The romans, the japanese, and
countless other peoples have enjoyed
the benefits of hot-water immersions
throughout history, and now you
can, too. Soaking in a hot-water pool
relaxes tired muscles, promotes circula-
tions, and helps relieve mental stress.
Additionally, many professional ath-
letes use hydrotherapy and hot baths
for rehabilitation. Fortunately, spas
and hot tubs are much less expensive to
purchase and operate than traditional
swimming pools, and if a hot water
tub or spa is purchased for prescribed
therapy, its probably tax-deductible.

A significant difference is water
temperature. When the water tempera-

Although hot tubs and spas are
emptied infrequently, it is important
that they be emptied more often than
swimming pools because the water in
these smaller vessels receives relatively
more contaminants. (In larger pools,
the contaminants are diluted in larger
volumes of water and therefore go
unnoticed.)

Hot tub, spa, whirlpool, and
jacuzzi re just a few of the terms that
have been used interchangeably over
the years to describe hot-water special-
ty pools. The basic difference between
hot tubs and spas is that hot tubs are
made of wood and spas are not.
Spas can be constructed of concrete,
fiberglass, acrylic, or other synthetic
materials. Whirlpool is the term that is
used to describe the swirling action of
the water in therapy pools, and Jacuzzi
is the brand name that identifies cer-
tain manufactured pool parts such as
pumps, jets, and filters.

agua caliente o terma que sean efica-
ces son bastante simples: agua caliente
qumicamente equilibrada y filtrada,
asientos o bancos suficientes para todos
los participantes, un nmero adecuado
de surtidores, una luz subacutica para
ambientacin y seguridad, y ms de un
desage en el fondo.
Otra amenidad que realzar en gran

tub or spa are quite simple: hot water
that is chemically balanced and filtered,
sufficient seats or benches for all par-
ticipants, an adequate number of jets,
an underwater light for ambience and
safety, and more than one bottom outlet
(drain) Another amenity that will great-
ly enhance your hot-water experience
is a nearby shower, which will enable
you to wash before and after using the
hot-water pool. Soap showers not only
keep the water and shell clean, but also
help prevent the passing of germs and
bacteria to others using the hot tub or
spa. When placed indoors, reinforced
floors are a must, for most spas and hot
tubs produce a weight that is five times
greater than most floors can support
safely.

If you prefer a deeper tub and a rustic
loos, you may also prefer a hot tub to a
spa, although a hot tub will require more
maintenance and is somewhat harder to
keep clean. As far as drainage is con-
cerned, hot tubs require more care; if
drained for more than a day or two, the
wood will shrink, causing the tub to leak
when refilled. Whenever you dump your
tub, do it for a short period of time. Water
chemistry is also a more crucial factor in
hot tubs than in spas. Insufficient disin-
fection can allow bacteria to grow at a
faster rate in the porous surfaces of the
wood. Conversely, excessive disinfection
can cause the wood to discolor.

Hot-tubbing as we know it today
became popular in California during
the late 1960s. More specifically, Santa
Barbarans who enjoyed soaking in
nearby canyon hot springs combined
the watertight, wooden wine barrels
from Californias wine country with
modern technology to reproduce hot
springs on their own properties. Wine
barrels and caskets are available in a
variety of sizes, although just about
all are round. Therefore, a hot tub is
technically a wooden tub filled with hot
water and hydrotherapy jets. Hot tubs
can be made of redwood, mahogany,
teak, cedar, and other woods. Hot tubs
may be placed either outside or inside
your home.
When a hot tub is first filled, the water
will probably turn brown. This rust- or
coffee-coloured water is produced by
the tannic acid in the wood that is leach-
ing out into the water. Consequently,
it is imperative that new hot tubs be
filled and emptied frequently during
the first month of ownershipor until

Above-ground spas are portable
and easy to move because they are
self-containedall of their circula-
tion equipment is hidden underneath
the skirt, or frame. The average port-
able spa weighs 135 to 225 kg and
normally holds 380 to 1,900 l. of
water. Despite their weight, portable
spas can usually be moved on their
sides through a doorway. Because
they are temporary structures, they
do not normally require a building

struction, although they usually need
to be placed on a reinforced floor
for support.
The portable spa is usually heated
by electricity, and many models
only require 110 volts, which can be
obtained in any residential wall out-
let. A portable spa should, however,
be on a 20-amp circuit by itself, with-
out other large appliances. Otherwise,
youll blow the circuit.
One disadvantage of a portable
spa on 110 volts is that it is slow to
heat up. To combat this problem,
you might consider having an electri-
cian hard-wire the spa for 220 volts.

