What I Can Accomplish

If you like being an important team member who helps keep the power running, then you will have ample opportunities as an electrician. Electricians are needed to support the fast paced construction taking place in our community and along the Texas Gulf Coast. Electricians who work primarily in construction install wiring systems, rewire or upgrade existing electrical systems. Maintenance electricians repair and install new electrical equipment such as circuit breakers, fuses, switches, and electrical components. Electricians work at construction sites, in homes, and in businesses or factories, schools, and government buildings. Brazosport Colleges classes offer specialized training and individual attention. Plus you will gain hands-on experience in the classroom and in co-op courses working with local businesses. Added benefits are great job prospects and pay.

Start by completing the application

Brazosport College uses the statewide electronic application, which can be accessed from the Brazosport College website at www.brazosport.edu. If for some reason, the application cannot be completed electronically, a paper application can be obtained from the colleges Admissions Office. For additional information about the admissions process, transcripts, college testing and applicable exemptions, or orientation, contact a college staff member at the number listed below.

Select a program of study.

Counselors and Faculty Advisors are available to share information about college programs and help you select your first semester courses. Visit the Brazosport College Financial Aid Office. The college participates in federal and state financial aid programs as well as privately-funded and college-funded assistance programs. There are four types of financial aid: grants, scholarships, student employment, and loans. Financial Aid advisors are available to answer your questions and give further information about available aid programs.

Electricians generally specialize in construction or maintenance work, although a growing number do both. Graduates typically work as electrical apprentices under the supervision of a master electrician. Many job openings are expected over the next decade as a large number of electricians are expected to retire. This will create good job opportunities for the most qualified jobseekers, especially in growing areas of Texas. Brazosport College offers you the choice of short-term certificates or a two-year degree. You decide which option is best for you. Either way you go, this is an excellent way to start your new career.
