U.S Military Intervention in Syria An Annotated Bibliography I am doing my annotated bibliography on the most recent controversial topic that is well known worldwide by now. I really got interested into this topic because I love learning about the military, from wars to trainings and the usage and development of different weapons. I always read news online and the topic of Syria really struck me because this one country could change us for better or for worse. This issue is controversial because the world superpowers are allies with Syria and that this controversy could lead up to more killings or worse, WWIII. As being part of the U.S military for 4 years and 4 more years to go as a reservist, I feel this topic is very important to me and could shape not just my career but also my countrys future. The research question I decided to work on is this: Is military intervention in Syria necessary? I have been working on several questions that will be able to answer my research topic in a more detailed and thorough manner. There will be lots of facts that I will be including in my research article and will directly correlate to the topic itself. Ive been conducting steady research on this topic starting October 3rd, 2013 and up until October 20th, 2013. These sources answers all my initial research questions and goes in depth on why the U.S should or should not get involved in a new war, comparing the positive and negative effects of both. This scholarly article was written for the American citizens, as well as any interested third parties that will be interested in the topic of war. The author wants us to see the clear message on the Presidents input on war on what the President is trying to do being as he is the Commander in Chief of the Army. The author points out the need of approval of Congress for a war according to Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S Constitution. He also states the general consensus from the members of Congress in this issue. The intervention from the United Nations and Russia for the war in Syria. And most important being that the President has his mind set on setting this war quoting I believe I have the authority to carry out this military action without specific congressional authorization. The source is very credible because of the very recent publication date, October 7th, 2013. The author is very reliable on his source of information because he is the senior editor of The New American news source. He has earned good reputation as Americas high rated investigative reporter and has attended several United Nations conferences. This source was published in MAS Ultra who specializes in magazines for higher learning. This source is really beneficial to my research because it answers most of my questions. Some questions that werent answered in this source, I am continuously looking for it in other sources for my research article. Some of the questions that werent answered were the reason for

Kaiser, Jocelyn. "As Syria Crisis Mounts, Scientist Looks Back At Last Major Chemical Attack." Science 341.6150 (2013): 1051. Academic Search Premier. Web. 20 Oct. 2013. This peer reviewed article was an interview with a young assistant in a toxicology laboratory. Dirk Dons, the young assistant is part of a team called Doctors Without Borders, a non-profit organization. Dons is asked about the situation in Syria and what he was doing down there. He then is asked about all the horrible things he saw with thousands of people dead on the streets and him having to do his job and take laboratory samples to examine whether a chemical attack was executed in Syria by the Syrian government. The article was published in Science Magazine and the reputation of the author makes this source very reliable. Jocelyn Kaiser, the author, is a graduate of Princeton University and Indiana University holding degrees in Chemical Engineering and Journalism. The source was published very recently on September 6th, 2013. One limitation on this article is that the interview is very short and doesnt go into too much detail of what exactly happened down in Syria. This source adds additional information I need for my article from a viewpoint of a professional that has witnessed the situation out in the field. Although short, it answers questions that people dont have much idea about the situation in Syria.

This web article was published in front page of the Global Research webpage. It talks about how media is helping push for a war in Syria when evidence has been found that shows Syrian government is not to blame for the major massacre that happened recently. The article blames U.S, UK, French government into tricking people into buying their story and believing their propaganda that these governments have started to get involved in a war. The article blames other world power and the terrorist organization for the mass massacre instead of the Syrian government where media is portraying Syria is to blame. Patrick Henningsen is the owner of 21stcenturywire.com. 21stcenturywire specializes in exposing governmental intelligence, foreign policy, the war on terror and other controversial news topics. This source is reliable because it gives me the negative effects of the military intervention in Syria. This article gives me two sides to work on and base my research off of. It answers why a military intervention in Syria is wrong and how the media is hiding the truth from us.

This web article is from a world renowned news website, USNEWS.com. The page I accesssed is called the Debate Club where quite a few professional debate on a certain topic, this one being Syria. The question established was should the U.S intervene in Syria with military action. These professionals either say Yes or No and give their expert opinion on this topic.

The source is very reliable because it is coming from quite a few authors with their own arguments. Some authors are Aaron David Miller, Former Adviser to Republican and Democrat Secretaries of State, Daniel J Gallington, Senior Policy and Program Adviser at the George C. Marshall Institute and James Robbins, Senior Fellow at the the American Foreign Policy Council. All of these sources where written during the 2nd week of February in 2012 with the authors article publication date varying by a day or two. This source was very useful to me because it gives me arguments based on two different sides. It helps me use the content provided and gives accurate and detailed information to my audiences.
