with glass walls. Steam them up and constantly rest against the glass surface, or use the surface to apply soap to your body. The trick is to show him that it wasnt an accident. Show him that you actually dont care who sees your nipples. Love, The Gay Lady and a bottle of two-buck chuck Dear Almost-Nip-Slip, First thing, probably give up showering in the dorms. Not just your dorm, but everywhere on campus. Nowhere is safe, because the same collision might happen again. You go to Lewis & Clark, so after taking this step, you should enjoy some improved social standing and respect from your peers. Next, I guessing hes not making eye contact because judging from the encounter you described, he wasnt exactly looking at your eyes. You should cover every inch of your skin, and to ensure you dont bring up that eye-opening experience every time you run into him, move into the woods. Again, thank me for managing your reputation so effectively at LC. AfterI dont knowmaybe a year of living in the wild, subsisting off berries and forgetting what your own skin looks like, return to civilization, where you wont find it that awkward to talk to him anymore because it will just be awkward to talk to humans. Awkward will become the new normal, which for people like us was already pretty awkward, so maybe we didnt accomplish anything in those last three paragraphs. No problemlets start a new one. Okay, I really dont have much to say here. This paragraph was supposed to give actual relationship advice, but I dont know what that looks like, so how about I find out for next week and get back to you? We should put a newsstand offering this paper for you in the middle of the untamed woods. Its the same process as distributing papers to Copeland anyway. Enjoy your vacation. A COLUMN FOCUSED ON ENVIRONMENTAL CONVERNS

BY LUCY ROBERTS to 118,284,466,000 for a generic car produced in America in 2008. The bicycle has served as a tool for empowerment throughout history. It puts the power of transportation in your own hands. No more waiting for the bus or relying on the oil industry for fossil fuels to power cars. Bicycling became popular in the 1890s, and it was in this Victorian era that bicycles acted as a tool for empowering women. The restrictive clothing of this era was not conducive to riding, so women started to don more comfortable, active forms of clothing in order to ride. This gave women the chance to become independent and get out of the house since it liberated women from depending on men to get around. The bicycle was such a powerful tool in this era that in 1896, Susan B. Anthony told the New YorkWorldsNellie Bly that bicycling had done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. Fortunately, Portland knows how to support bike riding. If you are riding to get from point A to point B, there are plenty of bike lanes and bike boulevards to assist in a safe journey. There is a plethora of bike-friendly bars and restaurants. Additionally, there are many wonderful bike shops and resources available. Free bike maps and route planning tools are available online from the Portland Bureau of Transportation. Lewis & Clark will soon implement a bike-sharing program for those of you wanting to rent a bike for a weekend joy ride. The LC Bike Coop also serves as a great on-campus resource for queries and will soon host classes. There is a lot going on! Remember to always wear your helmet, and happy riding.

Whether its the wind whipping through your helmet hair or the bike grease smeared across your face, nothing beats the feeling of a satisfying bicycle ride. Biking can serve as your main source of transportation or simply a stressrelieving recreational activity. Anytime you get on your bike, you are doing your body and your surrounding environment a favor. According to This Big City, a social networking organization that shares ideas and promotes discussion of sustainable cities, the production of a bicycle has a significantly smaller impact than a car. A 7.2 kg road bicycle with a carbon frame uses 11,546,658,000 joules of energy during its production, compared

BIKES ARE SEXY.

Dear Virgins, I ran into my crush in our bathroom dorm and I was in my robe. We both got really embarrassed and avoid eye contact now. Yet I still see him ALL the time. How can we move past this awkwardness? Sincerely, One-(almost)-nipslip-and-were-back-in-neutral Dear Almost-Nip-Slip, Now, if youre not comfortable with nip slipping, you should disregard my advice and probably do something like laugh it off or befriend him. There is a lesson you need to learn. I wish I could sit every eighth grader down in a row (including you) and tell them this: Its only awkward if you make it awkward. I wouldnt call your situation unfortunate because it was awkward. It was unfortunate because you missed an opportunity. You should have actually nip slipped. The only thing more universal than smiles or math is boobs. We all love boobs. It is time to show that Newfoundland Terrier named Pio (or Seamen, if you choose to be historically accurate) your ladies: Lewis and Clark. You see, it was only awkward because it was an unintentional (almost) nip slip. You now have to make it an intentional nip slip. Your options are: >Go all Reed College on his ass and strut to the bathroom naked. >Invite him to Figure Drawing and forget to mention youre the nude model. >Replace your shower dividers

