#ThankYouSachin

Its hard to imagine my life of 24 years between the 22 yards has come to an end As the curtains fell on the illustrious and a mass hysteria creating career of 24 years of the greatest player this country has seen and quite arguably the world cricket has ever seen, the son of the soil bid good bye to the revered 22 yards leaving almost the entire nation teary eyed with a soul stirring adieu to the world of cricket. He was the God for those who believed in Cricket as a religion in this frenzied nation. What made him so popular amongst the crowd was the fact that although he had touched the zenith of the skies, but his feet stayed where they always were. He played his every match with the same enthusiasm he had in his first. Well as they say, every child born in India is born with a bat in hand, that was the effect that this man had on a generation born in the 1990s. Families used to stay glued to the Television sets watching with bated breath to see this man play and for India to win. Credit must be given where its due and Sourav, Laxman, Dravid, Kumble, Srinath and many more came by and won India many a match, but what this man did was something more important, he made people believe in themselves, his humbleness made people relate to him as a player. Be it giving nightmares to Shane Warne or hitting Shoaib Akhtar for a square cut six over gully, Sachin always found a way to trump the bowlers. Our Blood Pressures took a beating whenever this man missed a ball or edged it, our hearts came to our mouth whenever there was an appeal against this man. He was the hope of a nation of about 1.5 billion people, he made people come closer in Indian homes, grandfather, grandmother, father-mother, uncle-aunt, sons-daughters all had the same expectations from him. While watching Cricket in the grounds, no matter who might have had hit a six or a four, people would automatically start shouting Sachinnn.Sachinnn as if the term had become generic for boundaries. He was the collective consciousness of all the people in India, his smile, his demeanor , his tweaking his box, his hitting the pitch with the bat, his inimitable way of lifting the bat after hitting a century

has been emulated by dozens and dozens of cricketers all over India. This man taught us how to command respect from not only the team but from opponents alike. The fact that the way the umpires also stood in line to give this man a guard of honor shows that he was after all above the rest of em all. Most of the times, there was only one common topic for the Common Man in the country to discuss, and no prizes for guessing it was Sachin. Come no matter how much we miss this man, but we must thank him for as long as it lasted it was indeed very very special. As for the Sport, he has made it richer than he had inherited it as, that for us is the mark of a true gentleman. Cricket is truly a Gentlemans Game and this Gentleman proved why. - Yashraj Samant (XII Science)