In-ground Spas
In-ground spas are permanent
installations. Their circulation equip-
ment is not self-contained but located
nearby, often in an adjacent room or
closet. Purchasing an in-ground spa is
usually a more involved process than
a portable spa because design, plan-
ning, construction, and landscap-
ing are often part of the package.
Most large, in-ground commercial
spas are made of concrete. Smaller
concrete spas are also available,
and can be installed indoors or out.
Although concrete spas are durable
and easy to maintain, installing one
is similar to building a swimming
pool. Concrete spas are custom-
poured, thereby adding considerable
expense for labor, materials, and
specialized equipment. Residential
in-ground concrete spas tend to be
large, elaborate, and expensive, but
they last forever. Concrete spas can
be lined with indestructible tile may
be placed at water level to aid in
cleaning the scum line. Cleaning the
scum line from concrete is extremely
difficult.

Swim Spas
Perhaps the most recent develop-
ment in this area of spas is the swim
spa, which can be installed indoors or
out. Generally rectangular, most swim
spas are longer than spas and hot
tubs much shorter than most swimming
pools. Swim spas fulfil two functions. If
you wish to lap-swim for exercise with-
out committing the space or money to
build a long pool (19.8 to 22.9 m), the
swim spa allows you to swim in place
just as a treadmill allows you to jog
in place. A large swim spa can be 3 x
6.1 m long. For fitness swimming, tem-
peratures should be maintained between
25.5 and 27.8C. The water current in
the spa can be adjusted to your strength,
conditioning, and skill level; if you want
to increase the intensity of your work-
out, simply turn up the current.
The second function of the swim spa is
relaxation and hydromassage. The ther-
mostat may be adjusted to increase the
water temperature so that when you are
not swimming vigorously in place, you
can relax by soaking in the same way as
hot tubbers do. Some larger swim spas
have separate swimming and soaking
areas so that swimmers can enjoy dif-
ferent activities simultaneously.

SPA INSTALLATION
One location has to be chosen for the
spa and another one for the pump and
filter equipment, also called bedplate.
The maximum distance between the
equipment and the spa should be no
more than 4m so as to avoid losing
pressure and heat.
The spa can be located in or above
ground.
In-ground spa
We first choose the location for the
spa and the bedplate. Using the dimen-
sions of the spa an appropriate excava-
tion is dug out and soil is removed, leav-
ing from 20 to 30 cm leeway.
Trenching for the pipes between the
bedplate and the spa are marked. Piping
will consist of PVC pipes (10 atm) with
an exterior diameter of 50 or 63 mm.
Trenching will be at the same level as the
bottom part of the spa. Sand is poured
onto the bottom of the excavation to
firmly accommodate the spa

on the area expressly reserved for the
drain. Then the connection for the sump

In order to secure the spa in place,
build an interior brick wall. (See fig. 4)
Connect the pump bedplate to the spa
and finish building the walls between
the pillars to fully close the structure.
We recommend that you leave an 80 x
80 access door in case of breakdowns.

calor que se produce a travs de las
paredes y sobre todo en el largo de las

cial attention must be paid to heat lost
through the walls and in particular to
the length of the pipes from the tub to
the pumps.
In consequence it is very important to
ensure thermal insulation and to cover
the spa to prevent large amounts of
evaporation. In addition, it is also neces-
sary to build a concrete structure that is
large enough, because vibrations caused
by air and water circulation could cause
cracks in the structure.

