1. Do you think that hands-on activity is important for primary students? Why?

How often do you conduct the activity?

Respondent 1:

Respondent 2: Yes. Hands-on activity brings numerous benefits for primary students such as to learn new science concepts, to discover and explore problems and solutions. Students will enjoy learning while conducting the activities themselves and thus become more open-minded as well as boosting teaming skills for group activities. Hands-on activities such as experiments for types of reproductive of vegetables, electrical circuits and basic needs of plants are usually conducted by primary four, five and six students. Other activities for primary one, two and three include colouring, playing puzzles, and showing models for them. These activities will be conducted according to the syllabus and apparatus and materials that are available in science laboratory. Students who are involved in labs and activities are empowered in their own learning process.

2. How do you manage your time wisely to make sure the syllabus has been taught completely? Any extra knowledge is imparted?

Respondent 2: I have prepared a well-designed timetable to complete the topics covered in the syllabus distributed by the Education Ministry. A timetable helps to manage my time effectively and also allow the students to prepare themselves for what happens next. Class replacement or extra class will be held if the syllabus has not taught completely in class. It is used to impart extra knowledge in every elite class for primary four, five and six by doing extra workbooks. Other students will do exercise and some worksheets given by teachers.

3. Suggest ways to make sure every student with different learning abilities in a classroom to crop with Teaching & Learning Process (T&L)? Respondent 2: Students from primary one, two and three are seated in a group of eight. There is always at least one or two smart student in every group. Smart students can help weak students to crop with Teaching and Learning process in class. Besides, I will ask some weak students to stay back after school to attend extra class to do extra input for them. By doing so, students will understand deeply of the topics to be taught. Teachers guidance is a need for every student. I will guide and examine students workbook frequently to ensure that every student able to crop with T&L process. 4. What are the useful ways to attract students attention in science classroom? Respondent 2: Before teaching a new topic, I will provide students of some latest news about the topic to be taught. Example like topic volcano, I will collect latest news about volcano that happens recently or get other information from National Geography. Other than that, I will teach the topic by using information and communications technology (ICT) such as video shows and presentation of topics in Microsoft Power Point. In this way, students will pay full attention throughout the science periods instead of getting bored easily. 5. Is language plays an important role in teaching science? Which language is preferred, English or Malay? Language plays an important role as it is a part of students learning in science. Students will understand easily 6. What are the characteristics of constructivist teaching in science? 7. What are the characteristics of constructivist teaching roles? 8. What factors affect how well a child learns science? 9. What type of science experiences should occur in the classroom?
