WELCOME
Congratulations on purchasing VZAccess Manager - the most popular data connectivity solution for wireless Internet access. This Users Guide will provide information needed to get started with VZAccess Manager. For additional assistance with using VZAccess Manager, the installation process and/or the setup process, launch VZAccess Manager and select VZAccess Manager Help from the Help menu.

VZAccess Manager works with your Mac and data PC-Card, ExpressCard, wireless phone or USB modem to provide wireless Internet connectivity. VZAccess Manager can also be used optionally to connect to Wi-Fi networks when available.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
In order to set up VZAccess Manager, you will need the following minimum system requirements: PowerMac G3 or newer Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later Supported wireless device PowerBook with PC Card slot (for use with PC Card) MacBook Pro with ExpressCard/34 slot (for use with ExpressCard) Built-in USB port (for use with wireless phone or USB modem) Built-in Bluetooth (for use with Bluetooth capable wireless phone) Verizon Wireless wireless data service

SETUP INSTRUCTIONS
After inserting the CD, the VZAccess Manager window will appear. If the window does not automatically open, double-click the CD icon on your desktop. If you received VZAccess Manager in electronic format, double-click the VZAccess Manager disk image ("DMG"). To begin installation of VZAccess Manager double-click the VZAccess Manager icon to launch the installer and begin the setup process. Setting up VZAccess Manager takes just a few minutes. It consists of the following steps: Step 1: Install VZAccess Manager Step 2: Complete the VZAccess Manager Setup Assistant. Step 3: Test your wireless device to verify it is working properly. Thats it! Once set-up is completed, you can connect to the Internet immediately. Below are detailed steps that outline the Installation and Setup processes:

STEP 1: INSTALL VZACCESS MANAGER


Note that the VZAccess Manager installer will require a Restart when complete. 1. Turn on your Mac and quit all running applications. 2. Insert the CD-ROM into your drive. 3. The VZAccess Manager CD - If the VZAccess Manager CD window does not open automatically double-click the VZAccess Manager CD. 4. Launch the VZAccess Manager installer - Double-click the VZAccess Manager icon on the root of the CD to launch the installer. 5. The Introduction Panel The first panel of the installer is the Introduction panel. After reading the text in the Welcome message, click Continue. 6. The VZAccess Manager Read Me In this step you will be presented with important information such as system requirements, notes about the installation process, and other useful information. After reading this information, click Continue to proceed. You can also click the Print button to print this information or click Save... to save this information to a file on your drive. 7. Select Destination In this step you are asked to select the target Mac OS X volume to install to. If you have only one Mac OS X volume it will be selected automatically. Click Continue to proceed. 8. Installation Type The only installation type available for VZAccess Manager is Easy Install. This is selected by default. Click the Install button to begin installing to your volume. 9. Installing During this step the files and components that make up the VZAccess Manager product are being installed to the appropriate locations on your Mac OS X volume. Click Restart to complete the installation process. Once the VZAccess Manager installer has completed, you are ready to begin the setup process for VZAccess Manager. To begin, navigate to the Applications folder on the root of your hard drive and double-click the VZAccess Manager application.

STEP 2: RUN THE VZACCESS MANAGER SETUP ASSISTANT


The VZAccess Manager will launch automatically on startup after installing VZAccess Manager. On first-launch of VZAccess Manager the Setup Assistant will automatically run. Below is an overview of the steps of the Setup Assistant. If you are not familiar with the correct method for

connecting your wireless device to your Mac, please consult the documentation that came with your device. Setup VZAccess Manager for PC Card, ExpressCard, or USB modem Launch VZAccess Manager to begin the Setup Assistant. A Check for Updates button is provided in the first panel of the Setup Assistant. Click this button to check for updates to the VZAccess Manager product. Click Continue to proceed with the setup process. 1. Select Your Hardware This step allows you to select the hardware type to setup. Select the appropriate setting based on your hardware. Below is a brief description of these types. Once you have made the correct selection, click Continue to proceed. Detect WWAN device only - Select this option if you are using a PC Card, ExpressCard, or USB modem. Detect Airport adapter only - Select this option if you are using a built-in Apple supplied Airport card. Detect both Airport and WWAN Devices - Select this option if you have a combination of Airport and PC Card, ExpressCard, or USB modem.

2. Detect Device During this step you will need to insert your PC Card, ExpressCard, or USB modem into your Macs slot. Click Continue to proceed. 3. Communicating with your Device During this step, the VZAccess Manager will attempt to query your PC Card, ExpressCard, USB modem. Once complete, "Detection Successful" will be displayed. Click Continue to proceed 4. Setup Wireless Account During this step VZAccess Manager will setup an account on your machine for use with your wireless device. You will be prompted for an OS X Administrator username and password. Once the account has been created on your Mac the text "Account creation successful" will be displayed. Click Continue to proceed. 5. Setup Wireless Account Complete This step in the setup process is to acknowledge that your wireless account setup is complete. A Test Wireless Device button has been provided to allow you to verify that VZAccess Manager can communicate with your device. Clicking this button will display a window that displays information about your wireless device. Click Continue to proceed. 6. Setup Complete The setup process for VZAccess Manager is now complete. Click the Close button to exit the Setup Assistant and begin using VZAccess Manager

STEP 3: TEST YOUR WIRELESS DEVICE


An optional step after completing the VZAccess Manager setup process is to test your WWAN device. This step is not required to begin using VZAccess Manager. To test your wireless device: 1. Select Test WWAN Device from the Options menu. The Test Results drop-down sheet displays. 2. Click Retest as needed to repeat the test if necessary. 3. Click Close to conclude the test.

CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET


To connect to the Internet: 1. Connect your wireless device to your Mac and verify that it is powered on. 2. Launch VZAccess Manager (if not already running) by double-clicking the VZAccess Manager icon in your Applications folder. 3. Double-click "NationalAccess - BroadbandAccess" or select this network and then single-click the Connect button. 4. At this point you can launch your web browser and connect to any public web site.

ACTIVATING YOUR CARD FOR THE FIRST TIME


The application will automatically detect if the card is activated. If you have not already signed- up for service on your card, when you attempt to connect to the Internet for the first time you will be directed to the Verizon Wireless activation site. You will be presented with options to activate a two-year contract or to sign-up for daily session service (no commitment required). Select your activation preference and follow the online screens to complete the order. If you are outside the BroadbandAccess service area, or cannot complete the activation online, you will be presented with a phone number to call for assistance and completion of your order. If you activate a daily session, you will be returned to the Verizon Wireless activation site the next time you attempt to access the network after your session has expired. The same activation options will be presented.

1. Important: Once your account is set up on the Verizon Wireless website, please click the Quit button to ensure your account is set up properly. If you wish to begin using the service please wait approximately 10 minutes for the account to be validated, then click Connect again (or simply double-click the network name). 2. To purchase additional connectivity, click the Get Access button. You will be returned to the Verizon Wireless activation site. Please consult the VZAccess Manager Help for detailed information on the features of the VZAccess Manager product. Select VZAccess Manager Help from the Help menu.

Help is always available via VZAccess Managers on-screen help, simply Select VZAccess Manager Help from the Help menu. You can also access help by clicking the Support button in the VZAccess Manager button bar.