How to use the Spa
1.- Filling it up
To fill the tub valves must be in the
position indicated below, and the multi-

Qumica del agua caliente
Existen retos especiales cuando se
trata con qumicos para agua calien-
te. El agua caliente y la turbulencia
creada por los chorros de hidroterapia
presentan problemas qumicos exclusi-
vos para el propietario de la terma o
bao de agua caliente. Bsicamente,
los desinfectantes que se emplean para
mantener limpia el agua son inestables
a temperaturas ms altas. Por ejemplo
el bromino es ms popular en aplica-
ciones para agua caliente que el cloro
ya que el bromino permanece estable a
temperaturas elevadas. Los chorros de
hidroterapia tambin airean y mueven
el agua, haciendo que un poco del des-
infectante salga de la solucin acuosa.
La evaporacin del agua tambin
es mayor cuando los chorros estn
encendidos causando prdidas de pro-
ducto qumico. En resumen, se requiere
mayor diligencia para mantener los
niveles qumicos altos en una terma
que en una piscina normal.
Hot-water chemistry
There are special challenges when
dealing with hot-water chemistry. The
hot water and the turbulence created
by the hydrotherapy jets present unique
chemical problems for the spa or hot-
tub owner. Basically, disinfectants
used to keep the water clean and clear
are unstable at higher temperatures.
Bromine, for instance, is more popular
in hot-water applications than chlorine
because bromine is more stable at ele-
vated temperatures. The hydrotherapy
jets also aerate and move water, causing
some of the disinfectant to come out of
the solution. Evaporation is also greater
when the jets are turned on, thereby
increasing chemical loss. In summary, it
takes greater diligence to keep chemical
levels up in a spa than in a pool.

terma. Debido a que relativa-
mente ms cantidad de sudor se
encuentra dentro de una piscina

cantidad relativamente mayor
de desinfectante para mante-

In addition, several people in
a hot tub or spa can tax the disin-
fection and filtration system, for
most people perspire profusely
while in a hot tub or spa. Because
relatively more perspiration finds
its way into a small pool, a rela-
tively greater amount of disinfect-
ant is needed to keep the water
clean. Recommended chemical
levels for a hot tub or spa are
almost double that required for a
swimming pool. Also, as the free,
active disinfectants combine with
natural body by-products, they
can create unpleasant odors and
eye irritation. On way of attack-
ing this problem is to shock,
or superchlorinate, the water
with high dosages of chemicals;
another alternative is to drain
and clean the spa or hot tub
regularly. Provided there are no
water restrictions in place, you
may find dumping the spa or hot
tub to be more effective and less
expensiveand healthierthan
superchlorination.

MANTENIMIENTO DE LA
SALUBRIDAD DEL AGUA

- Renovacin del agua del spa:

La sustitucin del agua se realiza
con una frecuencia aproximada de
2-3 veces al mes. An as cada instala-
cin es distinta ya que esta sustitucin
depende de varios factores que a conti-
nuacin se detallan:
1.- Intensidad de uso de
la instalacin.
2.- Cuidado en el uso del
hidromasaje.
3.- Acceso al spa siempre
precedido de una ducha.
4.- Control del PH y
BROMO libre.
5.- Cantidad de horas de
funcionamiento del circuito
de filtracin.
La sustitucin del agua,
en instalaciones con mucha
afluencia de personas (por
ejemplo 50 personas dia-
rias), puede llegar a ser
necesario cambiar el agua
a diario.
Siempre que el spa est en servicio,
el circuito de filtracin tiene que estar
en marcha. Si no consigue mantener el
agua limpia, programe el reloj horario
para aumentar las horas de filtracin
antes de empezar el servicio.
Si observamos que manteniendo el
agua en los parmetros PH y bromo
correctos y ya hemos aumentado las
horas de filtrado y no conseguimos
mantener el agua limpia sustityala.
Recuerde que la imagen de su insta-
lacin puede quedar afectada por el
hecho de no tener el agua limpia.

MAINTAINING THE
SANITIARY CONDITIONS
OF WATER
- Changing spa water:
Water should be changed approxi-
mately 2-3 times per month. However,
all facilities differ since this change
depends on the following factors:
1.- Intensity of use of facility
2.- Care in using hydro massage
3.- Always showering before using spa
4.- Control of pH and free bromine
5.- Length of time filtration circuit is
operating.
In facilities used by large numbers of
persons (for example 50 persons daily)
may even require changing the water
every day.
Whenever the spa is in service the
filtration circuit must be
operating. If the water
does not stay clean, pro-
gramme the time clock
to increase filtration time
before starting to use the
spa.
If you are keeping the
water within proper PH
and bromine param-
eters, have

