combine their strokes, fitness, speed, mental agility and physical power to build up strategies which would lead to everything firing together, to eventually win matches. It was a first for the Development Camps to be having this kind of a session, which was very well received by players and accompanying coaches alike.
The players learnt not only about on court techniques, but also about what it takes mentally to be fit and last the entire match. Towards this they were mentally trained by camp coach C J Colburn in match preparation and player psychology.
The training was mixed up for specific type of match plays, teaching techniques on how to switch from synthetic to clay court. The players were taught how to adjust their games while going in for tournaments played on clay, while they practice on synthetic all the time.
The ATC staff hopes that all the players took back some important lessons from the camp and would keep on working on their techniques and strategies learnt during their stay in ATC.
ITF, in conjunction with the ATF, organized the day training camp, preceding the ITF West Asia 13 & Under 13&Under Development Championships, on Sep 17th at Automobile & Touring Club, Jounieh, Lebanon. Q. Your impeccable backhand has even got appreciation from ATP World No. 3 David Ferrers coach. Can you recount that memorable day in Valencia? Did you get to interact with Ferrer himself? Ankita: Yess! I remember that day perfectly. I was practising with a Spanish guy that day and we were hitting backhand crosscourts. Next moment I saw Ferrer and his coach entering my court and watching me play. I remember they were walking towards the net but they were still looking at me and then they stopped and watched me play for a while. Later, when Ferrers coach was passing by, he told me that I have a really good backhand, like the top players, and that its not difficult to get there. And this was in August 2011. Q. Whats next on your schedule? Ankita: I am playing a few tournaments in Europe and then would try to get an entry in Tashkent and China WTA.
Q. The same weekend you won at New Delhi, the all-Indian pair of Divij Sharan and Purav Raja made great news in Colombia by winning their first ever doubles ATP Tour title together. It must

Key Messages
The aim of the Tennis Play and Stay campaign is to address these issues, promoting the game as easy, fun and healthy, through 5 key messages:
Tennis is easy
a feeling that tennis is a difficult game to play for starter players, because courts are too big and balls are too fast and bounce
when coaches use the slower Red, Orange and Green balls
Tennis is fun

when starter players serve, rally and score from the first lesson
everyone who can serve, rally and score should have a rating

Tennis is healthy
The campaign has proven very successful with 160+ nations introducing programs using slower balls and smaller courts or adopting Tennis Play and Stay as their national participation program. During the intervening period since 2007, the campaign has also seen the launch of Tennis10s in 2009 and a significant change within the ITF Rules of Tennis. The Rule Change in which the standard Yellow ball was eliminated for 10-andunder competition, was unanimously approved by the ITF AGM in 2010 and came into full effect in January 2012.
