PAYMENTS You must pay your tax bill by March 31 (first half tax payment) or September 15 (second half tax payment) at any D.C. branch of Wells Fargo Bank (formerly Wachovia ) or mail your payment to the GOVERNMENT OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, OFFICE OF THE CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER, OFFICE OF TAX AND REVENUE, P.O. BOX 98095, WASHINGTON, DC 20090-8095. Please make your check or money order payable to the D.C. Treasurer. To ensure that your payment is recorded accurately, write your square, suffix and lot numbers on your check or money order. All real property tax payments must be accompanied by the payment coupon attached to the bill. Failure to do so may cause a delay in the processing of your payment. You can find your square, suffix and lot number in the top portion of this tax bill. A $65 fine will be imposed if your bank dishonors your check. If you have a balance due on your real property tax account, you may use our online eCheck system to pay your tax bill. Click on Real Property Service Center; Click on Bill payment (eCheck); Click on Real Property Assessment Database; Enter the Square, Suffix and Lot numbers of your property (always enter 4 digits in a field, e.g. for Square 555, Lot 1, enter "0555" in the "Square" field, nothing in the "Suffix" field, and "0001" in the "Lot" field; Click on the blue-underlined Square, Suffix and Lot real property ID number of your property to retrieve your account information; Click on View Tax Information (at the bottom of the page); and Click on Pay My Property Tax Online.

BILL INQUIRIES If you believe that your tax bill is incorrect: 1) verify that your property is in the proper tax class (e.g. Class 1 is occupied-residential) and that you are receiving the appropriate Homestead and Senior Citizen or Disabled Property Owner Tax Relief; and 2) to avoid penalty and interest charges, please pay the entire tax bill by the due date. If after verification you continue to believe that your tax bill is incorrect, please write a detailed explanation stating specifically why you disagree with the tax bill . If you are currently receiving the homestead deduction, but you are not domiciled in the District or the property which is the subject of this tax bill is not your principal place of residence, you must complete the cancellation form within 30 days of change. If your household s federal adjusted gross income is $100,000 or more and you are receiving the senior citizen or disabled tax relief, you must cancel the tax relief within 30 days of change. MORTGAGE COMPANY INFORMATION If a mortgage company message is listed on the front of this tax bill, the mortgage company has requested your tax bill. If you did not ask your mortgage company to pay your tax bill, or if you are not completely sure that it will pay, contact your mortgage company. If you are paying the tax bill instead of your mortgage company, send the lower portion of this tax bill with your payment. PENALTY AND INTEREST CHARGES The law provides that if your real property tax is not paid in full by the due date on the tax bill, the Office of Tax and Revenue must charge a penalty equal to 10 percent of the delinquent tax and interest on the delinquent tax at a rate of 1.5 percent per month (or part thereof) until paid. TAX SALES Properties delinquent in the payment of a real property or BID tax, special or nuisance assessment, water bill or public space rental charge may be sold at tax sale.
