ADMISSION POLICY and arrangements for admission for September 2015/16 1) Christ the King is a Catholic primary school

situated in the Diocese of Lancaster and maintained by Blackpool Local Authority. Christ the King is a Catholic Primary School in which the Catholic faith and the teachings of the Catholic Church are important aspects of school life and influence the school curriculum. The Governors welcome applications from Catholic and non-Catholic parents who would like their children educated within the aims and ethos of Christ the King as a Catholic Primary School. 2) The Governing Body is responsible for admissions within the requirements of the law. In doing so, the Governing Body has a regard for: (a) the advice of the Diocesan Trustees on the nature and purpose of Catholic schools; (b) the Governing Bodys responsibility towards the school and the Catholic community it serves; (c) the Catholic character of the school and its Mission Statement. As required by the Education and Inspection Act 2006 and the Education (Admission of Looked After Children) (England) Regulations 2006, Christ the King Catholic Primary School gives the highest priority to Children Looked After. A Child Looked After is a child in care of a Local Authority or provided with accommodation by the Authority (as defined in Section 22 of the Childrens Act 1989) at the time of application and allocation. This definition has been extended to include adopted children who were previously in the care of the local authority or provided with accommodation by that authority as defined in Section 22 of the Children Act 1989. As required by law, all children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs naming the school will automatically be admitted. 3) The Governing Body has set the planned admissions number for 2015/16 at 30. The Local Authority and other parties required by law have been advised of this. Children will be admitted in the following order: 1. Catholic* children who are in the care of the Local Authority or provided with accommodation by that authority as defined in Section 22 of the Children Act 1989. 2. Catholic children who are resident in the parish of Christ the King on the closing date for applications. 3. Catholic children who are residing elsewhere. 4. Other Children who are in the care of the Local Authority or provided with accommodation by that authority as defined in Section 22 of the Children Act 1989. 5. Children of staff employed by the Governors of St. Marys Catholic College & Christ the King Catholic Primary School for two or more years or who have been recruited to meet a particular skills shortage. 6. Children with a sibling(s)* already attending the school at the time of entry into the Reception Class and who are baptised in another Christian denomination. 7. Children with a sibling(s) already attending the school at the time of entry into the Reception Class and who are not of the Christian faith. 8. Other children who are baptised in another Christian denomination who are on roll at the Nursery Class at the school on the closing day for applications. 9. Other children who are on roll at the Nursery Class at the school on the closing day for applications and who are not of the Christian faith. At all stages prior to the completion of the application form it will be made clear to parents that attendance at the nursery unit of Christ the King does not guarantee that a child will be admitted to Reception Class of the main school. 10. Other children - If the number of children in any of the categories 1-9 is greater than the places available, applications will be further ranked as follows: Children living nearest the school as measured in a straight line distance from the Local Land and Property Gazateer (LLGP*) address point of the applicants home address and of the school. * The LLGP is a point within the boundary of the property and is usually located at its centre. Distances are measured using the Councils Geographic Information System.

Waiting List A Waiting List for children who have not been offered a place will be kept and will be ranked according to the Admissions Criteria. Parents may contact the school to ascertain their childs position on the waiting list. This list wil l operate until the end of the Autumn term. Parents should note that submitting a late application could reduce their chance of gaining a place at your preferred school. Where there are extenuating circumstances for an application being received after the last date for applications, and it is received before the governors have established their list of pupils to be admitted, then it will be considered alongside all the others. Otherwise, applications, which are received after the last date, will be considered after all the others, and placed on the waiting list in order according to the criteria. Sarah, Please see Diocesan Advice for September 2015 page 14, para (d) and para 2.15(g) of the Admissions Code 2012 relating to the position of twins/multiple births Multiple Births

Where there are twins or multiple birth children wanting admission and there is only one single place left within the admission number, then the Governing Body will exercise as much flexibility as possible within the requirements of infant class sizes. In exceptional circumstances we are now able to offer places for both twins and all triplets even when this means breaching infant class size limits. This may also apply to children who are siblings within the same year group.
Accepting School Place Any Reception child that has been offered a place and fails to attend school to accept the place, within the first two weeks of the school term in September, risks forfeiting their place. Within these exceptional circumstances after an initial two week period they will then be written to and offered a further two weeks in which to begin school. Should they fail to attend school in this time then they will forfeit their place and it may be offered to another child, if there is a waiting list. *NOTES/GUIDANCE/EXPLANATORY NOTES

3 The address or the childs permanent place of residence will be determined as the address of the paren t who normally has responsibility for the majority of school days in a week at the time of application. If the address changes subsequently, the parents should notify the school. If you are moving house and applying for the school and it is not oversubscribed, using your new address may not be a problem. In the event of oversubscription it may be possible to consider your application on the basis of an address you are intending to move to. You must be resident at a specific address and not just have a stated intention to move to an area. You must provide evidence that you have exchanged contracts on a house or have an offer of a tenancy on a property in which you intend to live and which will be in place when your child would start at the school. This evidence must be submitted as soon as possible and no later than the closing date stated by Blackpool Local Authority, as part of the common admission process. Further evidence, e.g. utility bills, may also need to be submitted. Fraudulent Applications Where the Governing Body discovers that a child has been awarded a place as a result of an intentionally misleading application from a parent, for example, where a false address has been provided, then the Governing Body is required to withdraw the offer of a place. The application will then be considered afresh and a right of appeal offered if a place is refused.
