SKYLIGHT

The outpost of Skylight on the planet of Glaine was not a bustling city of markets and riches, it did however own a thriving black market in military grade protection and arments, such as the solas talamh trade. In fact much of the cities considerable wealth came from the military trade and products from the numerous factories surrounding the high tech city. And while the city was home to large amounts of civilians much of the population was made up from troops and their families.

Skylight was in fact a ginormous military base with the guise of a refugee city. The one government of earth had explored the solar systems attempting to find a habitable planet. In their search they had discovered the habitated planet of Glaine and had agreed with the indigenous race, the 'dchasacha' a deal that allowed them seven outposts on the planet in return for technology and other items of interest to the native tribes. The dchasacha were not as advanced as the humans and while having the advantage of being able to breathe in the atmosphere of Glaine (1) had fallen to the military might of the human race and been enslaved to their toxic factories. After overthrowing the ruling race of the planet the humans experienced a strange change in both their own population and the native animals of Glaine, the toxic atmosphere was changing the make-up of the world. The vast forests were burnt down in fire storms across the planet and the natural animals became freakishly large and warped. The only unchanged races were the humans and by part the dchasacha due to their enslavement in the factories, safe inside their air filled domes. The small pockets of dchasacha left in the outside were not excused from the changes, becoming monstrously strong and wild, almost devolving back to their primitive ape-like forms. The one government noticed these changes in the dchasacha and decided this was the secret to the next super soldiers of the human military (2) from this the 'Glass Army' was created. This took humans and dchasacha and exposed them to small amounts of the radaighnomhaochta or 'Haiocha' to give them superhuman abilities, this also had the added side effect of giving the human experimentee's the ability to breathe in the natural atmosphere of Glaine. The Army was given the title 'Glass soldiers' due to the side effect they gained if the experiment went wrong- they were turned into a clear mineral similar to glass.

1) the atmosphere of Glaine is made of 20% more oxygen than earth and as such is highly toxic to the human respiratory system- the atmosphere has also changed the human built factories have heavily polluted the atmosphere and made the air highly acidic and radioactive. 2) The super soldiers of the time were short lived and created with nuclear cell splicing to give them monstrous properties; they often lost their minds and were only controlled via computer chips in their necks. Planet of Glaine- Planet of glass, known for its rich deposits of diamonds and other precious resources and minerals. Solas Talamh - ground light, a kind of underfloor heating, lighting and electrocution device that is used both domestically as burglar protection and to heat and light homes.

Prologue
General Fassbinder had in all of his forty years as a member of the one military never been as nervous as he was now. Straightening his medals on his uniform he tenderly flattened his spiky grey hair down and sighed, he shouldn't be this nervous. It wasn't suitable of a man of his standing, the person he was meeting was to arrive at four and it was currently quarter to four. He gulped and arranged his files on the table in what he thought was a professional manner. He was only meeting a supporting strategical agent, a new employee even. So why was he so nervous? "General?" came a soft voice from the door. The general's eyes flicked up to her with what he hoped was an emotionless response. "Yes Cora?"

"The Druid Support agent is here, shall I tell him to come in or do you need a minute?" she asked giving him a simpering smile that leaked fakeness. "Send him in." He muttered, he was lying he needed those few minutes to steady his nerves, but if he didn't tighten his nerve now he knew he'd run away from the meeting. And THAT would just be embarrassing. The uniformed agent entered near silently into the small, well decorated office that was General Fassbinder's. After a small almost instinctive glance around the room his gaze landed on the sweating general. With all emotion blocked by the reflective black helmet Fassbinder couldn't be sure whether the man was impressed by the military medals adorning his flabby chest or not. Deciding it didn't matter either way Fassbinder motioned for the agent to be seated in the plush chair before him. After sitting the agent greeted him with a computerised voice, "Good afternoon General Fassbinder, I trust you are in good health?" The general, while surprised by the question as to his wellbeing, was not surprised by the mechanical voice. Many used the uniform, helmet and voice distorters to hide the deeds they did in the army and attempt to live a normal life without becoming hated or idolised. Shaking himself out of his self-imposed trance the general attempted a smile and replied, "I am well agent Raphael; I trust you yourself are in good condition?" "I am in optimum condition to be as effective as possible. But enough of menial greetings, we have a reason to be here, do we not?" The newly revealed Raphael answered coldly. Placing a file of the table he leaned back in his chair, "Here is the file of those I deem of an acceptable level to be supported by me." "So soon? I had presumed you would have observed all the druid soldiers for at least a week or two first." Fassbinder muttered leafing through the folder, raising his eyebrows at the selections inside, "You have certainly picked a strange mix of soldiers, are you sure they are all compatible in working together?" Raphael tilted his helmeted head like a predator observing his prey, "I do not require all of the suggested troops but I will insist on a few, all observations have been made, if I deem them unsuitable after a month they will be exchanged for others." He tapped a page in the folder, I will also be living in the garden level accommodations with full access to all levels of the city, including the laboratory and factory levels." Fassbinder blinked at Raphael with wide eyes, "You will be living with them." he repeated looking at the soldier, "you do realise they don't all live in the garden level?" He coughed slightly. "And they will rather quickly gather who you are if you show your face there." he raised a single brow, "and you don't mind this?" Raphael sat slightly straighter in his seat and Fassbinder swore he was glaring at him behind the helmet. "Yes, I know this, I am used to not revealing my identity for several years at a time, and several druid soldiers will be no problem compared to rouge dchasacha that I have spied on before." The general glanced at him before sighing and leaning back into his seats support, "If you are completely sure you want this then go ahead, I approve it." Raphael began to get up, "However I expect to hear of you training them to a level unseen in this army before and using your- ah" the general frowned, "-expertise to support and inform them against the enemy." Raphael nodded and left the room. The general slumped into his chair, buzzing the receptionist her muttered, "One coffee and a snack please." before glancing out the window, "wait, he wanted access to all levels of the city?!?" He cried jumping up to check if he could even give Raphael that privilege,

after all the general himself had never even been below the air level.

That's your taster folks, full chapter should be up in the next couple of days, also character profiles and art have been made to keep the story spinning in my mind. At the moment I will probably be switching between this and one of my other stories. As I have undergone a humongous writing style change I will be updating most of my stories or re-writing them as I deem fit as it would no longer make sense if I just continued. xx, HaylinC