Remember

- Control del Ph y Bromo:
El parmetro ms importante para
mantener en condiciones el agua de un
Spa, es el llamado PH:
P.H. Indicador que revela la alcalini-
dad del agua. Si el PH no se encuentra
en los parmetros correctos, los pro-
ductos desinfectantes quedan inactivos
en el agua y no se consumen hasta
que el ph sea corregido. Si el spa est
dosificando bromo durante varios das
estando el PH incorrecto, quedar acu-
mulado en el agua, si en este momento
corrige el ph, har subir el bromo o
desinfectante a niveles muy superiores
desprendiendo un fuerte olor a bromo.
En este caso sustituya urgentemente el
agua del spa.
As pues empezaremos siempre por
analizar y controlar el parmetro PH.
Por norma general, el ph tiende a
subir debido al sudor corporal, as pues
si al realizar el anlisis, observamos la
subida del mismo, aadir el producto
que corresponda, aadiendo las canti-
dades que indique el fabricante.
El parmetro ideal para el PH est
comprendido entre 7,2 y 7,7.
Una vez ledo y corregido el PH del
agua spa aadiendo el producto que
corresponda proceder a la lectura y
regulacin del desinfectante o bromo.
La desinfeccin del agua es de suma
importancia para destruir algas, bac-
terias y organismos que pueden crecer
en el agua. Como producto para la
desinfeccin slo puede utilizar bromo
en pastillas, este producto es similar al
cloro, pero ms suave, sus propiedades
son menos agresivas sobre la piel y
menos olor a producto cuando el spa
est en marcha.
Para la desinfeccin del agua el
equipo dispone de un dosificador de
bromo en lnea regulable de ms o
menos cantidad, ste dosifica el pro-
ducto disolviendo las tabletas del inte-
rior al circular el agua del circuito de
filtracin. De manera que siempre que
la filtracin est en marcha ir disol-
vindose las tabletas.

- Control of pH and Bromine:
The most important parameter to
maintain proper water conditions in a
spa is the pH:
The pH indicator shows the alkalinity
of the water. If the pH is not within the
correct parameters disinfecting products
in the water are inactivated and are not
effective until the pH is the correct one.
If the spa feeds bromine doses for a
few days with incorrect pH, it will sim-
ply accumulate in the water. If at that
moment the pH is corrected, the bromine
or disinfectant levels will raise sharply,
giving rise to a strong smell of bromine.
If this should happen you must rapidly
change the water in the spa.
In consequence the first thing to do
is always analyse the water to check
the pH.
In general, the pH tends to increase
as a result of body perspiration. If
the analysis shows that the pH has
increased, necessary products will be
added to the water in the amounts
specified by the manufacturer.
Ideal pH values are between 7.2 and
7.7.
After checking and correcting the
pH of the water in the spa by adding
the appropriate product, you must
check and regulate the disinfectant or
bromine. Disinfecting water is extremely
important in order to destroy algae,
bacteria and organisms that may grow
in the water. The only disinfecting prod-
uct you should use is bromine in tablet
form. Bromine is similar to chlorine but
not as strong. It is less aggressive on skin
and its odour is less noticeable when the
spa is operating.
To disinfect the water the equipment
the equipment has an adjustable bro-
mine feeder. The feeder provides the
proper doses of the product, and the
tablets inside are dissolved by water cir-
culating in the filtration circuit. In other
words the tablets will dissolve whenever
the filtration system is working.

Por norma el consumo del des-
infectante en cada instalacin es
homogneo, para empezar a dosificar
coloque el regulador al mnimo y
tome lectura de los dos o tres das
posteriores. Si observa que el nivel del
bromo no es correcto, corrjalo con el
regulador. Realice la misma operacin
en los siguientes das hasta conseguir
que los parmetros se mantengan
aproximadamente entre 2,2 y 3,3 ppm
(ppm=g/m3).
Es necesario mantener el agua
del spa desinfectada ya que los resi-
duos orgnicos de los usuarios como
los residuos de cosmticos y jabones,
sometidos a las altas temperaturas del
agua, favorecen el rpido crecimiento
de bacterias.
Los mrgenes correctos de los pro-
ductos son los siguientes:
De 2 a 6 ppm para el bromo libre
De 7,2 a 7,7 para el PH
Mantener siempre el PH entre los
niveles correctos, de no ser as no
importa la cantidad de bromo que
dosifique, ya que estar inactivo hasta
que el PH se estabilice.
- Productos especiales:
Adems de los productos mencio-
nados para mantener correctamente
el ph y el bromo disponemos de otros
especialmente diseados para mante-
ner el spa en perfectas condiciones.
Anticalcreo: Evita la precipitacin
de sales de calcio (incrustaciones en
el casco e instalaciones), en agua muy
duras. Disolver directamente al agua
un tapn del producto cada semana y
cada vez que llene el spa.

