By nature of democracy, people are given power to choose who will run the country.

It is stated on the 1987 Philippine Constitution Section 1 that suffrage may be exercised by all citizens of the Philippines not otherwise disqualified by law, who are at least eighteen years of age, and who shall have resided in the Philippines for at least one year and in the place wherein they propose to vote for at least six months immediately preceding the election. No literacy, property, or other substantive requirement shall be imposed on the exercise of suffrage. Being a Filipino, it is therefore beneficial to know that we have this obligation to fulfil in our country, that is, to participate actively in every election. Aside from being a democratic country which calls for election, election itself is also fundamental because it allows the voters to choose personalities of whom they believe have great abilities and skills to make the country if not best, atleast a better one. These elected government officials serve as leaders who will run the nation and thus, will prevent disorganization among people. It is important to have leaders who will facilitate so that everything will be in a systematic way. This makes our everyday life flow smoothly not unlike animals which are found roaming around the busy streets as if they are lost. Furthermore, election also informs us about the present condition of our country. This is made possible through the different political candidates who include the current state of the nation in campaign speeches and emphasize their proposed solutions to the unsolved problems of the country if given the chance. As Filipino citizens, we should be concern on what is happening in our country because first and foremost, this is where we live and it is here that we get our daily needs. It is somehow a motivating factor to participate actively in elections if we know the condition of our country. It is now in the hands of the people to scrutinize every candidate in election. By this, we develop our decision-making and critical thinking skills. These decisions may involve assimilating a huge amount of information, exploring many different ideas, and drawing on many strands of experience. After we gather information, analysis comes next and this is where our critical thinking develops and takes place. It is then important to remember that we are what our choices and decisions make us to be. Moreover, election is not merely about casting our votes but this also introduces us to new developments and innovations in the field of science and technology. We are talking about the advanced election paraphernalia like the Precinct Count Optical Scan(PCOS) machines which were used for the first time last 2010 Philippine election. By this, we can see improvement on the election process. It only shows that the government is doing its duty to the country and his people.
