Avl fuel mass flow meter 1.

3installation on the test bed In this it is essential to refer to the following sections : section 2.3.1 general installation guidelines section 2.3.2 precautions for fire and explosion prevention Due to the weight, the position of the center of gravity of the device and the sharp-edged housing take care not to get injured during installation The avl fuel mass flow meter can be set up on the test bed in several ways: permanent wall-mounting (recommended). mobile with trolley in all cases it can be set up as a standalone or used in conjunction with the AVL fuel temperature control. whatever mounting method is used, the AVL fuel mass flow meter must be mounted in such a way as to minimize vibration. Mounting on a solid wall is recommended. ensure that the mounting place (wall) can hold the weight of the device! for solid (wall) mounting in a test bed, be sure to provide around 400mm of clearance to the left and right of the mounting bracket after mounting, the AVL fuel mass flow meter must be set level with the built-in box level. it is therefore important to ensure that the bracket is mounted as level as possible. for mounting you must remove the mounting bracket from the device as follows: remove the main door of the device by unscrewing the two joints of the hinges.

remove the transport lock of the sensor. loosen both pairs of fixing screws ( 1 and 2) at the top and bottom of the device respectively. 1... upper mounting bracket fixing screw 2... lower mounting bracket fixing screw fig, 1 fixing screws now lift the device from the mounting bracket to aid mounting, the AVL fuel mass flow meter has two M10 threaded holes, into which eye screws can be fitted. components, hoses or pipes in the AVL fuel mass flow meter may not be used for lifting the device, since damage might occur. 1.3.1 combination of the AVL fuel mass flow meter and AVL temperature control 1... AVL fuel mass flow meter bracket 2... AVL fuel temperature control bracket 3... floor A-E... AVL fuel temperature control bracket mounting holes (A,B and D for wall mounting, A,B,C and E for trolley mounting) all mounting holes to suit 10 mm screws fig. 2 space requirement of the control bracket of the AVL fuel mass flow meter and the AVL fuel temperature control the AVL fuel mass flow meter and AVL fuel temperature control device must be mounted with vertical separation of 55 mm all mounting holes to suit 10 mm screws fig. 3 space requirement of the control bracket of the AVL fuel mass flow meter 1.3.3 trolley mounting

if the AVL fuel mass flow meter ( also in combination with the AVL fuel temperature control) is not to be solidly mounted but rather used on a trolley, observe the following: the trolley and device together require a floor space of 850x770 mm. the height is 1990 mm. the trolley must always only be positioned on surfaces free of vibration! note that, with the device mounted on the optional trolley, the system may fall over if so transported! fix the mounting bracket to the holes provided in the trolley using the mounting kit included. 1.3.4 fixing the device to the mounting bracket components, hoses or pipes in the AVL fuel mass flow meter may not be used for lifting the device, since damage might occur. lift the device into the mounting bracket fix the device back onto the mounting bracket using the previously loosened cap screws. 1.3.5 levelling the AVL fuel mass flow meter for proper calibration of the avl fuel mass flow meter, the device must be levelled using the box level built into the tank block. A device that has not been adequately levelled may deliver incorrect measurements during calibration or accuracy checks. 1... box level 2... pressure reservoir 3... adjustment screws fig.4 lebelling the system the box level is located on the right of the pressure reservoir

used the adjustments screws (see fig. 4), to level the system. 1.4 fluid / pneumatic connections 1.4.1 fluid connection a device must be installed that wall interrupt the fuel supply in the event of failure. if there is no suitable mechanism on the test bed, the shut-off valve option must be used. a fuel filter must always be fitted in the supply line to the device! observe also the relevant instructions in section 2.3.1 general installation guidelines 1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.compressed air fuel drainage fuel feed ( argus union with 60 taper) venting, overflow (3/8 internal thread) fuel return ( argus union with 60 taper) fuel main supply (3/8 internal thread) internal compressed air supply line cable port

fig. 5 fluid connection, compressed air connection fuel main supply Take care to provide enough minimum pressure of the fuel supply. from the table below you can get some approximate values of the filling rate at different pressure levels. the filling rate should exceed the maximum flow rate at least with a value of 25 l/h. the pressure levels listed below were measured with diesel at a temperature of ~ 25C with filling valve opened. pressure with filling valve opened (mbar) 50 100 150 filling rate (l/h) 80 135 165

a safety shut-off valve with zero-current closing must be fitted between the supply tank and the AVL fuel mass flow meter (see section 1.5.7) fitting the safety shut-off valve rigidly to the test bed pipe work by means of union nuts or Schott connectors (1/2" internal thread ) pay attention to the flow direction and length of the attached fuel hose. screw the fuel hose to the fuel main supply connection fit the compressed air supply for the safety shut-off valve, using one of two methods: -external compressed air supply: 3.5... 10 bar, filtered and lubricated -internal compressed air supply of the AVL fuel mass flow meter cut the internal compressed air supply just after the connecting union (see fig. 5, pos. 7) fit the supplied T piece at this position . run the compressed air line through the cable port on the base of the device (see fig. 5 pos. 8) and connect to the T piece . connect the safety shut-off valve plug to socket X1. Fuel drainage if the installation location has a fuel drain line available, connect this to the manually operated ball cock fitted to the connection marked fuel drain. in the event of draining the device, its entire fuel contents (approx. 2 litter ) will be released into this line. if you have selected the option automatic draining on an automatic control system, proceed as follows: remove the ball cock attached to the fuel draining connection

fit the electro-magnetic valve in place of the hand-operated ball-cock and connect the test-bed fuel drain line to the electro-magnetic valve outlet. make the electrical connections between the electro-magnetic valve and the automation system (24V, 0.5 A) refer to the flow scheme on page for the control of the automatic an draining routine. Venting, overflow under adverse circumstance, it is possible that fuel may escape from the internal tank. this fuel will be collected by the collecting vessel, with os installed within the device if it is a fuel mass flow meter for combination with a conditioning unit. in case of a fuel mass flow meter for engines without return line you have to install the collecting vessel nearby the device separately. In any case the venting line of the device or of the collecting basin(the line with the bow) have to be connected to the venting line of your test bed. in case of an overflow, open the pet cock to drain the collecting vessel . ensure that the venting / overflow port is also connected to the waste fuel drainage system under all circumstances in dependence of the construction of your fuel exhaust line it can be necessary to install a flame filter to prevent flame propagation. fuel supply connect this outlet by means of the included hose to the AVL fuel temperature control connection marked fuel to engine . fuel return connect this outlet by means of the included hose to the AVL fuel temperature control connection marked fuel from engine . stand-alone installation of the AVL fuel mass flow meter

fuel supply connect this outlet with the engine supply line fuel return connect this outlet with the engine return line refer to section 2.3.3 application for schematic's for different applications 1.5 electrical connection 1.5.1 power supply operation voltage: 24V DC +5% current consumption max 8 A for power supply, either use the optional power supply or another power supply unit with safe mains isolation that meets the specification above. additionally there has to be installed an electromechanical device, witch disconnects the main power supply of the AVL mass flow meter in the event of an emergency stop. the emergency-shutdown device must meet the requirements of redundant realisation of security circuits. the installation of the main power supply of the AVL fuel mass flow meter have to be routed over a electromechanical device (in accordance to EN60204-1), which switches off the power in the event of an emergency stop. when switching off the power supply of the AVL fuel mass Flow meter by an emergency stop be sure to maintain compressed air supply for a short time (delay) .
