Tagaban Jillian Navarro EDR 210 Study Skills There has been an immense expectation for young learners to develop a variety of skills in order to become independent learners, capable of directing their own study and able to critically evaluate information from many sources. The learners skills in critical thinking must be developed as well as their skills in personal organization; information retrieval and interpretation have to be nurtured. Therefore, the development of effective Study Skills has become an increasingly important feature of the education landscape as the trend towards self-directed, independent learning has gathered pace. Within this context, where young learners have a world of information at their fingertips, the teachers role is increasingly seen as that of a guide on the side rather than a sage on the stage.

I. Definition of Study Skills Study Skills Study Skills are strategies and methods of purposeful learning, usually centered around reading and writing. Effective study skills are considered essential for students to acquire good grades in school, and are useful in general to improve learning throughout one's life, in support of career and other interests.
