STANDARD LAYERS
FAKESTUDIO
GRAPHIC DESIGN
Layers provide an easy way of keeping objects in a drawing separate from one another as well as defining default colors and linetypes. Though more specific layers can be defined, standard layers have been established and should be present in all drawings. Layer names should be written in UPPERCASE letters with an underscore separating each word.
In order to quickly locate layers, an underscore ( _ ) is added in front of these layers to set them apart from any other layers in the drawing. It should be noted that any custom layers should have two underscores ( __ ) in front to distinguish them from the standard layers. Whenever possible, custom layers should be kept to a minimum to reduce confusion.
DESCRIPTION Minor objects - gaskets, thermal breaks, etc. Major objects - extrusions, glazing, etc. Objects that appear in the distance Dimension lines and text Notes, leaders, section lines, titles, etc. Hatching

Lineweights provide a clear way of distinguishing objects within a drawing. For further distinction in complex drawings, solid fills with varied degrees of screening are used. The following table outlines the line weights and screening values associated with each color.
Regardless of the on-screen color, all lines should be plotted in Black. Butt and Joint styles should be set to Round. Adaptive Linetype should be turned on to ensure the proper display of non-continuous lines. Refer to the Linetype section for more information on adaptive linetypes.

LINETYPES
FAKESTUDIO
GRAPHIC DESIGN
Linetypes are used to convery different meanings in a drawing. The table below outlines some of the more commone uses of linetypes. This table should serve as a guide when choosing a linetype for a specific application. In most cases, the linetype scale should be set to 1.00. However, should this scale not provide adequate definition, the linetype scale can be increased or decreased to obtain the desired effect. Whatever the case, the scale should be such that the full pattern of the linetype is represented.
ADAPTIVE LINETYPES When plotting, Adaptive Linetype should be turned ON to ensure that each linetype is plotted in its entirety. This is especially important when dealing with non-continuous lines whose discontinuous section might otherwise fall at the endpoint of a line, thus making the line appear to end prematurely. This setting can be found as part of the Plot Style Table, and is turned ON by default in _ERTQ_WEIGHTS.CTB

The following standard text styles have been established to ensure clear readability of dimensions and notes. To distinguish company specific text styles, a prefix ( _ERTQ_ ) has been added at the beginning of each style name, with the name itself written in uppercase letters. Unlike layers, the use of custom text styles should be avoided. Five different text styles are available, differing only in text height These sizes reflect the text height when printed and should be maintained regardless of the scale of the drawings. The use of Annotative Scaling is the recommended method of maintaining the proper text height regardless of the drawing scale. Please refer to the section on Annotative Scaling for information regarding this AutoCAD feature.

DIMENSIONING GUIDELINES
FAKESTUDIO
GRAPHIC DESIGN
Consistent dimensioning practices are crucial to creating a clear, accurate drawing. The following are a few general guidelines to be used when dimensioning. 1. Dimensions should be spaced an appropriate distance away from the object they reference. Dimensions should be separated from each other by an appropriate space. Whenever space permits, dimensions should be kept in line with each other across an object as shown in this example. An overall dimension should always be included to alleviate the need for calculations. This dimension should be placed either directly above, below or adjacent to the smaller component dimensions.
5.
An arrowhead should be used to indicate a dimension which is broken by a section break. Abbreviations should be used to indicate generic dimensions. See section on abbreviations. Abbreviated dimensions should be kept aligned with one another. Dimensions within an object should have their extension lines turned OFF so as not to interfere with the line type/weight of the object.

In addition to these guidelines, the dimension style defined on the following page should be used in all drawings. This style makes use of Annotative Scaling. For more info on this AutoCAD feature, please see the section on annotative scaling.

LEADER GUIDELINES
FAKESTUDIO
GRAPHIC DESIGN
Leaders are used to identify objects within a drawing. As with dimensions, its important to follow a few guidelines to ensure a consistent presentation. 1. Leaders should always we left justified and aligned with each other. Maintain consistent leader angles throughout the drawing. Some leaders may have to be rearranged to accomplish this, but consistent angles yields a much more readable drawing. The transition from leader to landing gap should be aligned. To avoid cluttering the drawing, leaders should be kept in small groups. Make sure leaders do not interfere with the readability of dimensions or other important notations.
