1.1 Introduction Organizational studies involve careful study about how people inside the organization interact with one another and how they can be made better to communicate their concerns.. Basically it involves the study of individual as well as group interaction inside an organization. There are many factors that come into play when people interact with each other not just as individuals but as a team as well. So we can safely say that aim to understand these important factors and model on them. The reader can able to gain insight into various management styles, various types of communication used within an organization (such as using old or conventional methods, new methods using internet and emails), work ethics, cultural diversity, types of technology used and also politics, because no organization can work in the complete isolation as they are living in a global village. Organizational studies traces it roots to the advent of scientific management which aroused in the 1890s. The height of the scientific management movement was highlighted by Taylorism. After the First World War got over, it began to focus on how human interaction and psychology affects organizations. The Second World War led to a rationalistic approach in understanding organizational study. Today, organizational studies have become highly important because people from different backgrounds have to interact with one another. In the current scenario people from diverse cultures, backgrounds and even educational levels have come together to form a team. In fact, it is not uncommon to see people with different cultural and ethnic backgrounds interact with one another and can help to better understand human interaction in such situations.

1.2 Industrial profile An introduction to the packaged drinking water industry The domestic packaged water industry is highly fragmented and local with more than 1,000 players. The bottled water industry in India is regulated by Bureau of India Standards (BIS) by providing ISI mark. All Indian packaged water manufacturers have to mandatorily obtain the ISI mark from BIS for manufacturing and sale of packaged drinking water or natural mineral water. In India, there are two categories of packaged water as recognized by BIS: 1. Packaged natural mineral water (PNMW): This is regulated under IS: 13428 and is drawn from a natural source. It should meet the composition standard defined under IS: 13428 and must be bottled without altering the natural composition of water. Some brands under this category are, Evian, Qua, Himalayan, etc. 2. Packaged drinking water (PDW): This is regulated under IS: 14543 and is ordinary water treated to meet the regulatory standards. In this case, any of the processes of filtration/disinfection listed under the IS: 14543 can be used for changing the composition of water before bottling. Some popular brands are, Kinley, Aquafina, Bailey, etc. Major growth drivers Demand for packaged drinking water is being driven by

Higher disposable income Increased preference for hygiene Improved affordability Easier availability of packaged drinking water Shortage of safe drinking water

Major players While in the past, Bisleri virtually dominated the organized packaged drinking water industry, today it is competing against multiple local and international players. Some other major players in the branded packaged drinking water industry today are Parle (Bailey), Coca Cola (Kinley), PepsiCo India (Aquafina), Tata (Himalayan), etc.

Types of industry This kind of company are comes under the small scale industries. Water purification industry because it is a developing company. But they are going towards to the large level by their activity of their strategy. Each and every activity is governing by the central government because of the safety measure in the food production. Particularly it is sensitively governed by the FSSAI (Food Safety Standard authority of India) it is a bill of the government regarding to the safety through the food products. HISTORY OF MINERAL WATER The tradition of bottled water and mineral water is not very old. Even in western countries the practice of bottled drinking water started in 1950s. The trend of having mineral water gained grounds in the market. Since ancient time people have used water from mineral springs, especially hot springs, for bathing due to its supposed therapeutic value for rheumatism, arthritis, skin diseases, and various other ailments. Depending on the temperature of the water, the location, the a l t i t u d e , a n d the climate at the spring, it can be used to cure different ailments. T h i s started the trend of using mineral water for drinking purpose to exploit the therapeutic value of the water. This trend started gaining momentum in mid 1970s and since then large quantities of bottled water from mineral springs in France and other European countries are exported every year. The concept of bottled has been quite prevalent in western countries due to greater health consciousness and higher awareness about health and h y g i e n e . T h e i n t e r n a t i o n a l standards regarding bottled water are so stringent that for a particular brand of water to be c e r t i f i e d a s b o t t l e d w a t e r i t h a s t o 5

Benefits of the industry Water everywhere, not a CLEAN drop to drink! Who would have thought that there will be a day when sanitation of available water would be more of a concern than availability of water itself? Hygiene is of great concern to everyone today, and this is evident with the surging rise in the consumption of packaged/bottled water. India has 16 percent of the world's population, 2.5 percent of the land mass and 4 percent of the world's water resources. These limited water resources are depleting rapidly while the demands on them are increasing. Drinking water supplies in many parts of India are intermittent. Transmission and distribution networks for water are generally old and badly maintained, and as a result, are deteriorating. India is one of the biggest and most attractive water markets in the world. The boom time for Indian bottled water industry is to continue- more so because the economics are sound, the bottom line is fat and the Indian government hardly cares for what happens to the nation's water resources. Corporate control over water and water distribution in India is growing rapidly: the packaged water business is worth $250 million, and it's growing at a huge 40-50% annually. Around 1,200 bottling plants and 100 brands of packaged water across the country are battling over the market, overdrawing groundwater, and robbing local communities of their water resources and livelihoods. Most multinational (MNC) companies view India as the next big market with a lot of potential and growth possibility. Several MNCs are waiting in the wings to expand a $ 287 billion global water market into India. There is a huge market being exploited by the packaged water industry, and it's growing at 40% per annum. With over a thousand bottled water producers, the Indian bottled water industry is big by even international standards. There are more than 200 brands, nearly 80 per cent of which are local. Most of the small-scale producers sell non-branded products and serve small markets. In fact, making bottled water is today a cottage industry in the country. There is investment worthy mid-cap companies in this segment. From being confined to the uppermost echelons of society, packaged water has now become a commonplace commodity and almost a necessity in metros. After 6

