Section of Solids Section plane Perpendicular to HP and parallel to VP


1. A Rectangular prism, side of base 40 mm x 25 mm and height 60 mm, rests with its base on HP, such that one of its larger rectangular faces is parallel to VP. A section plane perpendicular to HP and parallel to VP cuts the prism into two halves. Draw its top and sectional front view. 2. A hexagonal prism, side of base 30 mm and axis 60mm long, rests with its base on HP, Such that one of its rectangular faces is parallel to VP. A section plane perpendicular to HP and parallel to VP cuts the prism at a distance of 10 mm from its axis. Draw its top and sectional front view. 3. A Cylinder of 50mm diameter and 60mm height stands vertically with its base on HP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to HP, parallel to VP and at a distance of 15mm from the axis. Draw its top and sectional front view. 4. A Pentagonal pyramid, side of base 35mm and axis 60mm long, rests with its base on HP. Such that one of the edges of the base is perpendicular to VP. A section plane perpendicular to the HP and parallel to VP cuts the pyramid at a distance of 20mm from the corner of the base nearer to the observer. Draw its top and sectional front view.

5. A Pentagonal pyramid, side of base 30mm and axis 60mm long, rests with its base on HP and one of the edges of its base is perpendicular to VP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to VP and parallel to HP and passing through the axis at a point 35 mm above the base. Draw front and sectional top view. 6. A hexagonal pyramid, side of base 30 mm and axis 60mm long rests with its base on HP and one of the edges of its base is parallel to VP. It is cut by a section plane at a distance of 38mm above the base. Draw the front and sectional top views. 7. A cube of side 50mm side rests with one of its edges on HP such that the square faces containing that edge are making equal inclinations with HP. A horizontal section plane cuts the cube at a distance of 18mm below the horizontal edge nearer to the observer. Obtain the front and sectional top views.

8. A hexagonal prism of base side 30mm and axis length 70mm rests on one of its ends on the HP with two base sides parallel to the VP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to the VP and inclined at 300 to the HP. The cutting plane meets the axis at 30mm from the top. Draw the front view, sectional top view and true shape of the section. 9. A Pentagonal pyramid, side of base 30mm and axis 60mm long, rests with its base on HP and an edge of its base is parallel to VP. A section plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 450 to HP passes through the axis at a point 35mm above the base. Draw the sectional top view and true shape of the section. 10. A Cone base 50mm diameter and axis 65mm long, rests with its base on HP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to VP inclined at 450 to HP and passing through a point on the axis 35mm above the base. Draw the sectional top view and true shape of the section. 11. A Cone, base 40mm diameter and axis 60mm long, rests with its base on HP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to VP, parallel to one of the generators and passing through a point on the axis at a distance of 25mm from the apex. Draw the sectional top view and true shape of the section.

12. A square prism, side of base 40mm and axis 60mm long, rests with its base on HP, such that one of its rectangular faces is inclined at 30 0 to VP. A section plane perpendicular to HP and inclined at 600 to VP passes through the prism such that a rectangular face which is making 600 with VP is cut into two halves. Draw the top view, sectional front view and true shape of the section. 13. A hexagonal pyramid, side of base 25mm and axis 55mm long, rests with its base on HP, such that one of the edges of its base is perpendicular to VP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to HP, inclined at 450 to VP and passing through the pyramid at a distance of 10mm from the axis. Development of Surfaces Prisms & Cylinder 1. A hexagonal prism, side of base 20mm and axis 50mm long, rests with its base on HP, such that one of its rectangular faces is parallel to VP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to VP, inclined at 450 to HP and passing through the right corner of the top face of the prism. Draw the sectional top view and develop the lateral surface of the truncated prism. 2. A hexagonal prism of base side 20mm and height 45mm is resting on one of its ends on the HP with two of its lateral faces parallel to the VP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to the VP and inclined at 300 to the HP. The plane meets the axis at a distance of 20mm above the base. Draw the development of the lateral surfaces of the lower portion of the prism. 3. A pentagonal prism, side of base 25mm and axis 55mm long, rests with its base on HP and an edge of the base is inclined at 450 to the VP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to VP, inclined at 300 to the HP and passing through a point on the axis at a distance of 35mm from the base. Develop the lateral surface of the truncated prism. 4. A cube of 40mm edge stands on one of its faces on HP with a vertical face making 450 to VP. A horizontal hole of 30mm diameter is drilled centrally through the cube such that the hole passes through the opposite vertical edges of the cube. Obtain the development of the lateral surface of the cube with the hole. 5. A hexagonal prism, side of base 25mm and height 55mm rests with its base on HP and one of its rectangular faces is parallel to VP. A circular hole of 40mm diameter is drilled through the prism such that the axis of the hole bisects the axis of the prism at right angles and is perpendicular to VP. Draw the development of the lateral surface of the prism with the hole. 6. A vertical chimney of 70cm diameter joins a roof sloping at an angle of 35 0 with the horizontal. The shortest portion over the roof is 32cm. determine the shape of the sheet metal from which the chimney can be fabricated. Take scale of 1:20. 7. A cylinder of 45mm base diameter and 55mm long rests with its base on HP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to VP, inclined at 600 to HP and passing through a point on the axis, 12mm from its top. Draw the sectional top view and the development of the lateral surface of the truncated cylinder.

8. A cylinder of diameter 40mm and height 50mm is resting vertically on one of its ends on the HP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to the VP and inclined at 30 0 to the HP. The plane meets the axis at a point 30mm from the base. Draw the development of the lateral surface of the lower portion of the truncated cylinder. 9. Draw the development of the lateral surface of the right portion of the cylinder of diameter 50mm and height 65mm cut by a plane inclined at 600 to the base and passing through the axis at a height of 40mm above the base. Pyramids and Cones 1. Draw the development of the lateral surface of a square pyramid, side of base 25mm and height 50mm, resting with its base on HP and an edge of the base is parallel to VP. 2. Draw the development of a hexagonal pyramid of side of base 25mm and altitude 50mm. 3. A pentagonal pyramid, side of base 30mm and height 52mm, stands with its base on HP and an edge of the base is parallel to VP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to VP, inclined at 400 to HP and passing through a point on the axis, 32mm above the base. Draw the sectional top view and develop the lateral surface of the truncated pyramid. 4. A hexagonal pyramid, side of base 35mm and height 60mm stands with its base on HP. The two of its edges of the hexagonal pyramid is perpendicular to VP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to VP inclined at 300 to HP and passing through a point on the axis, 25mm from the base. Draw the sectional top view and develop the lateral surface of the truncated pyramid. 5. A cone of base 50mm diameter and height 65mm rests with its base on HP. A section plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 30 0 to HP bisects the axis of the cone. Draw the development of the lateral surface of the truncated cone. 6. A cone of base 50mm diameter and 60mm height rests with its base on HP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to VP, parallel to one of its generators and passing through a point on the axis at a distance of 22mm from the apex. Draw the sectional top view and develop the lateral surface of the remaining portion of the cone. 7. A cone base diameter 50mm and axis 60mm long, rests with its base on HP. A section plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 45 0 to HP bisects the axis of the cone. Draw the lateral surface of the remaining portion of the cone. 8. A cone base diameter 54mm and height 72mm, rests with its base on HP. A section plane perpendicular to HP and inclined at 250 to VP cuts the cone at a distance of 13.5mm from the axis. Draw the sectional front view and develop the lateral surface of the remaining portion of the cone.
