BATCH MANAGEMENT

In some business materials are processed batch wise, that are mandatory also. When the
materials are processed in batches then defectives can be identified as well as materials
can be dispatched according to the expiration date. If materials are processed in batches
LIFO & FIFO can be used extensively & comprehensively.

When the materials are processed in batches that should be process from production-
inventory, inventory – sales in batches only. In SAP materials can be processed in batch
management by using CONDITION TECHNIQUE concept by which relevant batch
number can be determined automatically for line item in the sales order.
Ex: Pharmaceuticals, FMCG goods.

Batch management has a integration with production planning, inventory management,


ware house management, sales & distribution.
Note: Once the material created under the batches, that can not be changed.

Configuration Settings

Create Characteristics
Specify the characteristics for the material.
Go to CT04.
Enter the Characteristics. Ex: ZCOLOUR_BATCH

Click on create button.

Enter description: ZCOLOUR_BATCH FOR MATERIAL.


Character group: BATCH LO955
Data type: CHARACTER FORMAT (once you enter data type, character format then
you will get the further data like No. Of characters etc.)
Number of characters: 16
Choose single valve.
Enter the values under values tab.

Save it.

Create Class - CL02


For to create the class go to CL02.

Specify Class: ZCLASS_BATCH


Specify Class type: 023—Batch

Click on create.

Enter the description: ZCLASS_BATCH FOR MATERIAL.(under basic data)


Choose warning message.

Go to Characters tab & enter the Characters (what ever you created previously)

Save it.

Go to MM01 & Create material.


While choosing the select views choose the classification along with necessary select
views.
Go to Classification view.
Classification also should be maintain by creating characteristics with values(standard
class type 23)
Enter the Class name & press enter.
Enter the values.
Choose the both values & press enter.

Make sure that in Sales: General/Plant checking

Choose

Note: batch level can be determined at 3 levels.


• Client level
• Plant level
• Material level

If is client level the batch data applicable to all the plants.

If is plant level the batch data specific to plant level only, that means batch data should
be created for other plants, if it is extended.

If is material level then the batch data specific to material level. That means if the
material extended to other plant then new batch data should be created.

Activate Internal Batch Number Assignment


As the batch number should be assigned internally.

Choose

Maintain Internal Batch Number Assignment Range


Click on number ranges
Click on change intervals
Click on insert intervals
Define number ranges.

A) Define Sales and Distribution Condition Tables

Create Condition Table for Batch Determination (SD)
Ex: 002 Customer/Material
B) Access Sequences Define Sales and Distribution Access Sequences
Ex: SD01 -- Customer/Material
Choose SD01 & Click on
Assign condition table 002—KUNNR/MATNR

C) Strategy Types Define Sales and Distribution Strategy Types


Ex: SD04 -- Customer/Material
Select SD04 & Click on details.
Assign Class. Ex: ZCLASS_BATCH (which was created in CL01)
Click on maintain & Click on characteristics button
Check the characteristics once.

Assign Sorting Sequence. Ex: ZSORT_NAVEEN

Press enter.
Enter the description
Click on
Assign the characteristics. Ex: ZCOLOUR_BATCH

Save it & go back.

D) Batch Search Procedure Definition Define Sales and Distribution Search Procedure
Ex:
Choose SD0001 & Click on control data.
Go to new entries.
Assign strategy type. Ex: SD04-- Customer/Material
Save it. & Exit.

Go to new entries.
Activate Automatic Batch Determination in SD
A) Automatic Batch Determination for Sales Order Items
Choose item category – TAN

(It will be reflected in VOV7)

B) Activate Automatic Batch Determination for Delivery Item Category


Choose item category TAN&DLN

Maintain condition record for strategy type – VCH1

Select condition line item.
Go to details icon.
Click on

Save it. & Note down the batch number.

Create another batch by following same procedure.

Go to MB1C
Initialize the stock for the batch material with batch numbers.

Save and exit.

Go to va01 and raise the sales order


Check batch determination message on status bar and check batch number for line item
on overview screen.
