Considering a passage plan the Navigator should take note of the following areas of concern:

PASSAGE PLANNING CHECKLIST


Check Points
All charts to be used are corrected and up to date .
All the largest scale charts have been employed .
Course tracks and distances plotted with respective margins of safety.
Next chart indication to allow positional transfer.
Traffic separation schemes and relevant references.
All relevant navigation warnings have been received and where applicable applied.
Determine, in consultation with Chief Engineer, the need of the intended voyage in Fuel, Water, Lubricants,
Provisions and any other requirements.
Take note of all positions of high interest with regard to potential marine hazards.
Compare intended route with sailing directions and routes advised by Ocean Passages for the World and Pilot
Charts .
Assess with care all landfall position for shallows, currents and other possible dangers.
Tidal streams with indicated max/min rates and directions.
Crossing traffic of known areas of heavy traffic destiny.
Highlight NO CROSS AREAS.
The load line regulations are not infringed.
Security measures have been taken as per SSP in accordance to present vessel security level.
Circular MAR/08 Guidelines for voyage Planning A. 983 (21) taken into account.
To be completed and signed by Master when the vessel navigates to and from any discharge and/or load port.
The Master has clear instructions to contact direct with the port control in order to ensure that prevailing
conditions allowed the safety movement of the ship. The Master taking into account the following situations
/conditions has clear authority to manage directly himself. These instructions do not limit the Masters
Authority.
