A figured world is a socially produced and culturally constructed real of interpretation in which a particular set of characters and actors

are recognized, significance is assigned to certain acts, and particular outcomes are valued over others. Actors are people in the community who have a big role in the community and who help to carry out the goal and message of the community and to operate or the opposite. Literacies are the significance of the community and what the community has created in the mind of whoever is observing it like discourses which are organized sets of statements that give expression to the meanings and values of an institution. The figured world that I will be observing is a student club here at UNCC that my roommate is the president and creator of. In this club, students simply build different things for fun such as furniture and things similar to that and the name of it is the makers club. The purpose of this club is to let students who are possibly engineers or are simply creative to engage in a project together. The makers club main goal is to let creative students use their talents and enjoy building things as if it is a gamers club. Inappropriate language is not welcomed in this club and neither is loud and distracting noise but however since this is a student club but not really a work environment, the rules are not always strictly under control. Behaviors that may be inacceptable are such as not showing respect to each other as a team. Loud noise can be expected because everybody in the club or at least a lot of people are energetic about what they are doing. Other things that are not appropriate are like perhaps not being friendly because this club is a team so it is set up to have a very friendly environment. Another important aspect is for everyone in the club to do the assignments that they have been assigned to do since when we do a project, everybody gets a piece to build and even to buy tools. Artifacts in the club can be the tools that are used to build the projects like the cylindrical cardboard that is used for the book shelf and the tool box and the places that the club meets like Wallis and sometimes at Woodward. Actors Jack: president of club, my roommate who designed the club. Jessica: One of the club members, she majors in theater arts and likes this club and enjoys building things. Phil: majors in civil engineering and he enjoys building items for the club. Andria: majors in computer science and also enjoys this club and says that building things is a hobby she has. Daniel: is the treasurer of the club and a very active member who organizes a lot of the meetings and has word about the project that are done at the club. Interview What is the reason for this community?

To let UNCC students who like creating things engage in this club for fun and it is like an art or game club. Do the members of this community share something in common? They all like to artistically build projects , some are in engineering programs and others do this for fun. Do people join this community for entertainment or not? Yes and also to meet others and to engage in something they enjoy doing. What is the history of this community? This club is brand new made by my roommate. Is this community known? No but hopefully in the future it will become known more and more. Observation # 1 3:15 p.m., Saturday 9/8/13: 6 of the club members showed up at my roommates apartment to work on their first project which is to build a book shelf. They used a giant cylindrical piece of cardboard and they cut through it and the next step is to paint it possibly.5:45 p.m.: As a club, the members went out to eat and hanged out after that. Observation # 2 4:25 pm ,September First at in room 301 in Wallis: was the information meeting that introduced the club and some students came but didnt attend the club after but some students did and are now active members of the club which are about a total of 8 out of 14 people that came. Observation # 3 6:35 pm 9/6/12 at Wallis: about all the group members came to divide duties and discuss what their first project would be which is to build a book shelf and decorate it possibly which is under discussion. 7:15 p.m.: Also another important item that was discussed that day is who is responsible for what. My roommate is the president and creator of this club but he gave a duty to someone to be the treasure and someone else to take of supplies and storage and someone to keep track of what they are doing. Later they went out to eat and hanged out as club members together.
