AWS Civic Apps Challenge FAQ

Q: What is the AWS Civic App Challenge? The AWS Civic App Challenge is a competition designed to identify, award, and support innovative U.S. based businesses developing civic applications on AWS solutions. After a series of judging rounds, we will select Four Category Finalists (one for each category), 12 Category Leaders (3 for each category), and a Grand Prize winner (one of the four Finalists). Categories are: 1. Utilities and Energy 2. Education 3. Public Safety and Health 4. Community Services We encourage all eligible businesses who are transforming public data into scalable solutions for citizens, businesses, and government organizations with their civic application(s) on AWS to enter. Q: Who is eligible to enter and win this contest? The AWS Civic Apps Challenge (Contest) is open to privately held U.S. businesses legally headquartered in the 50 United States or the District of Columbia at the time of entry. The Contest and Official Rules are void where prohibited by law, and are subject to applicable laws. Our and YouNoodle, Inc.s (YouNoodle) employees, parents, affiliates and subsidiaries, and participating advertising and promotion agencies and prize suppliers/funding entities, and members of their immediate family (spouse, domestic partner, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) or those living in their household, whether or not related) are not eligible. Entrants may not be members of any guild, union or other organization that may prohibit them from participating in this Contest and that would restrict, require due payment or otherwise have the right to oppose such entrants participation in this Contest. Prizes will be awarded in the name of the business that entered. By the time of submission, entrants must have an AWS account (see https://aws-portal.amazon.com/gp/aws/developer/registration/index.html). business days of notification and satisfy other eligibility requirements described in these Official Rules. If a potential Finalist does not timely satisfy all requirements set forth in the Official Rules, as determined by us in our sole discretion, a runner-up may be notified. The Finalists names will be announced on the Contest Website on or about the end of October, 2013. Final Round: The final round of judging will take place on or about November 14, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) re:Invent 2013 conference. Each Finalist must be present in person at the Final Round and must prepare, at his/her expense, a 10-minute presentation and demo of his/her Civic App Proposition. The presentation and demo must be in English and will be presented to the Amazon Judging Panel. Each presentation and demo will be followed by up to 15 minutes of Q&A by the Amazon Judging Panel. The Amazon Judging Panel will then meet privately to conduct a final review of the Finalists Entries and judge the Entries using the Judging Criteria. Then a representative from the Amazon Judging Panel will announce one Grand Prize winner for the Contest. Finalists must be present at the Final Round to be eligible to win the Grand Prize. Following announcement of the Grand Prize winner, the Finalists may be asked to present their Civic App Propositions to the AWS re:Invent 2013 conference audience. Tie Breakers.
