Majask World Studies - 1A 14 November 2013 Solar Power Proposal The essential factor to solar power is the sun. The sun drives solar power, because in the sun, fusion occurs between hydrogen atoms at unprecedented speeds. This fusion gives off an immense amount of energy and provides fuel for the sun to keep burning. Only a small amount of energy reaches the Earth, and this energy gets converted into heat or electricity by the most commonly known solar power generator, solar panels. There are many reasons that solar power should be a main type of alternative energy. First of all, solar power can be used to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, which have an impact on global warming. In reference to the article "Alternative Energy, Overview" by Christopher Merrott, this types of energy can be used to heat things up such as water and even the building itself, instead of using the regular greenhouse gases to heat those things. Due to the infrequent use of greenhouse gases during this process, we will be able to lower their amount in our atmosphere. In general, by switching to solar power, pollution of the atmosphere could be one less thing that humanity needs to worry about. Secondly, solar power is considered a renewable resource. Solar energy is found almost everywhere in the world because of it unlimited supply from the sun. This energy is free and can be used by anyone. Many companies take advantage of this alternative energy and build solar

Noble 2 towers or solar furnaces. To sum up, solar power should be used more often because of its availability and how easily it can be accessed to. Finally, solar power can also make countries less energy dependent. According to the article "Solar Energy" from the encyclopedia Alternative Energy, many countries around the world were not lucky enough to have the benefit of producing oil which is one of the primary sources of energy, and have the ability to decide on how to price and supply their oil to another country. Solar energy in a country will allow it to make its own decisions on how to control the energy in their own country. Overall, places across the world should have methods to gain solar power to have its own jurisdiction on its energy. There are many examples of solar power in real life machinery. One example is the solar furnace. Solar furnaces use mirrors to concentrate light to another area to attain hotter temperatures. Another example of solar power is the use of solar towers. These towers use the sun's solar energy to power up and create electricity for entire areas. Finally an example of solar power is one I mentioned earlier, the use of solar panels. Solar panels have photovoltaic cell made of silicon in order to capture energy from the sun and convert it into electricity. In conclusion, solar power should be used more often because of all its advantages. It can reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, it has a high availability, and it can give a country more control over its energy. Solar power is a great source of alternative energy, and can provide an even greater future for the world.
