Sue Blechl, Emporia Public Library To be given to an individual or institution in recognition of exemplary leadership or support for growth and development of the Kansas Library Association and/or a library or libraries in Kansas. Such leadership and support may be, for example, in areas of library-related legislation, media coverage, or in writings which further the understanding and appreciation of Kansas and its libraries.

Caleb May, Meade Public Library To be given to a Kansas Library Association member who, within the first five years after having earned a professional degree, has made a positive impact on the quality of library service and/or the role of library personnel in Kansas.

Charlene McGuire, SWKLS To be given to a Kansas Library Association member, either individual or institution, who has made notable contributions to the library profession, furthered significant development of libraries in Kansas, or performed exemplary service for an extended period of time. Kinsley Library The Best Small Library Award was created by regional library consultants, in conjunction with the Kansas Library Association, to recognize creative and excellent library service, program or activity in a service community of less than 5,000.

FoKL Award Duane Johnson Library Leadership Award


Roger Carswell Roger Carswell is Director of the Southeast Kansas Library System and the Iola Public Library, positions he has held for the past 21 years. He has been active in the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Kansas Library Association during most of that period, including serving three years as chair or co-chair. He was on the inaugural Kansas Notable Books Committee in 2006 and served as chair of the committee during the following two years. Carswell served as KLA president in 1997-98. As one of his last acts in that position, he appointed a committee to plan the KLA centennial celebration in 2000 and served actively on that committee.
