Third Quarter 2013 Report

Executive Summary
Overview USD190.8bn of deals tracked in Q3 2013, a large increase from USD23.0bn in Q3 2012. 986 deals tracked from public sources in Q3 2013, down 27% from 1248 in Q3 2012. Average deal value for investments has increased slightly to USD13.3m in Q3 2013, up 26.7% from USD10.5m in Q3 2012. Average deal value for acquisitions has increased dramatically from USD253.1m in Q3 2012 to USD6.7bn in Q3 2013. Deals by region: North America leads all regions with an average deal value of USD321.7m. Asia/Pacific comes in second at USD94m. North Americas large lead is a result of a few large acquisitions within the region. North America recorded USD178.5bn in deals, or 94% out of the USD190.8bn recorded for all regions. Average deal values have increased in all regions except for the Rest of World region. Despite the large acquisitions in North America, Asia/Pacific leads the world for the average deal value of investments at USD30.4m.

Deals by sector: The number of deals have fallen in all sectors except for the Transactions sector, where the number of deals has increased by 22.6% from Q3 2012. The number of acquisitions have fallen across all sectors in Q3 2013 from Q3 2012. The average deal value and total deal value in the Hardware & Infrastructure sector has increased by 4635.7% and 3113.5% respectively from Q3 2012. The Games sector has seen a slump in both the total number of deals and total value of deals dropping 69.4% and 90.0% respectively from Q3 2012