In general consumption of disinfect-
ant in each facility is homogeneous.
To start dispensing bromine, adjust the
feeder at the minimum and check read-
ings for two or three days. If the bromine
level is not correct, readjust the feeder
using the regulator. Repeat the operation
for a few days until the bromine values
are between 2.2 and 3.3 ppm approxi-
mately (ppm=g/m3).
The water of the spa must be main-
tained disinfected because when organic
residue of users, such as residue from
cosmetics and soaps, is subject to the
high temperatures of the water this
favours the rapid growth of bacteria.
The appropriate values for the prod-
ucts are the following:
From 2 to 6 ppm for the free bromine
From 7.2 to 7.7 for the pH
You should always maintain the pH
between the correct levels. Otherwise,
regardless of the amount of bromine
you use, the latter will be inactive until

- Special products
In addition to the products mentioned

Desengrasante: Cuando realice el
vaciado del spa limpie con una esponja
suave los cercos de grasas acumuladas
en las paredes y enjuguelas con un
pao absorbente para evitar que se
produzca espuma al llenar.
Una accin desinfectante excesiva
puede producir irritaciones en la piel
y en los ojos.
- Problemas ms comunes que pre-
senta el agua del spa:
El agua est turbia:
- El filtro de arena est sucio, com-
pruebe la presin del manmetro y
realice una limpieza, si es necesario.
- El Ph est excesivamente elevado, com-
pruebe parmetro y aminrelo si es nece-
sario.
- Hay exceso de cal en el agua, compruebe
que el ph est en los parmetros correctos y
aada anticalcreo.
Existen incrustaciones de cal en las
paredes del spa: Precipitacin de las sales
de calcio, vaciar el spa y disolver las incrus-
taciones con desincrustante, limpiar y secar
perfectamente. En adelante controle correc-
tamente el ph y aada ms a menudo el
anticalcreo. Si el problema persiste instale
un descalcificador para spa.
El agua est de color verde:
- Presencia de algas en el agua. Disuelva
algicida en el agua.
- Posible alto nivel de metales como el
cobre en el suministro del agua. Consulte
con el tcnico de tratamientos de agua.
El agua est de color marrn: Posible
alto nivel de metales como el hierro en el
suministro del agua. Consulte con el tcnico
de tratamientos de agua.
Formacin continua de espumas:
Exceso de jabones, cosmticos o grasas.
Vace el spa, lmpielo con desengrasante,
enjuague perfectamente e intente corregir
los hbitos de los usuarios. No utilizar
baadores de tipo pantaln ya que siempre
quedan partculas de jabn sin enjuagar
despus de las duchas.

Algicides: They prevent algae from
growing in the water of the spa. Add
two caps of the product when you
notice green particles around the jets or
other accessories.
Antifoaming products: Due to
agitation of the spa water and soap
and grease residues foam can form
in the water. To prevent this condition,
the product is poured directly into the
water and the foam disappears imme-
diately.
Degreaser: When you empty the spa
clean the grease marks left on the sides
of the shell with a sponge and rinse
with an absorbing cloth to avoid having
foam when the spa is refilled.
Using too much of the disinfecting
products may cause eye and skin irri-
tation.
- Common problems affecting spa
water:
The water is cloudy:
- The sand filter may be dirty, check
the pressure of the pressure gauge and
clean if necessary.
- The pH may be too high, check the level
and lower it if necessary.
- There may be too much calcium in the
water, so check to make sure pH is at the
right level and add anti-calcareous product.
There are calcareous incrustations
on the sides of the spa: This is due to
precipitation of calcium salts. Empty the
spa and dissolve the incrustations with an
anti-scale product, clean and dry well. Then
properly control pH levels and add anti-cal-
careous product more often. It the problem
persists install a decalcifier for the spa.
The water if green:
- There are algae in the water. Dissolve
algicide in the water.
- The level of metals in the water supply,
such as copper, may be too high. Consult a
water treatment expert.
The water if brown:

Frequent foaming:

