The Distributed Systems Lab is located in a new building with 550 sqm and modern facilities providing an enjoyable working place. A number of projects are currently being executed by approximately 50 people, including 5 faculty members of UFCGs Computer Science Department, around 30 graduate and undergraduate students, 10 associated researchers, an infrastructure support team, as well as support for administration matters. Other past projects related to the EUBrazilCC project include EELA-2, GISELA (http://www.gisela-grid.eu/), EUBrazilOpenBio (http://www.eubrazilopenbio.eu), and the JiT Clouds project (http://jitclouds.lsd.ufcg.edu.br/). Campina Grande (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campina_Grande) is the second largest city in the state of Paraiba, with approximately 400 thousand inhabitants, and is located 120 km from the coast. Its location, together with an altitude of 600 meters, provides a stable and pleasant temperature all year around (with an average temperature ranging from 18, in winter, to 30 degrees Celsius in summer). Campina Grande is internationally known as being a technology oasis and has (as of 2011) the highest density of PhDs per inhabitant in Brazil.
