95% of large companies in Europe and the USA now believe that sustainable development is important (Little, undated). The World Economic Forum, in their modest words the worlds leadership team, discusses sustainability, although giving it the WEF spin (WEF Forum, 2001). Over 150 of the worlds major companies in mining, oil and gas, autos, chemicals, logging, banking and finance, cement, electricity generation, drugs and bio-technology are members of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD, 2001). The Real World Coalition argues that the the path of globalisation. . . will not succeed in eliminating poverty; it will increase it (Jacobs, 1996, p. 51). Companies who are members of WBCSD have been in conflict with trade unions and human rights activists. Discuss. The combination of socio-economic concerns and environmental concerns was guaranteed to be a contest field as the long standing debates within both socio economics and environmentalism flowed into sustainable development with the added debate over the

relation between socio-economic and environmental issues. Why? Give your views on the interdependence and sustainable development with suitable examples. Roll No. 2,12,22,32,42,52,62,72,82,92,102,112,122,132,142,152,162,172 should answer Q2 along with the compulsory question Q3. In June 1998, in North America, the Enforcement Working Group delivered an initial report to Council on Environmental Management Systems and Compliance. In its preliminary findings, the report noted that while EMSs are a useful tool to assist an organization in achieving improved compliance and overall performance, they do not per se guarantee compliance or improved environmental performance. Are you in favor of such a move of the group? Substantiate. Roll No. 3,13,23,33,43,53,63,73,83,93,103,113,123,133,143,153,163,173 should answer Q3 along with the compulsory question Q4. The traditional methods to determine the current market value of CO2 are Carbontrading Price and Tax Price. The former is based on the "Cap-and-Trade" law. Cap is the maximum amount of CO2 that can be emitted without paying a fine; within this cap, companies receive emission allowances that they can sell to or buy from one another if needed (trade). The second method is a fee on the carbon content of fuels or on the estimated CO2 emitted in the fuel combustion process. Theoretically speaking (i.e., in a perfect-information system), the results obtained by the two techniques are the same. In the light of above information and the gaps, which method you advice for an effective control of CO2 emissions? Roll No. 4,14,24,34,44,54,64,74,84,94,104,114,124,134,144,154,164,174 should answer Q4 along with the compulsory question Q5. A land designated under the Urban planning scheme, for a public park was leased by the state government for a nursing home. The Government justifying its act, by stating that the locality did not have a nursing home and it was in public interest that the said lease was given.
