Industrial PhD Lactose Caking

In order to fulfil the requirements for the Danish Industrial PhD programme, you must have achieved the following grades: a weighted grade point average of at least 8.2 on the Danish 7-point grading scale or 9 on the 13-point grading scale for your entire Masters degree and at least grade 10 for your final thesis or examination project (if applicable). As a person you are naturally inquisitive, curious and ambitious. Half of your work will take place at AFIs R&D department in Nr. Vium, Denmark, where you will enjoy a challenging scientific work environment. You will be the 15th member of our team of professionally passionate engineers and scientists. Here, as well as in France, your outgoing personality and well-developed communication skills enable you to achieve results in cooperation with colleagues and partners. As the scientific nature of our work demands, you are structured and meticulous in your day-to-day work, and deal well with responsibilities and challenges. Finally, you are proficient in verbal and written English.

Research in lactose caking


Arla Foods Ingredients (AFI) R&D, the Department of Food Science at University of Copenhagen and INRA, a French research facility specialising in dairy, are offering the right candidate a 3-year Industrial PhD scholarship. You will be employed by AFI and based in Nr. Vium, Denmark, but expected to carry out 50% of your work at the facilities of INRA near Rennes, France. The research project will focus on vapour and heat transport in lactose powder with an emphasis on its impact on large-scale production. Lactose powder is an important ingredient in the food industry and especially in infant formula. More knowledge about caking and sticking of lactose powder is needed in order to secure high quality powders and to advice customers on how to handle lactose powders in applications. In other words, your research will be of significant importance to AFI and consumers of all ages all over the world.
