Holy Communion and the Baptism of Harry Alec Hales

We stand to sing CP 165 Christ is the King? O friends rejoice; brothers and sisters with one voice tell all the world he is your choice. Alleluia. O magnify the Lord, and raise anthems of joy and holy praise for Christ's brave saints of ancient days. Alleluia. They with a faith for ever new followed the King, and round him drew thousands of faithful hearts and true. Alleluia. O Christian women, Christian men, all the world over, seek again the Way disciples followed then. Alleluia. Christ through all ages is the same: place the same hope in his great name, with the same faith his word proclaim. Alleluia. Let loves unconquerable might your scattered companies unite in service to the Lord of light. Alleluia. So shall Gods will on earth be done, new lamps be lit, new tasks begun, and the whole church at last be one. Alleluia. The Lord be with you and also with you

We rejoice today with the family and friends of Harry Alec as he comes for Baptism. Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which clings so closely, looking to Jesus in penitence and faith. Lord, you are gracious and compassionate: Lord, have mercy Lord, have mercy. Lord, you are loving to all and your mercy is over all your creation: Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Your faithful servants bless your name and speak of the glory of your kingdom: Lord, have mercy Lord, have mercy. Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy on you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. COLLECT, prayer for the day God of holiness, your glory is proclaimed in every age: as we rejoice in the faith of your saints, inspire us to follow their example with boldness and joy; through Jesus Christ our LordAmen. We sit for The First Reading from Daniel 7.1-3,15-18 In the first year of King Belshazzar of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions of his head as he lay in bed. Then he wrote down the dream: 2I, Daniel, saw in my vision by night the four winds of heaven stirring up the great sea, 3and four great beasts came up out of the sea, different from one another.
1

As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being coming with the clouds of heaven. And he came to the Ancient One and was presented before him. 14 To him was given dominion and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingship is one that shall never be destroyed.

This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God We stand and sing as the Gospel Book is brought to the people. All turn to face the centre of church. Rejoice in God's saints, today and all days! A world without saints forgets how to praise. Their faith in acquiring the habit of prayer, their depth of adoring, Lord, help us to share. Some march with events, to turn them God's way; some need to withdraw, the better to pray; some carry the gospel through fire and through flood: our world is their parish: their purpose is God. Hear the GOSPEL of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke Then Jesus looked up at his disciples and said: Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. 22Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man. 23 Rejoice on that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets. 24But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. 25Woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep. 26Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors did to the false prophets. 27But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to
20

those who hate you, 28bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. 29If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. 30 Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. 31Do to others as you would have them do to you. At the end the reader says This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you O Christ Rejoice in those saints, unpraised and unknown, who bear someone's cross, or shoulder their own: they shame our complaining, our comforts, our cares: what patience in caring, what courage is theirs! Rejoice in God's saints, today and all days! A world without saints forgets how to praise. in loving, in living, they prove it is true: The way of self-giving, Lord, leads us to you. We sit for the ADDRESS THE PRESENTATION The baptism party is invited to come forward Faith is Gods gift. In baptism God is adding to our number those whom he is calling. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is the Lord, Jesus is the Lord God Almighty. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is the Lord, Jesus is the Lord God Almighty. Who was and is and is to come, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is the Lord. PRAYER OVER THE WATER Praise the God of all creation who keeps his promise for ever We thank you for the gift of water to sustain, refresh and cleanse all life. Over the water the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through water the Israelites were led from slavery in Egypt to freedom in the promised land. In water Jesus was baptised by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit to lead us from the death of sin to newness of life. Bless this water that those who are washed in it may be made one with Christ in his death and resurrection, to be cleansed and delivered from all sin. Send your Holy Spirit on them that, renewed in your image, they may walk by the light of faith and continue for ever in life eternal. Amen AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Let us affirm with Harry Alec and his family and friends our common faith in Christ Jesus Do you believe and trust in God the Father source of all being and life, the one for whom we exist? I believe and trust in him Do you believe and trust in God the Son who took our human nature, died for us and rose again? I believe and trust in him Do you believe and trust in God the Holy Spirit who gives life to the

people of God and makes Christ known in the world? I believe and trust in him This is the faith of the Church This is our faith We believe and trust in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit THE BAPTISM Harry Alec I baptise you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen May God, who has received you by baptism into his church pour upon you the riches of his grace that within the company of Christs pilgrim people you may daily be renewed by his anointing Spirit and come to the inheritance of the saints in glory. Amen Generous and loving God, bless all who care for Harry Alec. Grant him your gifts of love, wisdom and faith. Pour upon him your healing and reconciling love, and protect his home from all evil. Fill him with the light of your presence and give him the joy of your Kingdom. Amen We sing as we return to the front of church where Harry Alec will be welcomed. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is the Lord, Jesus is the Lord God Almighty. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is the Lord, Jesus is the Lord God Almighty. Who was and is and is to come, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is the Lord. This is one Lord, one faith, one baptism: by one Spirit we are all baptised into the one body. We welcome you into the fellowship of faith: we are children of the same heavenly Father; we welcome you We remain standing for THE PEACE

