Plastic surgery improves health 1. Beneficial for treating health problems

Nose job: Xiaolian, 22, damaged his nose in a traffic accident in August 2012. The man had the treatment at a hospital in Fuzhou, Fujian province to create a replacement for his original nose which was infected and deformed. Surgeons were unable to repair it so they created a new nose sculpted from cartilage taken from his ribs on his forehead. The procedure has helped Xiaolian to stay alive and live normally. Surgeons are hoping to carry out transplant surgery to put it in place of his old nose soon.

Wilkinson, 62, a buildings maintenance engineer and gardener from Northamptonshire, was one of the first in the UK to benefit from a new way of doing hip replacement surgery. Having worked in the construction industry all his life, in his retiring age, Mr. Wilkinson found out that he was suffering from osteoarthritis. He couldn't face any surgery, so he started Pilates to strengthen the muscles supporting the hip, but it didnt work, so he went to a doctor for a hip replacement. After the surgery, the pain in both hips has gone, and he can walk normally again.

2. Mental illnesses:

Although many people feel dissatisfied with some aspect of their appearance, these concerns usually don't constantly occupy their thoughts or cause them to feel tormented. But for some people, concerns about appearance become quite extreme and upsetting. These people usually feel ashamed and keep their concerns secret. They frequently spend a great deal of time thoughout the day checking their appearance in the mirrors or windows. People with mild symptoms hide from others and avoid going places, even drop school or quit their job because of fear of being seen, while people with severe symptoms may develop anxiety, depression and may even consider or attempt suicide. http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_mind/body_image/body_image_problem.html#