A NEW WEEKLY COLUMN THAT WILL FEATURE SOME OF PDXS FAMOUS FOOD CARTS THAT MEET IMPORTANT CRITERIA FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

of Portland eateries. If youre wondering what Southwestern mud has to do with Thai food: Welcome to food carts. This column will be an exploration of the wonderful world of food cartsfree-standing carts that operate in Portlandspecifically, but also Portland eateries in general. While most food carts are absurdly cheap, there are those that make a college student despair; some of them are in exotically far locations, like Gresham; and some, quite frankly, are not quite as good as the others. I will nobly sacrifice myself to create a weekly column in the pursuit of food that meets three criteria: Price: Less than $10, including tip. And tax. (Ha!) Location: Easily accessible from Lewis & Clark without a car. This means less than 20 minutes from Pioneer Square as the bus flies. As awesome fooderies are usually in

It was a misty Portland afternoon, and I was learning about mud. Not any mud, mind. Special mud. Mud that would, if the man in the window was to be believed, add a couple of years to my life. I smiled and promised to check it out the next time I was in New Mexicomy home state, which had sparked the conversation. He reminded me about the most important landmark, a tree split in half by lightning with a cactus growing in the middle. Then he handed me my Pad Thai. (With tofu, medium hot.) It may not have been quite as delicious as the promise of eternal life, but it was pretty close. If youre nodding to yourself by now, congratulations! You are truly a veteran of the world

awesome parts of Portland, this is also a great chance to check out areas you havent been to yet. Deliciousness. While this naturally includes food carts, Im also going to visit some sit-down restaurants. (Sometimes I just dont want to sit alone in a park in the rain.) Since Im of the opinion that learning about the stories behind the food flavors the product just as much as maple or bacon, or even maple bacon, Ill also be chatting with the owners. I will then impart this knowledge to you! Welcome to Sassafras! Next week: waffles. Now go get that Pad Thai youve been craving since the beginning of the article. I recommend I Like Thai on 9th and SW Alder, or E-San on 8th and Alder or 3rd and SW Stark.

CLUB SPOTLIGHT: BUILDON

LEWIS & CLARKS BUILDON CHAPTER HAS GOOD INTENTIONS, NOW SEARCHING FOR FUNDS
world to team up with local communities in constructing schools. Sustainability is a number-one prioritythe country requesting the school must agree to consistently provide staff, supply the school and teach a balanced ratio of male and female students, achieved either through support from its own government or with the aid of other non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The LC buildOn club and its members have planned numerous events for this year, reaching out to everyone on campus and beyond. Each member must raise a certain amount of money toward construction costs and may also raise extra funds to cover airfare and housing expenses. The list of events includes a giant yard sale, raffles, bake sales, coin drives, informative tabling events and more. Most of these events will be held at LC, and some will be held around downtown Portland as well. Three of the clubs current officers are returning members who have already gone abroad to construct schools. Two summers ago, Co-Presidents Eve Ben Ezra (14) and Katherine Quaid (14) travelled with buildOn to Malawi in southeast Africa. It was actually the first time I had ever been abroad, and it was quite a shock to suddenly be in a place [where I was] sleeping under mosquito nets and without electricity or running water, Ezra said. But seeing how passionate all the villagers were about getting a school was really worth it. It was an amazing, lifechanging experience. More recently, club Vice President Mayadah Yahya (15) went school-building in Haiti over the summer. In Haiti, we met a community of dedicated people who persevered and sought the improvement of the next generation and of themselves through education, Yahya said. Im humbled and grateful to have had the opportunity to work alongside them, help them and have them help me. I cant ever say thank you enough to any of them. Their community is an inspiration and a home to me, and I want to congratulate them on finishing their school. The club has confidence that Summer 2014 in Nepal is well on its way to becoming equally eye-opening and rewarding. Interested in joining buildOn? Meetings are Tuesdays at 5 p.m. in Thayer, on the ground floor of Templeton. Students can always participate in future events and contribute to the buildOn cause. Look for flyers and online announcements to stay updated throughout the year.

Lewis & Clarks buildOn chapter has been traveling the world, making new friends and hosting engaging fundraisers for the entire LC community for years now. It is continuing their work in the upcoming months toward building a school in Nepal next summer. According to buildOns website, the international organization aims to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and low expectations through service and education. Specifically, buildOn works with nations in need of schools to bring volunteers from all over the
