The following prizes are awarded to Materials Science and Engineering students annually:

First Year Prizes


The Freshgate Trust Foundation Morgan Advanced Ceramics Ltd Sir Basil Blackwell Academic and personal promise at first year. Outstanding achievement in first year examination. Performance in first year examination.

Second Year Prizes


International Nickel Undergraduate students taking second year examinations for the Degree of MEng/BEng in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Performance in second year examination.

Sheffield Metallurgical and Engineering Association Hatfield Memorial Prize in Engineering Sheffield Metallurgical and Engineering Association Hatfield Memorial Prize in Metallurgy Guy Simpson Prizes in Glass Technology

Third Year Prizes


Nesthill Medal and Premium Walshaw Award Worshipful Company of Ironmongers Prizes in Metallurgy De Belin Prize in Metallography Frank Memorial and Prize Work on physical metallurgy. Performance in the subject of Metallurgy. Undergraduate students taking courses in Metallurgy within the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Third year students reading for the Degree of MEng/BEng in Metals or Materials Science and Engineering.

Holland (a) Bursary: undergraduate candidate whose work in Bursary ceramics shows sufficient promise to complete the programme of study for the Degree of BEng. (b) Prize: Written examination performance, reports written during works practice, notebooks of practical work, and reports of investigations submitted during third year. Armourers and Greatest distinction shown by a final year candidate. Brasiers Medal and Subject to the medal and premium not being awarded to a Premium candidate on the same degree programme as the nominee for the Mappin Medal. Mappin Medals and Premiums Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining Prize JRI Prize in Bioengineering Greatest distinction shown by Final Year candidates.