We are fellow citizens with the saints and of the household of god, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who came and preached peace to those who were far off and peace to those who were near. The peace of the Lord be always with you and also with you Let us offer one another a sign of peace (we shake hands with those around us) During this hymn THE COLLECTION is taken & the bread & wine brought to the altar
CP 232

For all the saints who from their labors rest, Who Thee by faith before the world confess, Thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest, Alleluia! Alleluia! Thou wast their Rock, their Fortress, and their Might; Thou, Lord, their Captain in the well-fought fight; Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true Light. Alleluia! Alleluia! Oh, may Thy soldiers, faithful, true and bold, Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old And win with them the victor's crown of gold. Alleluia! Alleluia! O blest communion, fellowship divine, We feebly struggle, they in glory shine; Yet all are one in Thee, for all are Thine. Alleluia! Alleluia! And when the fight is fierce, the warfare long, Steals on the ear the distant triumph song, And hearts are brave again, and arms are strong. Alleluia! Alleluia! we remain standing

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING The Lord is here His Spirit is with us Lift up your hearts We lift them to the Lord Let us give thanks to the Lord our God It is right to give thanks and praise Lord of all life, you created the universe, where all living things reflect your glory. You give us this great and beautiful earth, to discover and to cherish. And now we give you thanks for the hope to which you call us in your Son, that following in the faith of your saints, we may run with perseverance the race that is set before us, and with them receive the unfading crown of glory. You made us all, each wonderfully different, to join with the angels and sing your praise: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of powr and God of might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest; Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he, blessed is he, blessed is he who comes in the name, he who comes in the name of the Lord. hosanna in the highest; Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

We thank you, loving Father, because, when we turned away, you sent Jesus, your Son. He gave his life for us on the cross and shows us the way to live. Send your Holy Spirit that these gifts of bread and wine may be for us Christs body and his blood. On the night before he died, when darkness had fallen, Jesus took bread. He gave thanks, broke it, and shared it with his disciples, saying: This is my body, given for you. Do this to remember me. After they had eaten, he took the cup of wine, gave thanks, and shared it with his disciples, saying: This is my blood, poured out for you and for many, for the forgiveness of sins. So Father, with this bread and this cup we celebrate his love, his death, his risen life. As you feed us with these gifts, send your Holy Spirit, and change us more and more to be like Jesus our Saviour. Help us, Father, to love one another, as we look forward to that day when suffering is ended, and all creation is gathered in your loving arms. And now with Paul and all your saints we give you glory, through Jesus Christ, in the strength of the Spirit, today and for ever. Amen. we sit and silence is kept As our Saviour taught us so we pray: Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be your name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen

BREAKING THE BREAD We break this bread to share in the body of Christ Though we are many we are one body because we all share in the one bread Jesus, Lamb of God, Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Jesus, Lamb of God, Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Jesus, Lamb of God, Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us your peace, grant us your peace. INVITATION TO COMMUNION I heard the voice of a great multitude crying, Alleluia. The lord our God has entered into his kingdom. Blessed are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb. The Servers & Choir receive communion followed by the congregation. Everyone is welcome to come to the altar rail to receive a blessing or the bread and the wine We sit as we sing the hymns during Communion Anthem: The eternal gifts of Christ the King (Guidetti/Henry G Lay) CP 391 Blest are the pure in heart, For they shall see our God; The secret of the Lord is theirs; Their soul is Christs abode.

The Lord, Who left the heavens Our life and peace to bring, To dwell in lowliness with men Their Pattern and their King. Still to the lowly soul He doth Himself impart; And for His dwelling and His throne Chooseth the pure in heart. Lord, we Thy presence seek; May ours this blessing be; Give us a pure and lowly heart, A temple meet for Thee. when everyone has been to the altar rail we say together God, the source of all holiness and giver of all good things: may we who have shared at this table as strangers and pilgrims here on earth be welcomed with all your saints to the heavenly feast on the day of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen THE BANNS OF MARRIAGE and NOTICES GIVING OF A LIGHTED CANDLE Harry Alec and his parents come to the front God has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and has given us a place with the children of light. You have received the light of Christ walk in this light all the days of your life. Shine as a light in the world to the glory of God the Father. We stand for the blessing

May God, who kindled the fire of his love in the hearts of the saints, pour upon you the riches of his grace. Amen. May he give you joy in their fellowship and a share in their praises. Amen. May he strengthen you to follow them in the way of holiness and to come to the full radiance of glory. Amen. And the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen. CP 391 Lord, the light of your love is shining, in the midst of the darkness, shining; Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us, set us free by the truth you now bring us. Shine on me, shine on me. Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Fathers glory; blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire. Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy; send forth your word, Lord, and let there be light. Lord, I come to your awesome presence, from the shadows into your radiance; by the blood I may enter your brightness, search me, try me, consume all my darkness. Shine on me, shine on me. As we gaze on your kingly brightness, so our faces display your likeness, ever changing from glory to glory; mirrored here may our lives tell your story. Shine on me, shine on me.
