INSTALLATION GUIDE
The following provides general instructions to install SACS on a single computer system. The images depicted may not be up to date but the general procedure remains correct. All downloaded installation files should be placed on the computers desktop or CD placed into the appropriate drive before starting. The procedure requires that a person with Administrator rights be logged on before initiating the installation. The installation of SACS assumes that a Bentley hosted SELECTserver, Local Managed SELECTserver, or Node lock license has already been installed prior to the following procedure. Contact the Bentley SELECTserver group for available options and instructions to install SELECTserver.
INSTALL FROM CD
1. To install Bentley applications, ensure you have logged in to the computer with an account that has administrative privileges. If you are unable to log in with a suitable account, then contact your network administrator to login and perform the installation. 2. Insert the CD, should automatically run an introduction application from which you can start the installation. If the introduction application does not begin, then use My Computer to browse to the CD and double click on the file Setup.exe which is in the product> install folder of the CD.
13
6. If software was not installed, means that the application was only unzipped to the computer system; to complete the installation go to C:\BentleyDownloads\iegls02001803en (filename/version may be different but procedure is correct) and run the Setup.exe file. 7. Reboot the computer, and continue with License Set-up Guide before starting SACS.
This SACS 5.3 V8i can be run side-by-side with SACS 5.3 SP2 and SACS 5.2 SP3. This procedure assumes that SELECTserver has been installed and configured, If not please contact Bentley License group or Bentley SELECTserver group to assist you. 1. Close all other applications currently running and then navigate to the EXE file downloaded using the procedure above or CD and double click on it to start the installation process. 2. Nothing will appear while the installer is starting up. In a short time the following will appear.
3. Enter your Name and Company in the User Information box and also the Bentley License Server Name along with your Activation Key. If you have installed a stand-alone license (Node-Locked) leave the Bentley SELECT Licensen Informatio box blank.

The Local Folder pertains to any components and configuration files required on the local machine, while the Program folder pertains to the location of the SACS program modules and other system files. The Documentation Folder specifies the location of the online documentation files.

SELECT LICENSE - STANDALONE WORKSTATIONS (NODE LOCKED) SELECT LICENSE - NETWORK WORKSTATIONS
21 24
There are 2 options for licensing Bentley applications: Standalone or Networked workstations. Standalone workstation - computer system that requires an XML license file to be imported into License Management Tool in order to license installed applications. The XML file is checked out against a Bentley Hosted or User Deployed SELECTserver account. Networked workstation - computer system that is connected temporarily / permanently to a Bentley Hosted or User Deployed Server on a network. While connected, license can be checked in /out as required from a pool of available licenses on the contract. All license management questions/modifications are handled by the Bentley License team and Account Managers not SACS TSG. Your account manager can also assist with application pricing.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Install SACS per above procedure. 2. Acquire a valid Bentley SELECT license file (*.xml) from your Bentley On-site Admin, hosted server, deployed server, Bentley License Team, or Account Manager. Prior to getting an XML file, user may need to provide a computer name where the application is to be installed. 3. Copy the license file in your hard disk. AUTOMATIC MODE
In this mode the executive manages which package is selected for check-out; e.g. if a user initiates a Time History Earthquake analysis, the executive would query the server for a license that contains the necessary modules and attempt to check them out. In this mode the executive checks-out the package(s) when it starts the analysis and checks it back in when the analysis is complete.
MANUAL MODE
In this mode the user selects the license(s) to check-out/check-in. When running the analysis, the Executive prompts the user to check-out any required packages. These licenses would remain checked-out until the user checks them in manually in the SACS License Explorer or Bentleys license manager or the license period expires. This mode also handles the disconnected mode equivalent to taking the hardware lock off-site. In disconnected mode the license is still checked out to the site so if the user does not check it in it will remained tied-up for up to a maximum of 30 days. The same happens on the computer, the license will expire in a period of time if the user does not plug back in a refreshes the license. These procedures are managed using the SACS License Explorer described below.
The SACS License Explorer has three basic functions: 1) Display a list of currently licensed SACS packages and modules. 2) Displays the check-out status of the licensed packages and modules. 3) Allows the user to check-out/check-in licenses when in manual mode and allows the user to set a Check-out Expiration Date.