MANTENIMIENTO
DEL EQUIPO
DE MAQUINARIA
Recuerde que un mantenimiento
exhaustivo y constante har, que tanto,
la maquinaria como el acrlico tenga
una mayor durabilidad, as como una
buena imagen para su instalacin.
Si su instalacin es de uso profesional
debera comprobar los siguientes puntos,
si dicha instalacin es de uso domstico
puede realizarlo una vez al mes.
1.- Revisar el manmetro que indi-
ca la presin de trabajo que hay
en el momento, en caso de ser una
presin anmala, es decir, superior
a 1,2 kg/cm2, debe procederse a una
limpieza de filtro. La escala a seguir
es la interior (color rojo). El manme-
tro est situado al lado de la vlvula
del filtro. Para realizar una limpieza
seguir las instrucciones indicadas en
su apartado.
Al terminar esta operacin el man-
metro debe indicar aproximadamente
0,7 kilos de presin, de no ser as
vuelva a realizar la operacin. Si su
instalacin es de uso profesional, y con
mucha afluencia de usuarios, es posible
que necesite realizar la limpieza de
filtro y la sustitucin del agua con bas-
tante frecuencia. De ser su caso cuando
sustituya el agua puede realizar la lim-
pieza del filtro, ya que esta operacin
tambin se vaca el spa.
2.- Compruebe que el dosificador de
bromo est lleno de tabletas.
3.- Compruebe que los filtros de las
bombas estn perfectamente limpios,
puede observarlo a travs de la tapa
transparente de la bomba.

MAINTAINING THE
MACHINERY AND
EQUIPMENT
Remember that constant and
thorough maintenance with ensure the
longevity of the machinery and the plex-
iglas, together with the good aspect of
your facility.
If your facility is for professional use,
you should check the following elements.
If your facility is for home use, this can
be done once a month.
1.- Check the pressure gauge, which
shows the work pressure at any given
moment. In case it is not correct, in other
words greater than 1.2 kg/cm2, you must
clean the filter. The scale you must fol-
low is the inside one (red). The pressure
gauge is located next to the filter valve.
To clean the filter, follow the instructions
in the corresponding section.
When you have finished, the pressure
gauge should mark, approximately,
0.7 kilos of pressure. If this is not the
case, repeat the cleaning operation. If

La cobertura flotante
La cobertura flotante, que puede
ser manual o automtica, garantizan
la seguridad, la proteccin y una gran
esttica.
Dentro de todas sus ventajas prote-
je de la polucin y de la iluminacin
evitando la degradacin del agua.
Cubre perfectamente toda la superficie
de sta dejando a la vista el diseo de
la piscina. Las lamas que forman la
cobertura la aislan trmicamente. Son
de un mantenimiento simple y fcil y
en el caso de las automticas con un
simple mando se abre y se cierra a
una velocidad reducida con sistema de
autolimpieza.
Dentro de las desventajas tenemos
la sofisticacin de la tecnologa para el

BAO DE VAPOR
El uso de los baos de vapor tiene
su origen en la civilizacin griega,
bsicamente como terapia de curacin
de enfermedades y estimulacin del
organismo.
Posteriormente, los romanos, emu-
lando a los griegos adoptaron esta
forma de terapia por sus resultados
favorecedores para el organismo. Con
la extensin geogrfica del imperio
romano durante la poca de las con-
quistas en todo el continente, el uso del
bao de vapor se extendi de forma
generalizada en todas las zonas cuya
influencia romana era notoria. En latn
el bao de vapor era generalmente
conocido como Sudatorium.
Durante la evolucin y desarrollo
del bao de vapor, y en diferentes
zonas, ste se ha conocido con distin-
tas terminologas, as podemos asociar
al bao de vapor con: Bao de vapor,
Hammam. Bao turco. Bao romano.
Steam bath.
STEAM BATHS
The origins of steam baths date back
to the Greek civilisation, and were used
as therapy to cure illnesses and to stimu-
late the body.
Later, the Romans, in their attempt to
emulate the Greeks, adopted this form
of therapy because of its positive results
for the body. With the geographic exten-
sion of the Roman Empire during the
period of conquest all over Europe, the
use of steam baths spread to all parts
under Roman influence. In Latin the
steam bath was generally called suda-
torium.
In the course of the steam baths his-
tory and evolution it has been identified
with different terms, including some
of the following: steam bath, hot tub,
Hamman, Turkish bath, Roman bath.
Under the Romans, steam was gener-
ated with water boilers that were heated
until the water boiled. The water was
then channelled to and stored in the
rooms built for the baths. Temperature
Durante todo ste perodo, el vapor
se generaba a travs de calderas de
agua calentadas a fuego hasta que pro-
ducan vapor al hervir, este era condu-
cido y acumulado en los habitculos
para realizar los baos. La regulacin
de la temperatura se realizaba de
forma simple como reducir o aumentar
la cantidad de lea o la cantidad de
agua a hervir. De esta forma se espar-
ca el vapor por todo el habitculo.
Tal como se puede comprobar los
efectos que ejerce el bao de vapor
sobre el organismo son muy similares
a los de la sauna, aunque las sensacio-
nes al tomar los dos tipos de bao son
totalmente distintos.
En resumen los efectos del bao de
vapor son similares al de la sauna
aunque incide en mayor medida sobre
el efecto a las vas respiratorias al
humidificarlas y la hidratacin de la
piel. Adems, tomar una sesin en un
bao de vapor es mucho ms suave y
agradable.

