COURSE DESCRIPTION : : : BED 223 BASIC ACCOUNTING One of the business core subject of BSHM, this course introduces the students to the principles of accounting, interpretation and analysis of financial statements. Students are expected to make inferences based on ratio analysis in problems relating to financial condition of the tourism/hospitality enterprise. (CMO 30 s2006) None 3 At the end of the semester, the students should be able to: a. define and describe accounting, the accounting equation, the elements of the accounting equation, and the accounting cycle; b. record transactions and post the journal transactions to accounts; c. prepare trial balance and financial statements of sole proprietorship; d. make inferences using ratio analysis in problems related to the financial condition of the enterprise.

VIII. COURSE REQUIREMENTS

: 1. This ACCOUNTING COURSE will be consisting of lectures, discussions, presentations, individual and group problem solving, take home exercises, quizzes, oral examinations, board exercises and major examinations (Prelim, Midterm, and Final Examinations). 2. The course utilizes ONLINE instructions and sharing to augment the actual classroom activities. The students are thus required to submit their email addresses and to be a member of the FB group and/or yahoogroup of the class where important announcements, instructions, and file sharing are done. 3. ATTENDANCE to the class is per college policy. The student is allowed only up to 20% absences. Beyond that, the student will either be dropped or given a failing grade. 15 minutes late will be considered as one day absence. The students are required to be both physically and mentally present in class. 4. ANY ACCOUNTING TEXTBOOK may be used by the student. They may also use trusted websites as references. The use of wikipedia as reference is not allowed. Textbook in pdf format and powerpoint presentations will be shared online to students. 5. Students are REQUIRED to have with them the following every meeting: Calculator (the use of cellphone as calculator is not allowed), Columnar papers (4 colums or as specifed), and yellow papers. 6. The use of CELLPHONES inside the classroom is not allowed. Anyone caught using cellphone during class will be given a grade of 50%(0) for recitation for the day and may be subjected to disciplinary action. In case of emergency where the use of cellphone is needed by the student, permission should be secured first from the instructor. 7. CHEATING of any kind during oral or written examinations is not allowed. Anyone caught cheating will be given a grade of 50% (0) for the examination being taken and will be subjected to disciplinary action as per the College policy on cheating.
