Hot Rolled Flat Steel Products

Hot Rolled Flat Steel Products are produced through hot rolling of continuously casted slabs into 1.20 - 25 mm thickness range. These hot rolled products can be in the form of coils or sheets which are cut into various lengths. Heavy Plates are produced by hot rolling of slabs into 5 - 180 mm thickness and 1000 - 3800 mm width range.

General Application Areas

We spread out our hot rolled steel grades application areas in a wide range to meet the demands of different requests and expectations of our customers who are active in industrial area. The steel grades for cold forming and deep drawing have excellent performance in applications of bending and drawing, so mainly used in automotive industry and related sectors. Wheel and frame steels which have both high strength and high formability properties are used for producing wheels and frames in automotive industry. With the guaranteed minimum yield and tensile strengths, satisfactory ductility and hardness properties, suitable for conventional welding processes general structural steels are mainly used in heavy equipment, caterpillars, heavy plates for general construction, land and railway vehicles, storage tanks and containers production. Hot rolled pipe grades, with high tensile strength, excellent hardness and weldability properties are mainly used for the production of pipes for the transport of gaseous or fluid substances such as water or oil. Steels for pressure vessels and boilers, with excellent forming and weldability properties are mainly used to manufacture boilers, drums, industrial thermal vessels, heat exchangers and pipes which are exposed to pressure and steam. Deep drawing and non-ageing steels with excellent weldability and hardness properties are mainly used for manufacturing of gas containers that guarantees the safety requirements. Steels for shipbuilding with the weldability and required hardness properties can be used for shipbuilding applications (the interior of the ship and the hull).

Cold Rolled Flat Steel Products

Cold rolled flat steel products are produced by two main rolling processes as hot rolling and finally cold rolling into 0.20-2.00 mm thicknesses. The Cold products are in the form of coils or sheets which are cut into various lengths. While the products physical properties are all homogeneous along the strip, surface flatness, width and thickness values fulfill expectations at the top level.

General Application Areas

The steel grades for cold forming are preferred when bending and deep drawing processes where toughness and ductile properties are required. These steels are mainly used in automotive components and body panels, metal furniture, appliances, radiators, some profiles and ventilation equipments. Non-aging extra deep-drawing steels (IF) are the best material to fulfill automotive and white goods industries special expectations. High strength low alloy cold rolled steels (HSLA), that combine improved weldability with good formability, low content of both carbon and microalloying elements are mainly used in automotive suspension components, reinforcements, industrial shelving systems and furniture production. Cold rolled steels for enamelling are suitable for light and deep drawing and enamelling can be applicated one/two coats or one/two fires. These steels are used for kitchen utensils (cookers, pots, pans) and domestic appliances (oven grates, lids).

Galvanized/Galvannealed Flat Steel Products

Hot dip galvanized steels are continuously coated on both sides with a zinc layer by means of a continuous hot dip galvanizing process. Galvannealed steel is produced by alloying zinc coating to the steel to create a zinc-iron coating via induction heating. Cold forming and deep drawing grades, structural steels and high strength and low alloy steels can be coated with zinc/zinc-iron alloys. Galvanized/galvannealed steels are passivated with chromating or oiling to preserve the coating against corrosion. These products have three different surface qualities A, B, and C, based on international standards.

Advantages Corrosion Resistance: Zinc protects the base metal by providing a barrier to corrosive elements so that presents an excellent corrosion resistance. Ultimate service life depends on coating thickness and the severity of the environment (humidity, salt). Excellent Surface Appearance: The C surface quality can be applied to exposed parts without any difficulty. Formability: Galvanized steels can be used in applications that require deep drawing and bending operations. Paintability: These steels are paintable if proper pre-treatment (degreasing, surface treatment) is provided. Weldability: These steels can be welded with most of the welding processes. Galvannealed steels have improved spot weldability. General Applications Areas The use of galvanized/galvannealed products in the automotive industry is growing over the years because of the requirements for improved corrosion resistance and paint adherence. Most automotive manufacturers use galvanized products for both exterior and interior parts, enabling them to guarantee up to life-time warranty against corrosion. Hot dip galvanized steels are used for various components of the car body. Structural hot dip galvanized/galvannealed steels are used for a wide range of applications in the construction building industry. Depending on the atmospheric conditions and the desired corrosion resistance, the steels which need different coating thicknesses are mainly used in cladding, roofs, doors, fences, profiling and components for agricultural machinery applications. The galvanized steels which have been used in the past for non-visible parts in domestic appliances are now also being used for visible parts. Therefore the steel materials used for domestic appliances are mainly galvanized steels.

Electrolytic Tinplate and Electrolytic Chromium Coated Steel (ECCS or TFS)

Electrolytic Tinplate is a cold-rolled low carbon mild steel sheet or coil produced in 0.12-0.60 mm thickness range and coated on both surfaces with tin or chromium in various coating weights that is applied in continuous electrolytic operation.

General Application Areas Tinplate and Electrolytic Chromium Coated Steels are mainly used in packaging industry to manufacture industrial cans, 2-piece and 3-piece food cans, beverage cans, aerosols, twist-off caps and crown caps, easy-open lids, decorative packaging and non-packaging products such as electrical equipment and toys. They have a combination of advantages unrivalled in any other material; Non-toxic Light Easily fabricated into intricate shapes Weldability Corrosion resistant Attractive appearance Easily decorated by and printing Recyclability

Tinplate and Electrolytic Chromium Coated Steels are produced during the following production steps; Pickling: The steel is pickled to eliminate the iron oxide that forms on the strip during hot rolling process. Tandem Rolling: Strip is cold rolled to reduce its thickness. On this process the thickness of strip reduced without modifying the width. Cleaning: After cold rolling, the steel is covered with a thin film of oil that is removed by alkaline cleaning operation in order to optimize the annealing process. Annealing: The steel is heated in a reducing atmosphere to above the recrystallizaiton point then cooled. There are two types of annealing techniques; batch annealing (BA) and continuous annealing (CA).

Tempering: The strip is tempered to achieve the required level of hardness, the required surface condition, shape, formability, evenness and the required mechanical properties. Also secondary rolling that is required for the production of DR tinplate can be done in suitable temper line. Coating: In this operation the black plate is passed continuously through the operations of cleaning, electrolytic pickling, electro-deposition of tin or chromium, induction-melting for tinplate, passivation and oiling. The final product is tinplate or electrolytic chromium coated steel. ERDEMIRs tinplate is produced in two main types; Single Reduced (SR) and Double Reduced (DR) ERDEMIRs Electrolytic Chromium Coated Steel is produced mainly single reduced.

Single Reduced (SR): Steel strip reduced to desired thickness in one step by cold rolling in the cold mill and subsequently annealed and then coated. General application fields: (Depending on steel quality & annealing type) Industrial can body and bases, 2 and 3 pieces can body and bases, beverage cans, easy open lids, twist-off caps and crown caps, aerosols body, bases and tops. Double Reduced (DR): Steel strip has received a further cold rolling in which between 10-30 percent reduction is given after annealing. Thus the steel reaches its final thickness on two separate cold rolling. General application fields: (Depending on steel quality & annealing type) 2 and 3 pieces can body and bases, industrial can ends, easy-open lids, twistoff caps, and aerosol bodies.