decreasing the amount of wood burning
or the amount of water to be boiled. In
this way steam was spread throughout
the room.
The effects produced by steam baths
on the body are very similar to those
produced by saunas, although the
sensations in the two systems are very
different.
In short, the effects of the steam bath
are very similar to the effects of sau-
nas, although the former focuses more
on the respiratory tract by humidifying
them and on the skin, which it hydrates.
Furthermore, a session in a hot tub is
much softer and more pleasant that in
a sauna.

Descripcin del bao de
vapor
El bao de vapor es un habitculo
cerrado y estanco, diseado para ser
ocupado por varios usuarios sentados
o acostados, construido con la com-
binacin de diversos materiales cuya
caracterstica comn es la resistencia
a la oxidacin y a la temperatura.
Este habitculo incorpora un equipo
elctrico cuya funcin principal es la
generacin e inyeccin de vapor en el
interior de la cabina, controlar y regu-
lar la cantidad de vapor y temperatura
automticamente. Este es el factor ms
importante de las cabinas de vapor.
El parmetro correcto temperatura-
humedad en el bao de vapor es de
intervalos (Temperatura 43C-46C
- Humedad 100%). La cabina debe con-
tener siempre una neblina de vapor en
su interior de forma que siempre est
en contacto con el usuario.
Sistema constructivo del
bao de vapor
Para obtener el mximo rendimien-
to con el mnimo consumo en cuanto
a energa elctrica y potencia de los
equipos es necesario construir la cabi-
na siguiendo las instrucciones de las
siguientes figuras.
Puntos muy importantes:
- Construccin de una doble pared
con aislamiento trmico, en las mxi-
mas paredes posibles para evitar con-
sumos elctricos innecesarios y reducir
el tiempo de espera hasta conseguir la
temperatura deseada.
- Colocacin de tela asfltica o simi-
lar en todo el suelo y paredes hasta
una altura superior al nivel del banco.
Rebozado con mortero impermeabili-
zante en toda la superficie para evitar
filtraciones a las habitaciones contiguas
o plantas inferiores.

Description of a steam
bath
A steam bath is a closed, watertight
room designed to be sued by several
users who sit or lie down, made of a
combination of materials having a com-
mon feature, namely resistance to rust-
ing and to temperatures. This room
includes electric equipment to generate
and inject steam into the room or cabin,
and control and regulate the amount of
steam automatically.
The correct temperature-humidity
parameter in a steam bath has inter-
vals (temperature of 43C-46C 100%
Humidity). Users in the cabin must
always be in contact with steam vapour.
Building a steam bath
In order to obtain maximum per-
formance with minimum consumption
of electrical energy and the power of
the equipment, the following instructions
should be followed to build the cabin:

- Build a double wall with as much
thermal insulation as possible to avoid
unnecessary electrical consumption and
to reduce the waiting time to achieve the
desired temperature.
- Place asphaltic sheet or similar mate-
rial over the floor and walls up to a
height above the level of the bench, ren-
dered with waterproof mortar to avoid
seepage into adjacent rooms or lower
floors.

