WASHINGTON(NNS)STATEMENTBYREARADMIRALJOHNF.KIRBY,NAVYCHIEFOF INFORMATION TheNavysuspendedtodaytheaccesstoclassifiedmaterialofViceAdm.TedBranch,Directorof NavalIntelligence,andRearAdm.BruceLoveless,DirectorofIntelligenceOperations. Thedecisiontosuspendtheirclassifiedaccesswasmadebaseduponthenatureofallegations againstAdmiralsBranchandLovelessinconnectionwithanongoingNavalCriminalInvestigative Service(NCIS)investigationintoillegalandimproperrelationswithLeonardFrancis,CEOofGlenn DefenseMarine. Thesuspensionwasdeemedprudentgiventhesensitivenatureoftheircurrentdutiesandto protectandsupporttheintegrityoftheinvestigativeprocess. TheallegationsagainstAdmiralsBranchandLovelessinvolveinappropriateconductpriortotheir currentassignmentsandflagofficerrank.Thereisnoindication,nordotheallegationssuggest,that ineithercasetherewasanybreachofclassifiedinformation. Itisimportanttonotethatallegationsarejustthat,allegations.Neitherofficerhasbeencharged withanycrimeorviolation.Bothmenretaintheirrankandsecurityclearances.Theyareon temporaryleave. NCISinitiatedthisinvestigationin2010.TheNavyappreciatesthesupportwehavereceivedfrom theU.S.Attorney'sofficeandotherlawenforcementagencies. Wewillcontinuetomakepublicasmuchinformationaswecanwithoutprejudicingtheconductof thisinvestigation.
