WhenmatchedagainstRickWeiland(theonlyannouncedDemocraticcandidateforU.S. Senate)MikeRoundsleads50.2to34.8percent,with15.0percentundecided.Theracehas narrowedsincetheJuneNBPsurveywhichhadRoundsahead54.3to27.1percent.

Democraticsupport,inparticular,risesforWeilandinthisOctobersurvey. RoundsholdsasizableadvantageoverotherannouncedchallengersfortheRepublican nomination.RepublicanprimaryvotersgiveRounds46.1percentsupport,followedbyStace Nelson(10.4percent),LarryRhoden(3.9),andAnnetteBosworth(2.7).Overathirdof Republicanprimaryvoters(37.0percent)remainundecided. NBPalsomatchesRickWeilandagainstBrendanJohnsonandSteveJarding,twoother potentialDemocraticcandidates,inahypotheticalprimarycontest.AmonglikelyDemocratic primaryvoters,Johnsonleadswith30.7percentsupport,followedbyWeilandwith10.1percent, andJardingwith6.6percent.Amajority(52.7percent)ofDemocraticrespondentsare undecided.FindingsfromtheJuneNBPsurveyindicatedthatnamerecognitionwouldbea challengeforWeiland.HalfofrespondentsinJunedidnotknowWeilandsnamecomparedto 31percentwhodidnotknowJohnson(U.S.AttorneyforSouthDakotaandsonofretiring SenatorTimJohnson)and8percentwhodidnotknowRounds(formerSouthDakota Governor). WeilanddoesbettermatchedagainsttheotherpotentialRepublicancandidates.While Weilandssupporthoversjustover35percent(rangingbetween35.6and37.6),supportforthe RepublicancandidatesdipsconsiderablycomparedtoRounds,asundecidedsrisesharply. StaceNelsonreceives34.5percentsupportagainstWeilands35.6percentwith29.9 undecided.LarryRhodengarners32.3percentcomparedto36.5forWeilandwith31.3percent undecided.AnnetteBosworthreceivestheleastsupportoftheRepublicanSenatecandidates with32.5percentto37.6forWeilandand29.9percentundecided.ThestrongRepublican backingforRounds(73.3percent)dropsto55percentorbelowforthesecandidateswith

movementlargelytowardundecided. WhenaskedaboutRepresentativeKristiNoem,52.0percentofrespondentssaytheyapproveof herjobperformance,and48.0percentdisapprove.The52.0percentapprovalisa4.2percent dropfrom56.2percentintheJuneNBPsurvey.Stronglyapproveresponsesfallby3percent fromJune(26.7to23.7),andstronglydisapproveresponsesriseby6.5percent(from26.8in Juneto33.3).WhenaskedwhetherNoemdeservestobereelected,39.2percentsayyes. 45.9percentsayno,with14.9percentundecided.Thenoresponsesinclude80.6percent ofselfidentifiedLiberalsbutalso64.9percentofselfidentifiedModerates.Ideologically, respondentsselfidentifiedasfollowsinthisNBPpoll:TeaParty15.8percent,Conservative 33.7percent,Moderate32.4percent,andLiberal18.1percent.