witnessing historic growth in recent years, it has become an Rs 3,000-crore industry, one that is slated to only post healthy growth rates to become an Rs 10,000-crore business in just three years, the bulk water industry, or water in 12-, 20- and 25-litre packages, has also witnessed a parallel growth of Rs 700-1,000 crore. Basically, the market can be divided into two segments the retail consumer market where the pack sizes are 500 ml, one liter, 1.2/1.5/2-litre and five-liter, and the household and institutional market, where the pack size is usually are 20- or 25-litre. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the governing authority on all quality and production regulations related to natural mineral water as well as packaged drinking water. The all-India market for packaged water is between $145 million (Rs. 8 billion) and $21 million (Rs. 10 billion) and is growing at the rate of nearly 40 per cent per annum. Even though it accounts for only 5 percent of the total beverage market in India, branded bottled water is the fastest growing industry in the beverage sector. While the single largest share in the mineral water market might still belong to an Indian brand -- Parle's $52 million (Rs. 2.5 billion) Bisleri brand has a 40 percent share -- multinational corporations are not far behind. Nestle and Danone are vying to purchase Bisleri, and Pepsi's Aquafina and Coke's Kinley brands have been extremely successful in edging out many of the small and medium players to buy-outs and exclusive licensing deals. In less than two years since its launch, Aquafina has cornered 11 percent of the market and Kinley has almost a third of the market. News reports indicate that other MNCs like Unilever are also eying the market. DEMAND OF WATER WOULD NEVER GO DOWN & WATER WOULD NEVER BE OUT OF BUSINESS Types of industrial classification On the basis of the material used, the packaging industry can be broadly classified as: rigid and flexible. Rigid packaging involves the use of glass, tin, aluminum, wood and plastic. Flexible packaging involves the use of lightweight, durable and flexible materials like plastic films, paper and aluminum foils. In 2010, rigid packaging accounted for about 76 per cent of the total packaging industry and flexible packaging accounted for the balance.

Industry and market structure The Indian packaging industry is estimated to be about Rs 860 billion (2010). The industry is highly fragmented and local. This is a low-capital, technology-intensive business and hence attracts a large number of small players. It includes both organized large players (both Indian and international) having pan-India presence and unorganized small and medium size players with local presence. The organized segment typically caters to major FMCG and pharmaceutical companies who are conscious about quality and the ability to produce different types of packaging products enabling them to target a larger market. Flexible packaging is the largest segment contributing about 33 per cent of the total industry. Growth Drivers As the economy grows driven by increased industrial production and international trade, it generates demand for the packaging industry. Moreover, with increasing population, rising income levels, changing food habits and increased penetration of organized retail, preference for branded products is also expanding. Growing preference for branded foods is also a major catalyst for the growth of packaging industry. In addition, other factors like rise in the number of nuclear families, rural marketing and growth from end-user industries also fuel the packaging industrys demand growth. Industry Review & Outlook Indias packaging industry has grown at a healthy 15 per cent CAGR over the last 3 years. While rigid packaging has grown at a little over 14 per cent, flexible packaging has grown faster at approximately 17 per cent over the past 5 years. Recent trends show, flexible packaging is gaining share, owing to its better properties and advantages. Rural marketing, which promotes smaller sachets, is one of the key drivers of 8

flexible packaging. Additionally, 8-10 per cent of the flexible packaging products are exported. This kind of industries is able to bring more than 6 to 10% of increase in the GDP Policy initiatives In India our government is keep on stepping for the eliminating the plastic covers (pouch water packets) in order to provide goodness for the end users meanwhile eco & ozone friendly to the environment. The government and the companies are in the process to achieve the target to establishing the cushion to the health of the customers. The government is preparing for the new initiatives in this field because the 3 rd world war is going to taken place on account of the water scarcity. Thats why the government making a good focuses to this kind of the products. Future ahead This kind of companies activity are making the economy as a well being by creating a good GDP and the operation regarding to the filtration and purifications will make the good. Now the board related to the water purification companies is willing to innovating the new container instead of the water packet (pouch). As the economy grows driven by increased industrial production and international trade, it generates demand for the packaging industry. Moreover, with increasing population, rising income levels, changing food habits and increased penetration of organized retail, preference for branded products is also expanding.
