Module 2
CRITERIA/REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATES FOR WIND POWER PLANTS CONNECTION
AND OPERATION TO/AS PART OF THE NATIONAL POWER SYSTEM (NPS).
THE DIMENSIONING AND SAFETY IN OPERATION OF THE ELECTRICAL POWER
NETWORKS/NPS, IN CASE OF WIND POWER PLANTS CONNECTION AT NPS
ELECTRICAL POWER NETWORKS.
1 INTRODUCTION
The utilisation of the wind installations represents a serious option for electrical energy generation,
but the connecting conditions of the power plants at the power system and the injection of electrical
energy/power into the electrical power system is not so easy at it looks. The cost of the produced
wind energy also is depending on the nodes to which the respective wind power plants (WPP) are
connected on. The wind power plants can be connected at different points of medium and high
voltage, having -as a consequence - different operation costs, which are depending on the local
electrical networks configuration, the costs of electrical lines needed for the connection of the wind
power plants at power system and the costs of the needed electrical networks modifications.
The proposed connecting solutions have to assure the optimal and absolutely safety operation of the wind
groups, as well the fulfilment of the electrical networks operators and system operators specific
requirements, for do not affect the optimal and absolutely safety operation of the electrical networks,
respectively of the entire power system.

1.1 General aims

This module’s general aim is to provide the attendants the basic knowledge about the connection
and operation of the wind groups and power plants at/into the electrical networks of the NPS and
about the dimensioning and safety in operation of the electrical power networks, respectively of the
NPS, in case of wind power plants connection at NPS electrical power networks.
The aim is achieved through 6 didactic sections, presented at point 2.2 from curricula.
1.2 Target groups
This module’s target groups are: investors, consultants, designers, electrical installations building up or
installation work contractor, managers and specialists from the electricity generation companies based on
renewable power resources, respectively from the electricity companies, responsible with the initiation,
financing, designing, implementation/performing, operating and maintenance of wind installations, from
equipment sellers and services, as well, who intend to increase their knowledge in this field.
2 SPECIFIC AIMS AND TOPICS
The pathway of module consists of a 2 days seminar, subdivided in sections (with different
duration), with these contents and related aims.
1st day
Contents The connection of the wind power plants at the NPS electrical networks. Electrical generators
used into wind power plants. The wind power groups control. The operation of the wind groups
and power plants into the electrical networks of the NPS.
Aims The first day aim is to provide the attendants the basic knowledge about the main
components and parameters/characteristics of the wind installations, as well reffering to the
connection and the operation of the wind groups and power plants into the electrical
networks of the NPS.
2nd day
Contents The influence of the electrical power networks/NPS on wind power plants operation. The
electrical power networks/NPS operation in case of wind power plants connecting to the
electrical networks of the NPS. The wind power plants control. The integration into the
operative/dispatching control of NPS.
Aims During the second day are provided the basic knowledge about the influence of the electrical power
networks on wind power plants operation, the electrical power networks/NPS operation in wind power
plants presence. Also, there are presented several basic information as regards the wind power plants
control and their integration into operative/dispatching control of NPS.

Below there’s an overview of the module contents.
