Small Business and Large Corporation Employment in the United States In the United States of America, large corporations and monopolies are taking control of sales. Companies such as Wal-Mart are responsible for much of the revenue the United States obtains. However, many of us could most likely name some small companies that we would much rather attend to. For example, why go get a haircut at J.C.Penny when a small salon down the road can do it for half the price. Most corporations are formed because of small businesses; however, they have many differences. Many of these differences are visible in how they handle their employment whereas small businesses offer quick processes and less complexity; large corporations have more levels to obtain and are very complex. Someone who owns a small business of their own will most likely hire someone they know very well, such as a friend or relative. The boss may not even require an application from the employee. If a boss does take in a stranger, they will have to submit an application. For a small business, the application process is very quick. The boss will most likely take little to no time to review the application, call the potential employee, call in for an interview, and the potential employee will find out that day if they will start as an employee or not. Large corporations, with their abundance of silos and bureaucratic levels, often require considerable time to make decisions. (Lindegaard, 2012) If someone applies to work somewhere such as Wal-Mart, the application processes are much differently than as stated before. The application process is so specific that one must structure their resume above standards and include every skill that will be beneficial to the company. In the interview process, always dress to impress and astonish the manager. The rest of the application process will likely take up to 3 weeks for a response on the job status.

Small Businesses and Large Corporations

When someone gets a job at small business, they will begin to see that yes, rules should be followed, however, they can be bent to a certain extent. For example, the boss man will most likely not be on the verge of firing someone for being five minutes late every now and then. Fewer rules mean more flexibility. More flexibility usually makes the working conditions better. Working conditions for a large corporation may vary. However, with so much responsibility being held, there will be much more rules and regulations to be followed than in a smaller business. In a large corporation, everyone is less likely to have the flexibility that is yearned to have. Getting stuck with a boss that refuses to give days off, can cause the working conditions to be difficult. Smaller businesses tend to start at almost nothing and grow into a larger enterprise. If one seems to be stuck at the small level for a period of time, the amount of opportunities may seem smaller. However, small businesses have a higher chance to affect change. For example, workers at a small business can get to know their customers more efficiently and relate closely to the community. Donna Fuscaldo wrote, in 2012, Most of the time at a large company, theres more opportunities to grow. After all, large companies typically have a structure in place to move up the career ladder. Large corporations may have strict rules; however, working for one may increase the chances of growing higher than one could ever pursue in a small business. For example, many people come across a career opportunity such as being able to go on a paid trip to meet with other employees in a similar field. Many employees working in a large corporation are offered to travel and are given the opportunity to meet amazing people. Both businesses share the same goal: to make money and satisfy the needs of their interest groups. Without small businesses, there would most likely not be large corporations.

Even though they do have their share of differences, they both require large amounts of work and dedication. A large corporation may be less successful than a small business and also vice versa. In conclusion, what business would most people rather work for? By working for a small business, the application process is much quicker; must follow fewer and less strict rules; will have a more subtle working condition; but will most likely have fewer growing opportunities By working for a large corporation, the application process will be much more difficult; will be required to follow stricter rules; the work environment may be stressful; but the career opportunities are much larger.
