IIAP signs training contract with AICLA In its efforts of providing top notch training to insurance practitioners, the

Insurance Institute of Asia and the Pacific (IIAP) signed a contract with the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters (AICLA), the leading loss adjusting body in the Asia Pacific Region, to hold and facilitate a Claims Technician Course (CTC). The CTC is a three module program developed by AICLA for claims handlers. There are no prerequisites to enter the course. However, candidates will find it beneficial if they are currently employed in a claims area of an insurance, broking or loss adjusting organization. The program is suitable for representatives entering the claims profession as well as those who already have some claims handling experience and those who wish to obtain a formal qualification. A certificate in claims management would be awarded upon successful completion of the program. The course covers essential technical knowledge in general insurance and the application of specialist claims skills in relation to commercial and personal lines insurance. The modules to be tackled are as follows: 1. Working Environment This module provides candidates with the knowledge and skills to enable them to apply industry standards and company policies and procedures in their day-to-day claims handling work. Topics include: Financial services industry structure and roles Principles of insurance Financial services industry guidelines, procedures and legislation Industry terminology Company policies, guidelines and procedures for claims technicians 2. Working communication and Interaction This module covers the essential communication skills required to work effectively in a claims technician role. Topics include: Understanding work-related interactions Following routine instructions Key communication skills in the claims environment Participating in claims negotiations 3. Claims Processes and Procedures This module provides candidates with the competencies to receive, register, analyze and settle claims in accordance with company procedures. Topics include: Processing claims Receiving and recording/registering claims Analyzing insurance claims

Settling claims

Each module must be completed before a candidate is permitted to enrol into the next module of the program. The candidates can work at their own pace to suit their work and personal commitments and are given a maximum of one year to complete all three modules. However, AICLA enjoins that candidates should aim to complete each module within three months. Three examinations anent each module to test what the candidate has learned are to be undertaken in one sitting. One retake per module would be allowed if the examination is to be retaken within the 12 month period. A corresponding fee for retaking the examination may apply. Candidates who were able to finish the course will be eligible to join the Institute of Claims Technicians (ICT) as a Qualified Claims Technician and use the post nominal, QCT, provided that the candidate would maintain their membership and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements.
