Democraticsupport,inparticular,risesforWeilandinthisOctobersurvey. RoundsholdsasizableadvantageoverotherannouncedchallengersfortheRepublican nomination.RepublicanprimaryvotersgiveRounds46.1percentsupport,followedbyStace Nelson(10.4percent),LarryRhoden(3.9),andAnnetteBosworth(2.7).Overathirdof Republicanprimaryvoters(37.0percent)remainundecided. NBPalsomatchesRickWeilandagainstBrendanJohnsonandSteveJarding,twoother potentialDemocraticcandidates,inahypotheticalprimarycontest.AmonglikelyDemocratic primaryvoters,Johnsonleadswith30.7percentsupport,followedbyWeilandwith10.1percent, andJardingwith6.6percent.Amajority(52.7percent)ofDemocraticrespondentsare undecided.FindingsfromtheJuneNBPsurveyindicatedthatnamerecognitionwouldbea challengeforWeiland.HalfofrespondentsinJunedidnotknowWeilandsnamecomparedto 31percentwhodidnotknowJohnson(U.S.AttorneyforSouthDakotaandsonofretiring SenatorTimJohnson)and8percentwhodidnotknowRounds(formerSouthDakota Governor). WeilanddoesbettermatchedagainsttheotherpotentialRepublicancandidates.While Weilandssupporthoversjustover35percent(rangingbetween35.6and37.6),supportforthe RepublicancandidatesdipsconsiderablycomparedtoRounds,asundecidedsrisesharply.