1.- Coloque los perfiles de soporte de 40 x 20 mm en las paredes
laterales perfectamente a nivel, con tacos y tornillos de acero
inoxidable. Dichos perfiles estn etiquetados como derecha, izquierda,
trasera y fachada. Para situar los perfiles sitese delante de la cabina.
Antes de fijar los perfiles coloque un cordn de silicona para asegurar
su estanqueidad.
4.- Una vez realizadas estas operaciones, se seleccionarn los mdulos
de techo marcados con los textos techo 1, techo 2, etc. stos se
situarn encajados en los perfiles y entre s de forma correlativa,
segn los nmeros marcados, haciendo coincidir su numeracin, con
la del plano que se le suministrar con el techo.
1.- Place 40 x 20mm support frames on the side walls, perfectly level,
with stainless steel insets and screws. Said frames are labelled as right,
left, back and faade. To place the frames stand in front of the room.
Before securing the frames place a coat of silicone to ensure that they
are watertight.
2.- Coloque los perfiles curvados de manera que la regata central
coincida con la regata del perfil recto.

Los techos prefabricados estn cons-
truidos con los siguientes materiales:
- Plancha de polimetacrilato de meti-
lo de 3 mm de espesor en color blanco
opaco o bien en color azul si se desea
instalar un cielo estrellado.
- Estructura interior en bastidores de
aluminio anodizados de 10 micras.
- Capa de resina de poliester con
manta de fibra de vidrio de 2 mm de
espesor.
- Refuerzo del mdulo con plancha
de lminas a base de colas fenlicas.
- 2 capa de resina poliester con
manta de fibra de vidrio de 2 mm de
espesor.
- Perfiles de soporte de los mdulos
de aluminio anodizado y lacado en
blanco.
Ventajas del techo prefabricado
El polimetacrilato es un material
acrlico no poroso ni absorbente, es
muy adecuado para la fabricacin de
los techos de las cabinas de vapor, ya
que el vapor de agua al condensarse
en l, se desliza perfectamente hasta
las paredes laterales, evitando as el
desagradable goteo sobre el usuario.
Al ser un material nada poroso evita
la proliferacin de hongos y bacterias,
siendo muy fcil su limpieza y desin-
feccin.

Prefabricated roofs are built with the
following materials:
- White opaque 3mm thick methyl
polymethacrylate sheet, or blue if you
wish to have starry ceiling
- Interior structure made of 10 micra
anodised aluminium frame
- Coat of polyester resin with 2mm
thick fibre glass wool
- Module reinforced with sheets using
phenolic glue
- Second coating of polyester resin
with 2mm thick fibre glass wool
- Longitudinal section to support mod-
ules made of anodised aluminium and
lacquered white
Advantages of prefabricated roofs
Polymethacrylate is a non-porous
and non-absorbing acrylic material. It
is very appropriate for the manufacture
of roofs for steam rooms, since when
vapour condenses in it, it slides to the
side walls, thus avoiding unpleasant
dripping on users.
Since it is not porous, it prevents the
proliferation of fungi and bacteria, and
is easily cleaned and disinfected.

Con el equipo de vapor se sumi-
nistra una boquilla para la salida de
vapor. sta se utiliza para fijar el tubo
a la obra y dirigir el chorro de vapor
hacia el suelo. (Ver figuras arriba)
Uno de los puntos ms importantes
de la instalacin es la ubicacin de la
boquilla de vapor. Tenga en cuenta que
el vapor de agua, sale por la boquilla
a una temperatura de 100 grados, de
manera que hay que colocarla en un
sitio que el usuario no pueda sufrir nin-
guna quemadura.
Con el equipo se suministra un
ventilador y un tubo de pvc, para la
ventilacin de la cabina. Siempre que la
instalacin lo permite colocaremos la
entrada de aire encima de la boquilla
de vapor, de esta manera conseguire-
mos refrigerar el vapor a la salida de

Placing the steam head
The steam equipment includes a
head for steam outlet. It is used to
secure the pipe of the installation and to
direct the jet of steam towards the floor.
See diagrams above.
One of the most important elements of
the installation is where the steam head
is placed. Bear in mind that steam comes
out of the head at a temperature of 100
degrees, so that it should be placed in
such a way that users will not risk being
burnt.
The equipment includes a fan and
a pvc pipe for the ventilation of the
room. Whenever possible, place the air
inlet above the steam head, in order to
refrigerate the steam as it comes out of
